It's an absolutely ridiculous thing to have in an FPS. I think the solution is to make LAVs vulnerable to small arms fire. Half a clip of AR should be sufficient put an LAV into the 'on fire, jump out now or die' stage. psst! there is a counter. it is called a militia HAV! You shouldn't have to do a specific counter to such scrubiness, that then makes it a legitimate tactic. Running the enemy over in a jeep is not and never has been a widespread battlefield tactic, for the simple reason that you'd instantly get chewed up by small arms fire. It's only Dust's crazy logic that means a super fast, super light, super cheap vehicle can circle squads of infantry indefinitely without serious risk of injury unless they happened to bring full blown anti-tank weapons. A MLT HAV isn't The counter to your problem it's just the best one I could think of off the top of my head. Ground vehicles have their place in Dust, it's open, flat, space. so if you can't stand the heat get back in the city. You seem awful defensive. Get out of your scrubmobile, get gun game, git gud |

Just pack some AV grenades. I know it's a pain but some good AV nades will take out the LAV, and usually the heavy inside it panics or dies when his precious car blows up.
I have also once sneakily hacked a heavies LAV then subsequently ran him over. Not really a viable tactic but it was pretty funny.

All I have to say is - WTF did CCP do to the burst HMG? One of those LAV heavies drove up to me yesterday, jumped out with his burst HMG an killed my 600hp suit (granted 600 hp is not huge) in like a nano second.
Brrrrrrmp DEAD.
What the actual feck? I saw a burst hmg player using a modded controller the other day, Postilloneonin i think was his name. destroyed my proto gall sentinel in 1 sec or one trigger pull for him, while being repped by 2 proto logis. was probably manual fireing but you can get 2-3 bursts off in a second and each one is like 1350 damage (before damage profiles) so yeah it can eat people alive also did i mention FOTm is like amarr sent+burst hmg as amarr sent can get like 800-900 shields and 1300 near 1400 armor.. thats Ducking Futs So with 1 high slot, we go from 450 shield to 800? K. I see you do math.....

This thread is about the abuse of a totally broken game mechanic and a OP weapon system. If the goal is to vent then all the more power to you. I do it a lot when dealing with Dust 514.
Rest assured something is going to be done about direct fire high ROF weapons with big-damage-short-timed-interval-damage in Hotfix Delta. The Burst HMG, Scrambler Rifle, and even Assault SMGs are all on the chopping block.
If Burst HMGs pulling Murder Taxi 1.0 keep ruining the game just take a two or three week vacation from the game.

I used to carry Packed AV Grenades 24/7 on my Caldari Assault back in the day. LAVs didn't dare challenge me...
Now I carry 2, and LAVs don't die. :(
Just an idea, but maybe all small arms should take the path of the Nova Knives and have 1/2 of their usual efficiency on vehicles. Of course, the vehicle shield recharge should never pause until they're depleted to prevent HMGs or a team of ARs killing tanks. (AV would still make it pause)

Shotgun scouts can appear from cloak and one-shot a 600 ehp suit with a shotgun. I don't see how this tactic is any different.
At least heavies are in a loud car that can be seen from miles away and can be easily countered/dealt with. Heck, you can run away from a heavy in a LAV easier than you can a shotgun scout.
You can even hide from a heavy in a LAV. shotgun scouts can passively scan you no matter where you hide.
I would rather have some sort of animation for getting in/out of the vehicle but that's not happening. Even a 2-3 second delay that you have to hold the button would work to prevent pilots from jumping out of their vehicles just before they are destroyed.
That said, I don't encourage or defend this tactic, I'm just saying that I have never had an issue countering this tactic no matter what suit I'm in...and don't understand why so many people seem to have such a hard time dealing with it. I have more issues with rail rifles, thales, proto shotguns, large railguns, remotes, and being run over than I do with the rare HMG/LAV combo.

A close-quarters melee weapon, the nova knife is as deadly a weapon as anything on the battlefield. Its name derives from the heated plasma edge of the blade GÇô formed by a thermic igniter and linear gravity condenser GÇô that, in skilled hands, can be used to carve through even the thickest dropsuit armor.
It's so much more than just a knife. Think gravity hammer, or monomolecular wire...don't just assume it's a kitchen knife.
