Destiny is the next hype, dust still offers unique stuff while destiny is a joke.
I have thought about getting it but iv seen the beta that in had my mate test for me (yeah, I think it looks that sht) and I was not impressed. I found it laughable, the whole thing.
No amount of content will change how fundamentally awful I find destiny.
My hometown beat Manchester united.

How is that any different from Dust 514 in it's current state? Replace loot with officer weapons is ISK, gear with PRO, and leveling with SP.
I'm not buying Destiny or anything, but Destiny is a threat to Dust 514. Maybe not to hardcore Dust devotees, but to the "general audience" gamer... oh yeah.

Yeah, but the "general audience" gamers are easy to fool and (admittedly I could be wrong here) not likely to be the people to keep the game afloat. We'll probably have a bit of a dip but I highly doubt a complete collapse just because another polished turd got released.

From what I've seen of the livestreams, the progression system is pretty shallow. With a fun story and casual friendly PvP, people will play through the episodes, cap out at level 20, and be done in under 50 hours. It'll be free-to-play by this time next year.

Money is money. It doesn't matter if that money came from the general audience or hardcore fans.
When a AAA title like Destiny hits the scene Dust 514 suffers for it. Every $60 USD spent on Destiny is less money that could have been spent on aurum.
Dust 514 has a few advantages though. Being F2P means it will always be available when people get bored of (Insert AAA title here). It also has a passive SP generation system; that will keep people returning to blow their unallocated SP for months and months down the road. Finally, it shares a universe with Eve Online; every new Eve subscriber is potentially a Dust 514 merc.
TL;DR - Dust 514 is the reliable, but homely, spouse that everyone keeps coming back to no matter how many times they shag that hot, young AAA title down the street. Here lately Dust 514 has been getting in shape (hotfix alpha and bravo) and updating their wardrobe (hotfix charlie), so that's good. Plus, Dust 514 has been talking about getting a whole bunch of plastic surgery done to look like Scarlet Johansson* (Legion)

i thought destiny was pretty good during the beta. got bored of it a few days in (beta felt like a really good demo). but i suppose it was better than the typical matches ive suffered through in dust. those price tags are a bit high these days though.
i havnt touched this game in a while ever since defiance became f2p though. they finally got around to fixing most of the lagg problems. im just not that pure pvp fan. i prefer pve. which if ever gets added to the ps3 version i will gladly play this game. but for now dust will probably be another game that i will only play under a specific set of conditions. and that would be if i get extremely bored of all my other games.
dust 514 shall be eternal.
pve for dust 514.

dust is unique because of the isk death penalty creates a culture of in game trolling. if i only get 1 kill per pub it is worth it if i felt the opponent was trolled into a stupid death he could have avoided. a death that made him angry.
i agree tho destiny is a threat. it has mass appeal, streamlined, refined and backed by AAA budget/marketing. dust is a niche game for a minority of trolls on multiple levels.
if a game is actually good tho they dont need an excess of flags, banners and ads plastered all over walmart and gamestop to sell it

To be fair I'm finding the pve to be awesome, the multiplayer is exactly what I thought it was going to be so I'm staying away from it. Dust is where I will get my awesome PvP, destiny is where I get my awesome pve. I hope in legion I can say it will be for both.

i kind of want to play it just for the character customization. I don't know what PvE in general is like though... is it like that mode in Halo where you keep getting swarmed by covenant? I think it's called swarm... or flood...
if PvE is like a mixture of PSHome and Dust 514 and WoW, then I'm so there!!!
