While I can see @Ghosts Chance's viewpoint and don't disagree with it, let me just insert a slight contrarian position.
If you have AUR sitting around and aren't using it AND you do not have a BPO then, depending entirely on the pricing, buying a BPO might well be a good thing.
However: You have to know what it is exactly and they have never been honest about such in the past. I have a Raven and a Sever BPOs that they ganked out from under me. I was forced to skill into different trees just to enable using them as they are Racially limited (check the model numbers for C/G/M).
It is important to know that the original BPO (of which these will be a mere reflection) required no SP at all. Now they do.
However, I would expect them to be in the horrifically high price range we saw after Chromosome (or during, I don't recall) which was in the 4K AUR range. Doing any kind of math at all means that much over 1K AUR these are not worth it. A comparable fit will cost a few K ISK so your AUR might be better spent on ... well, a week of passive SP, or some turrets, or your favorite gun, or that PRO gun that you aren't willing to pee away the SP to actually get.
One can always use a Free Fit (the Starter Fits) to gather enough ISK to use a same level suit that these BPOs will provide. If you make even a little profit a comparable fit is easy to fit as these are STD suits.
And back to @Ghosts Chance: I would suspect that you are right. The last thing CCP has ever considered is their customers (yes, that is what we are) as we have been ganked at every turn since Uprising 1.0 on 14/5/2013.
I do not expect them to change their behavior, nor could they being CCP as ganking is what they do.
And so it goes.

@Michael Arck, and normally I would agree with you on spending anything on a game include in game micro-transactions. Now called IAP (In App Purchases) for our mobile gamers.
However, I got into the Alpha/Beta time period and the game was horrible. But it showed great promise and it slowly got better. The Devs were engaged and chatted IRC as I understood it (I never do IRC).
The Uprising 1.0 came out. It was horrific. The game had gone backwards. The graphics were the only thing better and they weren't enough better than the older version to warrant losing draw distance. To me. I bought Merc packs and don't have a problem with the value for dollar. I didn't buy them for personal gain as much as to show/give support to the Devs for this game and its fantastic future.
Before Dust 514 I never played MMOs, never played FPSs online. But I found some friends and we had a good time. With each release and now HFFH (Hot Fixes From Hell) I lose more every single time. None have ever come back more than an evening or two to see what the changes are. They play, they discover and then they are gone again. Because Dust 514 is not a good game.
To make matters worse, @Ghosts Chance makes the statement that these Devs (specifically CCP) doesn't play fair, honestly or upfront about anything in the game. I doubt anyone can honestly claim he is wrong.
Now, I play other games that have the same basic setup as Dust 514 but they are successful. Why? Because those Devs understood FPS game play before they made the game. They did not force the EVE lore onto a game (and fail). They offer goods/micro-transactions at reasonable rates. One game charges for horns in vehicles. Horns! And they are expensive. Yet I never fail to hear them in a large battle. Why? Because even at that price the players enjoy supporting those Devs.
Which is why I won't spend anymore cash on Dust 514. I have AUR from my earlier purchases. It sits there. Someday I will burn the rest of it down and I will probably leave directly afterwards. CCP, CCP/Shanghai (aka our Devs) have not told us the truth (moved the dev team for Pete's sake) and expect us to what? Stay around and be entertained when most of the changes Nerf a suit/weapon/equipment/function/vehicle with absolutely no possibility of adjusting the SP to compensate.
I was Minmatar Logi. They removed all my bonuses and said ... too bad, sucka. Well, say good bye to the cash in my wallet, 'cause it is staying there. This is frustration and disappointment talking. Not entertainment.
Chromosome was not perfect. But it was fun, playable and showed an incredible potential. Nothing like that has happened since, not even Project Legion. In fact, quite the opposite.
And so it goes.

Michael Arck wrote:Okay, not being rude here. But you've already spent money to gain items in a video game. That really is enough reason to say no to it in the first place. But if you choose to purchase in game items, then you've it should be done with the understanding that you are paying for in game items for entertainment. The money you spend on microtransactions should be done with the understanding that the money you just spent is expendable.
I dont pay a ticket price to see a movie so that the theater will stay in business. I spent it for entertainment.
I feel that mindset should be used here. Every AUR purchase or pack Ive bought, I have done so for my want of entertainment or acceleration of skills gained. I didnt do it because I expected a promise that game be here tomorrow.
I know the risks just as much as I know purchasing a PS4 ackowledges that the console doesnt belong to me but to Sony. Welcome to America. You have the right to have those opinions.
@Ghosts Chance has the right to his. Leave him to his, he can leave you to yours.
And so it goes.
