And how much cheaper were they before CCP lost their deal with Sony?

Enough to not let CCP profit. I'm guessing that's part of the reason why they're not a thing anymore.
I, actually, wonder if they cost anything at all. |

This
Sony announced ages ago they weren't going to charge developers for this sort of thing anymore. It's why CCP went down the route of 1 month updates, it cost them nothing to do so.

...then why isn't CCP doing them? Please don't misunderstand, I really enjoy the hotfixes, but client-side updates are off limits and that is preventing you from giving the players some really interesting stuff. If client updates don't cost anything, why can't we have them?

They would till cost CCP in Dev hours / wages etc... I think DUST is ran by a bare bones skeleton crew right now. That's assuming most of the old DUST devs are working on Legion and have not been sacked or legged it.

We're lucky to have anyone working on Dust at all but I imagine they're making client side fixes here & there and after the change log is long enough they'll push it out.

If client updates don't cost anything, why can't we have them? Because of the amount of work a client side update will require compared to changes server side.
If they can get more done with the same amount of work, then it only make sense given their limited resources.
Not to mention the concern of possibly having to have ALL of us re download the entire client with a new patch. That would be burdensome for us (would literally take a couple days of downloading for me), so they are trying to limit the burden on our behalf too.

I feel you. I was a diehard booster buyer since launch day.
I don't know though... I hate how CCP pulled the rug out from under us at fanfest, but these hotfixes have rekindled my enjoyment of the game. I might buy 3 day active boosters for the weekends depending on how Delta looks.
If we have Echo by Christmas, and some news about Legion, I might use PSN money to buy passive boosters.
For anyone from CCP who is listening: aurum gear is a waste of money. Please stop putting it on sale. Put packs of boosters on sale or something.

Personally I'm glad that they are doing hotfixes now instead of new patches...
Once they released the update that added full racial parity to suits (unfortunately not vehicles but how about we discuss that later) and near-parity with implements of destruction, the game was so unbalanced and haphazard..
These hotfixes will allow us to take a breather, properly balance what we do have right now, and by the time we do eventually get a real patch we won't be heaping new crap to a cluttered patchy system and risk having too many "variables" at once when seeing how the new content interacts with everything SENTENCE RUN-ON FOR THE WIN

I'm looking for a number. I doubt CCP got a special deal with sony... and if anything it was only to protect CCP's rights to the game.
Sony's standard contract to developers is already pretty generous. They would charge nothing. They only get a small percentage of psn sales.

Hi Rattati. with all of the negative emotions running on the forums (I have them tooo!) I feel like it is important to take the time every now and then to show our appreciation. I'm really impressed with what you've managed to do with the hotfixes and love the effort you and your team take to keep this game alive. I hope that someday you get the reward and recognition you deserve. thank you.
as for client updates, is Dust 514's playerbase growing? If it is, and it's slowly becomes more profitable, do you think a client side update would also be possible?
Actually, and you don't have to respond to this, this is sort of wishful thinking (although I think it will come true):
I don't think we will ever see a client side update because PS4 is where the money is, but I'm 100% sure that even if Legion doesn't become a reality, that we will eventually see some form of Dust on the PS4.
Finally last thing (and if you respond, great!!!) Will we get more BPO's in the future besides Sever? You don't have to say yes, but I'll be happy with a "maybe."

Their run from the same engine. Stuff being made for legion COULD be made compatible for dust with a small programming team.
I'll be honest I don't understand either, it's beginning to feel like they would just showing this 'new game' which had no real new content, so that we wouldn't leave DUST in one giant mass exodus.

Stuff made for Dust breaks the frame rate... Something made for Legion is not worth the man hours to put into Dust... Just enjoy Dust while it lasts... Legion (if they do it properly and ignore all of us in the community) could be a great game... Dust however is as good as it will ever be. |

This has been hinted at and even the mention of a "recook" where we all have to redownload the client has come up. I would think that if that is the case they would want as much as possible in that new download meaning bug fixes, fixes to hit boxes, and anything they feel like adding such as new maps, vehicles, and client side menus.
A recook would probably also have to contain a good bit of new content as this would be the thing to inspire people to deal with the wait time of reinstalling along with drawing in people who have deleted the game and moved on.

Changing values in a database isn't the same as releasing a patch with code changes.
Me, without any extensive knowledge in coding (the most advanced thing I did was a calculator in python), could probably do every single change that was done in the hotfixes.
Most of the work is finding the right numbers. Followed by plugging them in one by one for every item that needs the changes. Followed by collecting performance data.

It would require optimizing the code to work well on the ps3. CCP is not good at this. Legion is coming out on the PC and CCP will be able to run hotfixes and or patches even client side whenever they wish. Its similar yet very different. |
