Actually, the redline is there for a reason. It's supposed to be used as a quiet reprieve area where you take the time to summon in vehicles safely and decide what suit you want to use before heading in (etc.). But because of some ungodly reason, it's a place used by snipers to hide behind hills to where you can be hit, but when you go to counter-snipe, you hit a hill instead of their head.
Removing the redline solves nothing (considering it's all balanced around pubs). It only encourages protostompers to redline stomp even worse than already happens.
Imagine being a match with 6-7 blueberries on your team against a full 6 man squad of let's say Nyain San. They push you back to what would normally be the redline, but because it's removed, that no longer applies. They are now allowed to camp under your mcc so you never land without being shotgunned to death in the face. You are never allowed to spawn at your normal spawn either because you'll get HMG'd to death in the face. What do you suppose we do then? Make it to where you randomly spawn on the map like ambush? Yeah look how well it does you already. Spawn camped because it refuses to spawn you anywhere else, and when it finally does, it's too late because you just lost 30-40 clones.
I'm all for changing the redline, but not removing it completely. The single best way to make the redline how it should be would be to make it to where you can't shoot in or out of the redline's line for each side. This gives people that are redlined a chance to summon in tanks/dropships to fight back and get inside the area while preventing people sitting 200-500 meters from the objective inside the redline from sniping you with that 1k EHP Thales heavy. However, should someone decide the cross the redline into enemy territory, they're allowed to shoot you with infantry/tank.
It won't stop people from sitting just outside the redline on some maps, but it makes them more easily accessible than it used to be. Redline tanks/installations are also nerfed, so all turrets would have to be placed strategically on the field.
But considering that would require an actual change and not just a hotfix, it will never happen.
But in the meantime, any changes to nerf the sniper's range/damage are just going to make the sniper a dead role. For those of us that get the chance and do snipe outside the redline, some of those great perches are still 200+ meters from the objective.
Tl;dr- Change, but don't remove, the redline, and don't nerf snipers range.
