I spent the week forming and joining open squads in the squad finder. I strongly recommend it for any who are wanting to see another side of DUST. You will meet people who have never heard of the forum, who play and enjoy the game. Most have complaints, but the squads are often free of jaded vets who can only see the bad.
Yes you will lose more. But you will get a chance to help new players. Sometimes with gifts of ISK, sometimes with advice or a correction of a misunderstanding, or with tactics or fitting recommendations. There are many newer and mid level players out there and their are fun to play with. They are the blueberry's we all complain about when we are squaded with our mates. join them for a few and you will have fun (mostly) and get a break from your usual crowd. My usual crowd is Pyrex, so you can see why I did this for a week.
Think of it as a kind of working holiday. I enjoyed it. You might too.

I do this from time to time.
Sometimes it's frustrating because you can't trust your teammates to do anything right..
Sometimes it's awesome because your teammates aren't slaughtering the enemy team..

Soloing in Dust is like trying to play Super Mario Bros. on the NES without using the B button. Technically, you can do it, but the game is slower and more boring.

Every time I put my squad in finder, annoying people join that just make noises and are annoying. I've learned to just play FW, you eventually pick up a full squad of ransoms. Met someone with 1.2 Mil SP the other day.. Didn't have the heart to tell him I had more unallocated SP than his lifetime.
If you find an issue and I stumble upon your thread, I will do my darnedest to get the issue known.

Good point from the OP there - before I managed to get some friends to join DUST i was a random squader and there is no doubt i learned more in a game with randoms than in 10 games lone wolfing. nothing wrong with lone wolfing of course...

Completely agree, there's nothing I find more boring than playing with the same people over and over, all the vets seem to do is moan about this and that, I find it unbearable at times. If your in a squad with me then please save your moaning for somebody else, I don't want to hear it. |

Amen to that. The only thing I ever got from a squad that was different than just running solo was having to listen to rude sounds over a mic and waiting too long in between matches.
Even in a squad nobody ever rides in my dropship, nobody ever calls out tactics or sit reps, nobody ever really works together tightly enough to warrant squading. Nobody ever wants to move much beyond runny shooty or spawn and sit on an objective hoping to just fight the tide.
I.e. No one utilizes others services to complete the bigger picture.

The main real reason why i don't squad, apart from things like not being able to control when to go into a match and THAT CONSTANT BREATHING ON MICS, is because of how easy it is to get orbitals in a squad of 3 or more
I pretty much dislike the idea of orbitals is because it just gives the winning side an even bigger advantage and takes away from actually fighting people, the part i enjoy most

i just join a pub, join a squad at beginning of battle, then stay in it for a bit. i'll leave once they start taking 5 to 10 minutes between matches. i'll also leave once i hear a little kids voice. i'll definitely leave when they start complaining about proto stomping, how they can do it, but they "choose not to" <-- worse kind of nubs. |

I didn't say you can't have a positive K/D as a solo player. Dozens of assault-scouts, redline snipers, and LAV burst HMG sentinels have proven that time and time again.

You can join a squad and not proto stomp. In fact, I have formed squads with my corpmates with the intention of running full MIL/STD fittings. Squads are more fun because, even when running lawlfits, you are able to communicate with your fellow mercs better.
Perfect example. Last week I joined a squad with a Caldari scout and Minmatar logi. I was running a Caldari assault/RR fitting. We spent the entire dom match just harassing the objective. We let the blueberries do the capping and we just focus fired on any burst HMG sentinels we saw. When the opposition even thought about fielding vehicles we all switched to AV fittings and made it our singular purpose in life to wreck whatever vehicle was cruising around expecting easy infantry kills.
It was fun and there is no way on earth I could have coordinated like I did as a solo player.
And just FYI: the squad leader commission rewards aren't anything to laugh at. If your squad leader will take the 4 seconds required to mark attack/defense targets... oh lawdy the WPs...

Once upon a time... In a land far far away... A long long time ago...
I joined a squad (this was before the squad finder) which had a great leader that everyone followed. After I landed near him and let him in, he started throwing target objectives around the place, so I gave him a lift there and defended him as he hacked...
Pretty soon he started using the rally command on my dropship, we got the whole team to work together, jumping from one objective to the next...
If a tank/av or ads turned up, it was downed in no time, I defended them with the ads or gunner when I had the Grimsnes/Gorgon and scanned stuff, they defended me (switching to av at nearby supply depos, or just having someone on hand with it ready.)
It was the most fun I've ever had in Dust... I miss the days when I'd let people in and they wouldn't just sit there switching seats trying to steal it. (P.S if you do this now I fly into the redzone, you get a chance to leave close to the edge, if you don't take it you get launched deep into it at low altitude, good luck surviving that, I have isk to burn)
Point being, for every moron you wish you could team-kill... There are a few good people, though most lock their squads these days, probably to save getting overrun by trolls. |

Your good .
When I use to see and go up against you in a pub your name is always in the top 5 after the game .

To be honest I have always joined the odd public squad, however since being corpless / back to the NPC corp, I find public squads are ok for a few games.
To be honest though I like to turn on the game and get into a battle straight away so I do tend to play solo. Sometimes public squads are just so damn slow to do anything.....

Since the elections I've only solo'd. Don't know why you'd think its slow, 2500 - 3000 WP's almost every game doesn't seem slow.

Saw a YouTube video of a game that looked cool downloaded it and joined the corp. First couple weeks I was kicked from squads for underperforming, nobody bothered teaching me what to do to, and mocked in a pleasant British accent. Left that corp joined another and it wasn't much better since they liked mocking Americans.
Now I play solo 99% of the time only joining squads out of some kind of morbid curiosity.
But great unwashed? Vets are the ones q-syncing proto squads in pubs, abusing game mechanics, trolling "newbs" then posting about it on the forums, now that's filthy.
