I see this in a lot of maps. One sides redline has almost the perfect setup. The other team gets.... well shafted hard. The side with the good setup has three turrets and a hill shaped perfectly for ducking behind and using as cover. wide enough to catch your foe off guard, and tall enough he can't counter snipe you even from the MCC.
So why is this? Very few if any maps are balanced at all to encourage most new snipers to do anything but redline snipe. Because you either have terrible views over the battlefield. Terrible blind spots or just well ya terrible in general. A lot of buildings are built in such a way as to block your view while standing on them so that kills those spots. Most pipes are death sentence because of the wide angle people would have on you. so I can see why some people redline snipe. Much of the game seems to actually like putting them in the wide open or just well not giving them spots they can contribute to the battle. Hell some objectives are completely blocked by everything to the point no sniper can even point at the objective without getting spotted.
Just an opinion. anyone agree or am I just letting out nonsense? Just what I see from my end. The receiving end of said bullets. I also agree heavy snipers are a bit of an issue in the redline. Tanking a full on headshot and walking it off. |

Well if everyone didn't ***** in the beginning about sniping spots snipers wouldn't be in the red line so much.
Everyone cried foul so CCP placed **** in the way of everything. No there are no good sniping spots on most maps.
Now I on the other hand have found only 3 maps where sniping is almost mute.
I just wish sniper rifles had a zoom. Something like 75% of a thale's current zoom at proto level. 50% at Advance. |

I think honestly we need to address the **** locations. Then the Redline sniping might die down some. Then the NERF NERF OP OP OP parrots will stop. |

Manus Peak Domination Map.
You either get steamrolled to oblivion, or you have an even match for 3 minutes before getting steamrolled into oblivion.
Also, both sides have ****** sniper locations. |

I remember before the edits you could actually find places outside of the redline to snipe from and not get beelined to death. Now, especially with cloaked scouts, you might as well redline snipe if you are going to stay up and help the team. People don't think you are helping, but really you are if you are actually not dying and moving around for shots (even if in the redline).
The only useless sniper is a dead sniper. Just like assaults that keep running around and dying over and over. Is that any more useful? No.

You don't have to use the sniper at it's max range, there's pleanty of maps where you can be out of the redzone and still see important areas of the map, while being out of range of anything other than a large railgun. Maybe instead of looking for "sniping spots" to camp the match away, you should learn to pop a few heads and then move (more than 2cm.) You can then shoot at the people who are running at your last location to gank you... Has anyone tried fitting a sniper with a cloak? |

Sniping is for one-armed players, people with other **** going on at the moment, smoking a bowl, or noobs that don't understand how the maps work.

Or, better yet, if you're going to run around and shoot people from afar you can use teh Rail Rifle or the Laser Rifle, because all those "good spots" you mention are within the range of RR & LR
I blame her for nova knife kills on tanks

On general level, I both agree and disagree with you.
Agree that as we have to play the same old maps again and it's about 1/6 chance of getting any particular map, it's annoying that by default some side has distinct advantage over and over and all the players even moderately experienced know how to abuse it.
Disagree on basis of the fact that asymmetrical warfare is GREAT. The positions don't have to mirror each other, not physically nor functionally. If we would have 1000+ maps (procedurally generated, ofc...) then the abuse would be minimal as peeps would have to have wits to utilise terrain, instead of just apeing the sniper dude from last game.
People would enjoy Dust a lot more if they accepted the fact that EVERYTHING is subject to change

This is probably the biggest problem snipers have. the lack of positions outside the red line.
it also means that as soon as you become worth dealing with the enemy already know where to look before they even start to look for you.
the reason that the thales sentinel in the red line is a problem is because of all the sniper nerfs.
used to be that a sniper could shoot across the map and that headshots killed. simple.
ok people thought they were op. but you didn't have people bringing their officer sniper rifles into pub matches and being safe due to high ehp and red line combo vs low damage weapons with low range.
sniper with higher damage weapon, high defensible position, high ehp, higher fire rate vs sniper with a weapon that can not ohk with a headshot, low exposed position, lower rate of fire (assuming charge), lower ehp (you'd need calmando with mods to do enough damage), worse scope zoom.
it's all one sided. even if the thales guy doesn't notice you setting up you will need to alert them to your attempts.
THIS is why you see so many thales, and why they are such a problem in a heavy suit. Well done to all of the sniper qqers you created a monster, now you good folk can go and deal with it... because i'm not going to. |
