The current screaming over heavies, demands for turn speed reduction, demands for the nerfing of HMGs etc. Have all been born of one thing. The demand for nerfs have resulted in sentinels only being good at two things: CQC and AV.
How did this come about? Lets begin in chromosome:
1. Heavies began with the ability to apply DPS at approximately 55-60m. With the dispersion the applied DPS was much lower than a rifle , but a heavy attacking another target who was distracted or wounded allowed for "vulture kills" decried as no-skill scrubbery that needs to be nerfed. As a result, we now have heavies who die when I stand still with a rail rifle at 42m. Because I put every single round of my STD rail rifle center mass and lost... 20% of my shields.
2. Enter the cries to limit heavies to cqc. The reasons ranged from ability to outshoot assault rifles at range (a flat lie) to the assertion that heavies "should never exist" and should thusly be relegated to being an SP trap for the stupid. Alternately people demanded World of Warcraft tank/DPS/Healer meta with high HP, low damage, slow heavies being a thing, even though against live opponents not programmed to focus on the tank to get slaughtered by the allies that pretty much means a death sentence instantly. We found this out when CCP flushed a third of the HMG DPS down the toilet with uprising 1.0. It is only recently (patchwise) that sentinels have ceased being a joke.
3. The locus grenade and mass driver. These were the go-to weapons for forcing heavies out of their hidey holes and chokepoints and into the open. But because area weapons were decried as "unconscionable scrubbery" that did not deserve to get kills at all. So it was done. As a result, fluxes are a worry (for shield sentinels) but core locus grenades kinda tickle a little when they used to drop me from full shields to half armor. You can now unload a mass drivers full magazine into a sentinel and knock them to 50% armor. But you can absolutely farm amarr/gallente assaults.
4. Then we come to the turn speed. Sentinels were supposed to be CQC kings, that was why yhe assaults wanted them nerfed so they wouldnt have range. So... now sentinels shred ass in close while being more or less helpless. Even the long-range assault HMG has a hard time outshooting an SMG at 40m when they are supposed to reach out to 60. But tge turn speed meant that you could run in close and LOL in a circle shooting a helpless heavy in the side of the head while he fliled about helplessly. There is a reason for that being removed.
Now, as a result of the cries for nerfs ( from assaults) heavies are now the slow, high HP CQC beasts we know today. You cannot get close (unless you are a scout) or you die. You can't soften them up with grenades cause... you know... they are scrub weapons and should be worthless. Mass drivers? Nope. Nowadays MD runners just fall over dead vs. Heavies.
Whats left?
Oh yeah. Scouts, who enjoy no real hard counter and can kill fatties easily in CQC. As a side effect they use assaults to wipe their butts. Oh and RE spammed like grenades.
The rest of the community demanded that sentinels be pigeonholed right where they are, then proceeded to demand the nerfing of the best weapons to counter them.
Ever wonder why I dont call for scout nerfs?
Because you all asked for this state of affairs. DEMANDED it in fact. Scouts hard counter sentinels, and I will suck it up.
The rest of you deserve to suffer tge scout plague.. You asked for this state of affairs. Be careful what you wish for. You are welcome. |

I recall mass drivers and grenades that could one shot most suits and obliterate heavies. Why they got nerfed
I recall heavy machine guns with extremely low dispersion that could kill from across the map. Why they got nerfed
I recall scouts who couldn't take two steps without being killed. Why they got buffed
I remember a spool time to the hmg and much higher dps. Honestly I don't know what the hell happened, the spool time was like the best balancing feature it had.
I also remember heavies being very good at what they did but the cost of the suit and hmg was extremely expensive, but worth it for an extremely effective suit. This was a good balancing factor for heavies
Edit: in the past hmgs did compete with AR and they still do kind of, not at the max range but within 0-30 meters an AR has no chance. But I feel that many of the old nerfs and then some of those who still carry over are from balnket fixes that never fixed problems only symptoms.

Sgt. Kirk has made a thread advocating nerfing heavy turn speed so we can have the glory days of lolling around heavies shooting them in the side of the head with impunity again.
Apparently being good at cqc AND AV is too much. Even though sentinels are crap literally everywhere else. |

Mostly that he has a lot of bad ideas and feels the need to talk to everyone about them, mistakenly thinking they're good ideas.

snip In Chromosome someone with Heavy Weapon Sharpshooter (3x skill) at 5 could shoot at obscene ranges. Someone with Light Weapon Sharpshooter (2x skill) could engage targets with Assault Rifles at rediculous ranges.
When Uprising deployed everything was nerfed, the Assault Rifles the least. HMGs were lolweapons and Mass Drivers became extinct until a Dev saw the play statistics and fixed them. A good chunk of 2013 was AR 514, a good chunk of our history was AR 514. We only started to beak from it with more factional rifles. HMGs only got on par with the big four rifles until Uprising 1.8
The Devs said Point Defense, either stick with that or redesign the entire class and try not to screw it up for two years, again.

Even when a heavy is running a RR i find them a joke at range. Giant head hit box + **** strafe speed = super easy headshots. If you cant take a heavy head to head at 40 or more you are doing something wrong.
Besides -- the heavy spam is entirely due to the Burst HMG being sick alpha strike damage. When that thing gets nerfed youll see heavies far less often. |

Right,as for rotation speed... It should be reduced whilst firing an HMG. This is a heavy weapon with thousands of bullets,of course to should require bracing before firing.
While not firing? No
Lolscouts are going to spam REs as long as they can refill them on their own hives.

Not having the ability to armor stack with low consequences? Not being able to jiggle their way to victory because how the game poorly manages hit registration?
Who knows what wacky things you people defend for the sake of your own gain but I do find it humorous.
