Spent most of today playing Destiny, and it's by no means a 'Dust killer'. It's more like the Borderlands franchise, if anything. I'll probably be taking a break from Dust for a bit, but I'll be back. I enjoy both games, for different reasons.

Destiny will not be going free anytime soon. They have already sold a gazillion copies of the game. Hype or no hype, Activision and Bungie made their millions already and that is what their goal is.

yea defiance was 10x funner than that beta but that's not saying a lot. defiance has way more interesting weapons than just higher numbers. but no one's playing defiance right now either. if you wanna play with other players you have to buy destiny reguardless if you find it fun or not. all games are empty because everyone fell under destiny's spell and those who haven't are forced to consider buying it just to play with other players. the whole scheme is just disgusting.

Really any big game like COD could have done that already . There's really no incentive for them to do that since it is the biggest game this year so far. When the sales drop is when it will go f2p most likely.
This will boost player numbers and they will probably sell dlc and vanity items etc.
Theres different models, there is no set way of doing it and ultimately, it's all done to make money whatever they do.
Companies are not interested in simply making their money back, its all about profit.
