First and foremost, Welcome to DUST!
That being said, couple tips:
1. You just started. Don't set your sights or SP on aquiring proto gear quite yet, you've a long ways to go still. In the skills section of your main mercenary quarters is a section titled "Dropsuit Upgrades". A number of the skills there will grant you passive increases to your base stats. MAX these first! It'll increase the stats of every fit you use from your starters to your future protos and what makes the basic stuff giable against protos and the proto stuff the beast it can be. Proto investment without Core Skill investment will get you spanked in proto by basic ez.
2. The MCU you're talking about is a CRU, the hackable spawn points on a map. Before you spawn on one, especially as the battle ebbs and flows into the area it is located, zoom in as close as you can with the overhead spawn cam and look to see if people are fighting around it. You may not see the people but you can usually see the tracers from their weapons. Watch the killfeed (upper right corner) also, if you see a CRU with a lot of fighting around it and the killfeed is consistently showing your teammates being killed it's probably being camped. Find somewhere else to spawn.
3. Smart Deploy, unfortunately, isn't. It will always spawn you closest to wherever most everyone else is at. Whether they're being slaughtered there or not. Uplinks can make it worse, yes, since will just camp the link and the Smart Deploy will spawn everyone else there too, but uplinks are the only way to break out from a Smart Deploy camp because they give people somewhere else to spawn. The trick is the uplinks need to be placed smart and too often that doesn't happen. Get your own links and maybe you'll be the one to save your team. Or get them all killed.
4. At the top of this feedback section is a Dev Sticky Thread about New Player advice, it's tips and advice from experienced players for new players. Go there, read a ton of good advice, last I looked it's like 5 pages long.
5. DUST University and Immortal Guides are both corps focused on helping new players learn the basics of DUST. Check them out.
Its not easy to be successful here in DUST, but if it was easy everybody would be doing it.
