I found it enjoyable, defo best on next gen, i played the beta on the ps4 and found nothing to complain about graphically, smooh fps, high resolution the game looked good , friends who tried it on the ps3 reported bad textures and some pop in however. Combat was for the most part enjoyable, hunter is by far my favourite class, emptying your clip and finishing off the last enemy will never get old, then here's the time the throwing knife crit'd for 5000 damage against a tank in one of the strike missions....
In any case for PvE missions I highly recommend playing the hardest difficulty settings, it makes things so much more fun and interesting, for example the moon mission on normal was a breeze, barely had to pay attention, on hard however you get 50 enemies (some of them specials) charging you from two directions with very little warning or space to manoeuvre. The bosses we've seen so far tend to be based on sheer EHP mountains and damaging atttacks then any kind of special mechanics, makes the fights grindlike, not very fun, hopefully that'll be remedied in the full game/later bosses.
PvP is okay, small player counts and mainly focused on CQC from the maps i played, small scale, fast paced gameplay, tends to reward AoE powers and supers like the titan's and warlocks over the hunter precision/skillshot one. Said powers cause grouping up to be lethal meaning the majority of fights you get into will be 1v1's and 2v2's. That said all of this is based on the one gamemode we've had available to play and can't be relied upon as proper overview of PvP, same for PvE I suppose as well .
Can't really comment on the story or universe, too little to go plus most of the lore entries were redacted during the beta .
Gear seems to work as a mix of borderlands/traditional MMO paths, you get loot drops off enemies and chests in the world plus you can buy loot and engrams from vendors (engrams are like a role of the dice, you can get anything of that gear type, the rarity of the engram and the rank you have with the guy who decodes them affect how good the gear you get from them are I believe). Engrams also drop from enemies and chests. The higher the rarity of the gear the larger chance that the gear will have some unique aspect you can unlock and upgrade, be it an chest piece that lets you carry more ammo for a certain weapon, or a rifle that does more damage the less ammo is in the clip.
These item abilities don't go as insane as borderlands does due to the fact that this gear can be used in PvP as well, on the matter of PvP It's mainly balanced with abilities and stats mostly balanced in the crucible but when events like the iron banner happen all gear and stats become unlevelled, meaning a level 8 has the health and attack stats of a lv8, while a lv5 has the health and attack of a lv5 with the predictable consequences (I speak from experience here ).
Overall I found the game to be very enjoyable and will be spending a lot of time on it come launch.

However, I am not asking the destiny players how they enjoyed the game, I am asking the community of players I have been playing with for 2 years to chime in on how they found the experience. Thank you for your time. Omega, I would ask folks that you have been in corps and squads with their opinion. Do not trust the opinions of the forum whack jobs as you do not know them from Adam. Case in point, I liked the game, but you do not know me, so I could be a lunatic for all you know. Why on earth would you believe my opinion and why should you? The other fringe, is folks that hated it. They could be complete lunatics or such die hard ccp fanboys that their opinion was already made before they even downloaded it. Trust the folks you actually know, and most importantly, then decide for yourself as your opinion is really the only one that matters when it comes to whether a game is good or not. Case in point, I liked Homefront, lots of my friends did not. I did not let that keep me from playing it. Other friends of mine like Cod. I refuse to play Cod. good point here, i tried to give an somewhat impartial summary of the game, but my views are coloured by my experience and hence biased by it, along with the fact that i like bungie and halo and thus am biased by that too. and as soul says, you do not know me, you do not know if you can trust me, so take my opinion with a pinch of salt, compare it against the views most opposite to mine that you can, try and find the common points, they're most likely to be true, if things disagree wildly they're the things most based on opinion, but again watch out for that bias. take everything you've heard, from friends and from strangers like myself, compare it what you know and like and decide your opinion on it from there after all, no one likes wasting money on a game they don't like .
*end unnecessary addition here*

The PVE is solid and there is plenty to explore but it strikes a middle ground where it is not quite one thing or another e.g. if you are expecting to be one of dozens of players going on the same raid i.e. a more traditional MMO then Destiny will not live up to expectations.
The types of items you can equip or modify is really unknown due to the heavy restrictions placed on the beta.
Strangely one thing I do not like is the Destiny Forums not because of the people but how it is set up. One real disappointment I had with the beta is the means of communications but I hope that will be rectified in the full game. In the beta the in game coms was restricted to your fire team (of 3 players) and the only way to communicate was to create a fire team. However, raids involve 6 players who will need to communicate effectively according to Bungie suggesting that the coms in the beta were restricted for some reason.
As others have said you do not know me. So my suggestion would be rent the game when it releases and if you enjoy it then buy it. i recommend party chat for the ps4 version, allows up to 8 people. lets the fireteam split up and do different stuff before reforming as well
