Why not both?
Sometimes, I just want to shoot lots of enemies and feel godlike. Instead of defending broken mechanics in Dust, I can just play some Destiny PvE and get my fix.
Sometimes, I want a challenge, and I want to have to think and plan my attacks. That is when I jump on Dust and pull out my MInja.
I don't see them as completely direct competitors. I think there is room for in my gaming time for both, and then some.

Yet 80-90% of matches are filled with solo players.
There was a time when there were at least 2 partial squads on each side of a battle. Now it's usually 1 squad and solo vs a bunch of solo.
It's a shame, because team play is where Dust shines.

I can see how Destiny is appalling to some players. But for hardcore PVPers like me, Destiny sucks balls.
For all the flaws Dust has it is at least still challenging and I still hate to die in Dust. All other fps games I have played they carry no risk, zero real loss and death means nothing.

Destiny is more like a modern version of borderlands crossed with halo.
It has PVE
.and lots of it
Free roam
story missions
Wave mode
And a decent selection of brutal mindless slaughter pvp.
Dust is a expansive tactical fps
It's pvp only
Every death costs
It's a good deal more serious of a game..serious games always cause rage..but dust is and has always been held back by all its issues. Probably ccp inexperience with fps' s showing there
Dust is a completely different type of fps. That being said dust devs are terrible the game has major issues and destiny is a nice breath of fresh air. But I'll bb and so will my laser rifle

Both games have its ups and downs that make it unique yet it will fall short on everyones opinions.
Destiny pulls its strengths from story missions, wave after wave of thralls or a pack of Knights make for an epic fight. the Music only helps to make that effect.
Dust offers an in depth PvP structure. the amount of things you can do to customize just one class is nearly infinite. Personally I also like how you know who you are facing, and know how they play and try to counter it (as hard as it may be, you all play well XD)
Destiny, however, has a PvP mode that I personally think is lacking, its just a simple run and gun game mode for twitch shooters (nothing wrong with that, just not my style)
But Dust has no PvE, something that Destiny did extremely well, its structured so that you can't just run and gun, some missions you need a strike team.
All in all, you cant compare the two games because they focused on two different parts of a shooter.

Honestly, playing Dust made me a better Destiny player because I thought about working with my team rather than lol throwing knife for you, scout rifle for you and a homing grenaee for you. Team players > lone wolves.
But yeah two different styles, I loved the beta of Destiny so I definitely will pick it up. Only reason I love Dust is because o my Minja and the friends I have on here that I squad with. Scout community is super tight knit and I love that about Dust.
Once I get my PS4 though, I'll probably stick with that ijstead of my PS3. I need something new and I already have 2 games in mind that I want for PS4, maybe a 3rd after I see how the crew is.

100% true blue. All I see on the forum is QQing or people trying to grow their e-peen. I play both DUST and DESTINY. I will still play DUST but it needs something new than just the constant SP grind. I have almost 43 million SP so this should tell you how long I was playing this game as well as spent the SP in what I wanted with some problems there of course.
Both games have ups and downs.
But if you want to know what my biggest turn off for this game is coming from this vet, my turn-off is due to people not knowing what they want or the fact that CCP would make your choices meaningless when they change a good amount of data to your style with no repercussions what-so-ever (counterpoint: in b4 people say respec and this would cause more FoTM which is true you cannot prevent that).
Despite the turn off I still play the game but I find myself liking DESTINY, I guess because I did not hit that repetitive state if the game yet (which is a good thing, hell Borderlands 2 managed to hide that with true and ultimate vault hunter modes).

Off topic: Beta round two for the crew was good, they improved on a lot of the fallbacks, would recommend picking it up when it comes out
back on topic: Dust is definitely more tactical than Destiny (may be because I lone wolf Destiny) and thats why I like it as a PvP game.

It is more challenging than most fps games and it is the only one with any kind of value associated with death.
Dust and EVE are the only two games I have played where dieing means something and assets are lost. Most other games there is no loss when you die so it means nothing and thus they are boring games to me.

Bigger isn't always better. The way the maps are setup if you had any more it would be a cluster ****. PVP in Destiny is a more intimate experience and requires a coordinated team. Even 1 person ******* around can spell disaster. Plus the PVP isn't even the best part of the game the PVE elements are by far the best part of the game. destiny has the same **** dude sad to say but the forums for destiny are just like ours but worse and only very fewforum topics are non QQ. in which case I like going to the flood topic because they are all halo gamers so I'm chill with them.
while we have 1-2 areas to QQ in they have 2-4

It appeals to different gamers.
I like small teams that have to work well together to beat another well-knit team.
Some people like huge battles, where they can feel their squad tip the scale (however small) in a conflict much larger than themselves.
I might see you in PS2 as well. I also enjoy large scale battles, mainly because me and my old BF3 crew were Heavy on the Vehicle side.
TEAM had some of the best tankers in BF3. Very rare was it to find Tankers who could take them on in 1v1 or 2v2.

Plenty left to do after beating the main story. (1) Explore, (2) Strikes, (3) Raids, (4) Crucible, (5) Loot collect gear from the various factions, (6) Create and max out characters for all three classes, ect. The big one is exploring IMO. How much did you actually explore? There are tons of hidden stuff lurking around to find and collect.

3. Only new pve end game content.
4. is like any other multiplayer pvp grind.
5. Wasted effort; chances are you will have most of the best gear available to your class just from enemy drops alone.
6. Single day activity each.
