Reduce the Rail Rifle effective range to that of AR's. The Thompson Gun, which it's losely based on, I think, had an effective range of 50 yards or so.
In Dust world, the Rail rifles have a longer range than the AR's (which are losely based on the M-16/AK47, the M-16 can be used as a sniper rifle, 500 yards or more.) I'm not saying make AR's effective to that range. I'm saying that the two should be reversed.
AR's should have a longer range than RR's.
And scrambler pistols can be effective from farther away than some AR's, this seems really weird.
-
If nothing else
Increase the Breach Rifles and the Tactical Rifles effective range. At least as long as the RR. It's hard enough to kill a Commando, but then when it has a Rail Rifle and a Shotgun and someone who knows how to use them and it's silly.
-
Right now the only way for a Medium to kill a Heavy seems to be from a long range and keep moving and sniping, or surprise it up close and go for a head shot while dancing around it, while somehow not getting hit yourself.
-
The Tactical Rifle has a really good site, but doesn't seem to have a range that is greater than other AR's. Is that true? and why isn't it longer? If you make the Tactical Rifle a mini sniper rifle it will be used more.
-
Fix the MD's site so it can be more effectively used, include numbers on the notches for 25-50 meters. Right Now, there are a handful of people who can use it really well and I mean that, a handful, 10 or 12. The rest of the population doesn't even try. Trying to figure out range on the fly, it's not easy.
Buff some of the less used AR's and nerf the RR. |

Unfortunately your logic falls apart when confronted with one thing. The Rail Rifle's DPS is outclassed by the assault rifle. it's meant to be a beast at range, in fact caldari weapons are ideally suited to not engaging in close. Shields and brawls do not mix well.
The Rail Rifle is meant to be the longest-ranged of the four standard rifles. This is working as intended. Different weapons and fits are intended to spur adaptation and tactical/fitting flexibility in DUST fights. It is not a game that rewards "One True Build" syndrome.
It's rather akin to the flact that almost none of the weapons in the game behave in similar fashion to other racial counterparts at the baseline level. A Combat Rifle doesn't behave like an Assault Rifle. An Assault Combat Rifle Can behave similarly but not identically.
This is a feature, not a bug.
And no, the Rail rifle was not based off the Tommy Gun. None of the weapons were. |

Wow. Breakin Stuff gives you a very clear, well reasoned explanation of why you're wrong and all you can say is that he is trolling? Just because he is a member of goonfeet doesn't mean that he is constantly spewing **** just to get you're ire up. This was actually a great post.
You probably haven't been here long TIMMY (at least not based upon your posts) so I'll make it even simpler for you. Damage and range should have an inverse relationship (like so). The farther you can shoot the less damage you can do. This will encourage players to use different play styles depending on the weapons/suits they use and give each weapon its zone of dominance.
Right now the RR has a long range but low DPS (as it should) and is honestly in the most balanced state it has ever been. Your proposal to increase the AR's range or decrease the RR's range would only mean that either the RR would be useless or that the AR would become stupidly OP.
Maybe, instead of calling "troll" when someone disagrees with you, you should actually read what others have to say or it will be you who's posts are completely ignored going forward.

The TAC did far more DPS than the current RR that is why it was nerved. Add to that the fact that with a modded controller you had a 100% accurate full auto massive DPS weapon and you had one massively OP beast. Modded controllers don't work on the RR, it kicks like a mule in heat, and its DPS is the lowest of the current rifles. I don't think it is as bad as you may think.

What do you mean think....this is a long standing established game mechanic., you would literally be asking CCP to up end 10 years of established racial combat styles so a weapon from a Sci Fi FPS represents 2 modern fire arms.......

Right. Beings jerks is allowed and quite frankly encouraged on this forum.
I am not one of the 10-12 that can actually use the MD, I just watch. About once a week someone who knows how to use it kills a bunch of folks. Most of the time I see it, the MD is used in a tunnel environment and the person is just shooting in the direction of the enemy, very little care if they are actually hitting anything.
The MD reticle has three or four different levels/notches. put a little number next to each little notch to give a general distance, 25 meters, 50 meters, 80 meters etc. This would encourage it's use. Some idea of how far you are going to be shooting once you have picked the thing you are going to shoot at.
As for the other weapons. There needs to be a real counter measure to Rail Rifle. RR are OP and have been since they were introduced.
In this game you are really limited. You start shooting at someone, they duck behind something. You wait a second or two for them to show up again and they shoot you once with a Rail Rifle and you're dead. Almost any other weapon and you can live and at least try to shoot back.
-
Right now, you could use a Laser Rifle, a Scrambler Rifle, Plasma Cannon or Mass Driver. The other weapons do not have the same range, and frankly the MD and the LP can not work, because they do not do enough damage fast enough. If you put the RR into the hands of a Heavy it starts to dominate. Once you start shooting the Heavy you have to kill it before it finds you, or you are dead, the RR from say 25 meters and farther is that potent.
The only effective way to kill them is to get more than two people firing at them. Not always possible. The other option is of course try to get a different angle and hit them as hard as possible before they can target you and hope you do enough damage to kill them.
The last option is to actually change the distance some of the other weapons fire. Quite frankly this seems to be the one that makes the most sense. As it would effect the most number of game players and at least a little, balance things out, not completely, but some. |

Wow TIMMY, just wow. You really can't handle people disagreeing with you can you? Even when their arguments come from established lore and well known game mechanics.
I could turn this into a long post but all I would be doing is repeating what others have said. I suggest you listen to them and change your tactics, instead of complaining the way you want to play doesn't work (not said, but heavily implied by your posts).
As for the MD, it is a support/suppression weapon. If you want to be as good as those "10-12" people, practice. Each notch on the reticule represents 10m, each ring on your HUD represents 10m. You're welcome. |

TIMMY DAVIS wrote: Once you start shooting the Heavy you have to kill it before it finds you, or you are dead
So your real issue is heavies with RR eh? Well lets work on that shall we.
Here are some tactical options for you that work extremely consistently for me depending on what suit/weapon I'm using.
1) Focus fire. This is something you need to do with heavies in general. Just because it takes a couple of you shooting him to take him down quickly doesn't mean he's OP. Sentinals massive HP advantage is balanced by their awful speed so it is fine if it takes a couple of people to down one.
2) If you don't think you can take them don't engage. In any suit other than a heavy you are generally manueverable enough to avoid heavies and even with the RR's range they can't chase you around corners very well.
3) Scouts with shotguns and REs are heavies worst nightmare.
4) Circle strafe around them. Don't try anything fancy like figure-8's as most players can't follow a moving target to save their clone. Just use good old circle strafing and you'll will 99% of the time.
5) Get into your weapons optimal while flanking and unload on the heavy's head. The RR really is only a killer at longer ranges (50m plus) so engaging inside of this range will give you a massive advantage.
6) Get an in/out of cover rhythem going timed to the RR's charge up time. If you do this right you will apply damage in very short bursts when the RR user will be useless. If he starts just blasting away regardless of when you are in cover or not he will run out of ammo leaving you with yet another opening.
7) The ACR and CR are you anti-sentinal friends thanks to their balanced damage vs armor and shields.
8) Always flux Cal and Min Sentinals before going in for the kill. They have very little armor and are easy to take down once their shields are gone.
9) Grabe a militia heavy frame with a militia RR and join them (fight fire with fire if you will)
10) Crush them with a vehicle. They won't have any AV capability so this is relatively low risk.
Look at that! 10, count them 10, ways to kill heavies with RR. If there are so many ways to easily kill this particular setup it can' really be that OP now can it. Give it a try.

RR are the long range rifles..
AR are the face melt rifles(aka short range)
combat rifles are moderately good across short to upper-end-medium range..
laser rifle is sick at long range too
ScR is decent for most mid ranges
shotgun is face(back) melting too
put SP into the weaponry for the right job/role you are filling.. that is all.
PS. CR is good allrounder for close mid because of 10% armor damage(iirc) due to OP armor buffer so as to melt the armor easier. but it supposedly sucks vs shields -5% but since shield tanking blows and shield buffer blows harder that -5% does nothing in perspective.
