The buff to Amarr also makes it somewhat appealing but I will never touch the Calamari scum dropsuit.
First of all let me say I am a terrible scout... I tried it way back in the day when I joined Dust last year and I hated it. Pretty much the only reasons I'm considering it are: the cloak making it easier for people like me who can't stand being a glass cannon in a FPS, and the biotics and EWAR skills boosting all of my dropsuits not just the scout.
Gallente with a shotty is easy mode. Seriously. I'm the shittiest scout on the planet, but with a cloak and a shotty I'm pretty damn good. I just love being invisible with that suit. One time on my Gal scout character, I defended enemy home point on a 5 point bridge map, and I barely even died once or twice and held it the whole match.
Minja appeals to me because I used to be a Min Logi hacker but I respeced out of it. I have seen Minjas in PC battles sneak in right under our noses and hack the fully guarded objective before we even realized they're there. But knifing is really hard compared to just having a shotgun, and I have a feeling I will be terrible without one (people usually use combat rifles.) I have a character with proto knives, advanced suit, a cloak, proto damps and advanced combat rifle... and I just suck at it so much. It would be very hard and take a lot of getting used to. I'd also be hard pressed not to even bother using the CR because I already have the AR and I don't want to spend too much SP. Maybe I'd have a better time of it with Kin Cats.
Not only is the Amarr looking good once hotfix Charlie comes, but I might also save my SP and see if the Assault suit becomes viable again. There's nothing I'd love more than ripping people apart with a Gallente that actually has a GOOD AR bonus.
Lastly, another thing I've considered was the Caldari Sentinel. But it kind of seems pointless that I already have the Amarr proto'd out, and would just wind up using it less and spreading my SP thinner.
CCP, I thought I was going to start liking you again. I really did. Then you announced this event.

Your reading comprehension needs work.
I said GalFrogs are easy mode. Minja is hard mode, Amarr is looking to become the new middle ground, and Caldari are just OP.
I'm going to have to pick either a scout or an assault if they become viable, because I'll need a suit I can put Biotics on. Right now I've just got the GalLogi and I'd rather have him armor tanked than speedy.

OG minja here-
Minjas only work well if you have all your core skills up, use knives and max them out- IshNoks or go home, as well as shoot for minja skill lv 5 (you need them bonuses). You also must like fast paced combat where you can just as easily work with a squad as go solo.
It is one of the hardest suits to run, not only because of the high SP requirements, but you are at a severe disadvantage to every single other suit in one way or another. hotfix charlie looks promising, but right now you are going to find you are PG fuc ked.
But if you like glory? Like being the underdog that kills OP prey? Then buckle up and go get them.
Run knives in your L slot and flaylocks in your S slot with flux nades. 21 yr aged Red jars, codebreakers (gotta get hacking lv 5 too), C damps in the lows. Cloaks, and compact nanos are your friends. Extenders and precisions in your highs.
Good luck!

My default fit is essentially all adv Min scout:
3 adv precision (anti Minja) 1 enh range extender 1 adv dampener
ADV breach shotgun - got to clear the heavy before hacking A M209 SMG for 'range'
ADV Cloak and REs
It is the definition of a glass cannon. Fun fit to play too. I just need to make a version that swaps the cannon for knives.

Shotgun isn't easy thanks to their hit detection lol
In all seriousness, though I specced into Gallente Scout first because I liked the look of the suit. I didn't notice any bonuses until I was at advanced level (back in 1.2 when scouts were hard mode). Nowadays, people call that suit easy, but it is not the case. If you don't wear damps or plates, you'll be "just another scout" in terms of difficulty.
The Minmatar is fun, fast, and just my playstyle. Too bad I didn't notice it sooner. Damn me for starting out as a Gallente loyalist. |

I don't know your play style, but if you go minja, you will likely have to drastically change your style.
It is very hard to pull it off as a slayer suit.
Personally, I use it for infiltration and chaos making. I try and hack lots of CRUs and unattended objectives to distract the reds and perhaps give my team different spawning options.
Knives are very hard to get used to. I ran them for months before I became any competent with them, and even then it took the Shinobi event to encourage me to use them more than I would have. Sometimes you have to play it safe and take out hackers and other stationary targets, other times you just have to test out your skills and use them on the run and in CQC. It is lots of fun, more so than any other weapon type I have tried.
Also, be prepared to die. A lot. And quickly.
This is how a minja feels

I use min scout and find it a very flexible suit.
The 3+3 config at proto gives you a lot of options with maxed skills.
You are: the fastest suit the fastest hacker 2nd best at passive scanning 2nd best at damening 2nd best at range
You can combine precision with dampening and range:
2 proto precision 2 proto damp 1 proto range amplifier
Whilst this doesn't get you the best possible ewar, it's a unique combination - you are invisible to all but maxed precision caldari scouts and you can scan all but the heaviest dampend Gallente scouts.
CR or SG as main and NK or SMG as a side, flux nades plus REs.
With maxed hacking skills you can hack in under 5 seconds without a codebreaker.
It can look bad on paper but this is one fun and effective suit in pubs.

Sounds like you want to Minja, but you're not sure about it. I have a Minja on an alt, about 17 mil SP, prof 5 NK, and it is hard as f**k... but I've never had this much fun in a long time. I started as a Min logi, worked my way into heavy, and scout was just so freaking hard. But it's good because it requires you to see the battlefield in a completely new way, and play entirely different from what you may be used to. It renewed my interest in the game for me, to be perfectly honest.
Also, getting NK kills are the best. I mean, seriously, I cackle maniaclly when I get one, to the point where my squadmates think I'm a lunatic. But no joke, it takes a metric crapton of practice to do it on a consistent basis. The key for me is that I had to force myself to use them, to think of them as a primary weapon, rather than backup. I failed pretty regularly whenever I fit any kind of rifle or smg, because I would always revert back to my gun when in trouble, instead of running away or finding another angle of attack. So I created a ZN-28 fitting only -- no backup weapon at all -- and no extenders or plates of any kind. Precision enhancers and dampers only.
So I ran around with that for a couple weeks, and my perspective changed entirely. I eventually settled on using a scram pistol also, because you want to be able to quickly flip R1 if you are holding a charge and want to release, but dont want your prey to hear the nk go off.
Anyway, its been a blast for me. Cal heavy is a good choice too, even if you already have Amarr, because Cal is the best for forge gunning, in my opinion. Snipers have a hard time with you on towers because of the shield recharge speed, and you can fill the highs with damage modes. I dont even bother trying to run a forge on my Amarr suits anymore.

Think about scouts after charlie.
After hotfix (i got everything caldari maxed) scouts overwall will have easier versus each otcher. I run w+¡th knives as cal scout. They are great. Minmatar bonus add 350+more dmg (prof 5) when charged or some more, so its not so big deal.
So to the point. If you choose matar scout, you will have to learn to often move. From point to point. They are better at killing some guys and hack objective than defending base. Because if you put dampeners, you will lose your adentages.
Amarr.. ill say nothing, they are slooow.
Caldari/Gal. They will both have damp bonuse. Which is great as you only need 1-2 damps (no cloak) to avoid everything. For caldari, 1damp + kincat/range amp and for highs shields (after charlie, remember). Gal have more diversity. He can put damps, kincats, armor at once. Its just up to you, fast regen from cal or 4 lows from gal.
Choose wisely.
PS. About these who say cal scum. Once agian, being invisible (on radar,by damps) is better than being able to see. And im quite happy that ill hide in charlie rather than scan. If youre having problem with killing scout.. goddamit eqiup ScR how many times i must say it :].

Mejt0, you don't lose your advantage if you put dampeners on a Minja. They can't accomplish stealth hacks without it. I'll admit that it sounds like a better option to put Kin Cats than dampeners if you are knifing, but I'd argue that dampening and general EWAR is a necessity for ANY scout. I may only be a novice scout but I have been mulling this over from online and in-game data for months now, trying to make my decision.
Caldari are getting a dampening bonus now? WTF... I'll have to check Rattati's thread now, that's bullshit I disagree with it entirely.

Dont missunderstand me. I run 2damp on cal. So i know what im talking. But again with minmatar you will run and hack objectives while killing people on the way. 2damps +cloak for minmatar will allow to hide from cal, but you will lose speed.
Its good that cal gets dampening bonus. If thier scan role is taken so damp is on place. They can even reduce scan range if it will be needed but at the moment its perfect.

Oh, I see what Rattati did now.
I really disagree with them just copy pasting the precision bonus to the Amarr... I mean yeah, that's going to solve the problem of it being UP, but in a very bad way. It doesn't matter if people need to put 4 range amps on... they're still going to attempt it and make the suit OP...
Knowing this makes me even more afraid of skilling into the Minja. The only reason I was even considering it was because of the Caldari precision nerf. Now that I realize it's just going to be the Amarr now... Eh. Maybe I shouldn't worry about it so much.
I'm just not sure being a completely scannable, fast hacker and sprinter is for me. I like the idea of being invisible more.

Maybe but amarr will be 2x worse at its job than cal is now. And they are thinking about taking share scans so its good. Amarr will be slow and 2damp will give you invisibility. Right now i started playing cal as minmatar. 1 damp + kincat in lowas and its good. Speed is key (as one youtuber says). If youre not sure, then i would recomend to spec cal/gal. They get dampening bonus. Thats all what matters.

Yeah I have been hearing ScP are good on scouts if you get headshots. I like your story. However I do really well with a forge on my Amarr, as long as there isn't more than one dropship attacking me Yeah, the Scp pistol & NK combo is a good one, for me anyway. I had two big problems with NKs at the start. The first was, I would sneak up on somebody, then think, "well, I can just shoot him in the back and be done with it"... then when I did, he'd whip around and melt me before I could finish him off; where if I had tried for the NK kill, it would have been a OHK.
The second was, I'd get in position, charge my NK, then all of a sudden my prey would be off running somewhere, and since you can't run with a charge, you'd have to let it go, and that sound alerted him to your presence. So it became important to fill the second weapon slot, but not with any weapon I would find preferable to NKs, otherwise I would revert back to gunning instead of slicing and dicing. So Scp it was... and only later on did I realize how good it was for defending yourself up close. They are good complimentary weapons, also because they require the same kind of aiming skill.
Re: Cal heavies and forging, Amarr is suitable, but Cal is infinitely better. Heavy forgers are always sniper bait, and the Cal has two main defences against that -- the short shield recharge delay, and the defense bonus against blaster weapons, which sniper rifles, some tank turrets, and incidentally shotguns are classed as, providing a bit more protection from shotgun scouts.
Either is a great choice.

Here's what I discovered when playing scout (non-tanked, obviously): If you are seen, you are dead. So don't been seen.
My .02 isk, YMMV. I'm sure there's some mercs that have been able to make it work, but I haven't found way. I run all dampers on lows except at proto, where the third slot I throw a kin cat on.

You better go play as a heavy. Your reading comprehension needs work. I said GalFrogs are easy mode. Minja is hard mode, Amarr is looking to become the new middle ground, and Caldari are just OP. .
Explain this: '' Caldari are just OP. ''
because i do not see the OPNESS in caldari scout suits...

Well if you don't want Min for NK....don't know why else you would want to go into it other than for the challenge.
"One does not simply" run like a Raptor. Only Mk.0 Scouts will do that.
NK are my Teeth, Kin Cats are my Legs.
