Lately, I have been using the submachine gun. I don't have the proficiency skill up on it. How is it with proficiency 5/4? |

Frakin' awesome. Do it. SMG is a great sidearm; better than the Magsec in many ways, although I like it, too.
EDIT: make sure you take Sharpshooter to 5 first, though, that's more important. Prof is useless without it, same as the CR.

Nice.
I can't even begin to tell you how much more effective it is with Sharpshooter leveled up.
It's just ridiculous.
Skill that Sharpshooter, the extra damage from Proficiency isn't worth **** if you're not able to apply the damage in the first place.

You don't need prof with the SMG either. For the longest time I just ran the SMG with op 1 and it came through just fine when I needed it.

When your a dedicated heavy fighting another heavy who has a natural resistance to projectile weapons, it becomes very important to have max proficiency. The correct statement is that proficiency isn't needed to kill light and medium suits.
To the OP, I'm currently sitting at prof 4 with the smg and it rips armor. You basically don't need to have a light weapon, it become a luxury to have one.

Smg proficiency is amazing. I went from 0 to 4 prof in one go after the last respec. Made a big difference.
Smgs might be nerfed in delta, just warning. I'm sure they will still be good though. |

It always was.
Dual Calas with prof 5 FTW.
Only thing that used to top it was a marksman with a Scrambler. Thankfully being pro was OP and CCP fixed that. Now it is spray and pray all day.
Real AV doesn't stop until all the tanks are dead.
