People are still going to the academy in an attempt to feel relivant? Thats adorable. Dust must be improving by leaps and bounds day by day. You know, cause people still like to hide in the academy......
Would you care to brag about your kill count from said academy matches? Im pretty sure people will be impressed..... |

My kill count? over 9000. Ooft, I like the hostility, but from a non factor such as yourself It feels diminished in some way, I don't need to try and stay relevant, because I am. This post was more about the fact I finally made another character to post on, a sort of hello to all the forum warriors I enjoy speaking to here, and less about murdering academy scrubs.

As far as I know, CCP doesn't care if we use our 2nd and 3rd slot characters to try out new things, so it is inevitable that you'll find yourself in Battle Academy again.
Personally, I really really like battle academy and the few times I've gone back I've tried really hard not to stomp on the new players. I want them to get into dust the way I did and having one player just completely decimate your team is not a good way of retaining new players.
So after I get all of my testing done, I spend the rest of the match just messing around, shooting up the sky, driving LAV's as far into the redline as I can, and or trying to melee unsuspecting players etc. I think you should too. It's much more fun that way...
*edit and yes, the new blueberries are incredibly adorable. |

Lol, your bragging about the academy. Nothing more needs to be said. Lol, the children really have taken over since most of us vets left after ff14. Keep practicing, maybe some day you will impress somebody with your ability to not crouch in the academy.
I like how you are so relevant your go to defense is to reference your KC, screams trainee/weak link.
Keep making alts and playing in the academy, sounds like thats more your speed. Those battles with the big boys are really hard arent they?

So your a vet, and you made an alt to say hello to everyone, but all you had to say was how adorable everyone with no sp or experience in the academy was? Am I about right?
The part about your KC for the match you are bragging about was sarcasm, the fact you miss understood it is whatever, but the fact you try and defend yourself with a lifetime KC of 9000 is just to awesome for words. You, my friend, are somebody. Don't let those tricky academy noobs give you any mess. Im sure all the kids at the special needs facility you stay at are rooting for you. |

I sat on a building watching the cuties crouch walking around the objective, I am allowed to state my observations sir, they were infact adorable, and I did infact give them an A for effort.
Now I feel bad for lying, I don't have a KC of 9000 :( Can I still have your permission to be somebody?

If you feel the need to quote every single post 2 spaces after its made, be my guest. And you can be anybody you want to be, just like mommy and daddy told you.
The fact you are apparently getting such a kick out of the well known fact that new players entering the academy are garbage makes you seem pretty noobish yourself. You know that information has been well known since forever right? So either you are just about to enter middle school, or your feeling good about yourself that, finally, you arent that guy crouching down in the academy. Congrats, youve learned the ropes. Legend has it if you keep bragging on the forums it will make you a better player.

It's a hard habit to break, It's just the most natural thing for me to do really. You're right, but mommy said daddy was a **** and she didn't like dicks, and now I have second mommy too, and they both said I can be whatever I want, and that I can marry whoever I want as well.
I don't quite understand where you're getting the fact I'm getting a kick out of watching newbies fight, it's incredibly dull, I mean not MCC farming dull, but if I didn't have to actually play a match for 10 minutes, I wouldn't have bothered.
I am not american, so middle school doesn't exist for me, and I do feel good that I have not, ever, crouch walked in a FPS. I hope you're right about the whole bragging thing, so I'll say my main has more likes than you. Does that make me better?

Well, in general, I'd agree, but when it comes to alts and academy, there are players who will create alts just to try and get a 100+ KDR and then never log in again, they still end up in a academy fight with low kdr players, at least the first battle.

Go ahead and re read your first post (ironic I quoted it, I know) and ask again why I think you enjoy watching trainees fight. And hey, if your mom likes women, no problem there, im fairly fond of women myself.
If you want to feel having more likes makes you a better player, thats on you. Of course, I would say that makes it more likely that you would create a trash thread like the one we are currently in.

Reread, still don't see it, I see an observation rather than bragging. And I never said likes make a better player, it makes a better forumer. And I'll admit, I make a lot of trash threads, but generally my ideas get me more likes. :)
If it bugs you so much, skip the bit about the academy and just say Hai, that way everyone else who doesn't give a damn, smiles at the thought of the time they were newbs, because really if you ever meet newbs and they do ridiculous things, you always have a stray thought about what you did when you started out (Like, flying a couple hundred dropships, getting flipped upside down, and getting out in a shock heavy, good times.) while you can just say Hai and not focus on an irrelevant tidbit.

I would imagine it helped you in the like department being in on the forums nearly a year before I began playing, as well as hanging around after ff14. It would be a bit easier to look past the newb bashing in your op if their was any other substance to it than what was, a shot at new players. Don't get me wrong, I made more than my fair share of trash posts in my time, though I would like to think (and maybe im wrong here, go ahead and search my main again to double check my posts) i never bashed somebody who couldnt defend themselves. As for new player sillyness, yeah that wore off like a month into Dust. If you really are still getting such a kick out of it, I dont know what to tell you other than at face value (which is all there is to go on through text) it looks an awful lot like you are compensating for something. |

The thing is buddy, it wasn't trashing towards the new players, maybe if someone refers to you as adorable or cutie, you get all upset, when I refer to someone as adorable or cutie, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. To "defend" myself, I watched the majority of it stand up on a high point, watching a crew of guys crouch walk towards an objective. It amused me, I added it to my thread.
Also, any FFXI and FFXIV are bad games and you should feel bad for playing an online Final Fantasy.
So let me clarify, it wasn't a dig, it was cute. #dwi

Ok, sooooo.......you want to go figure out exactly what it is you are trying to say, or are you just gonna keep flip flopping every few posts? This isn't any fun if you are not bringing your A game, and I'm not sure Dust has a Forum Academy for you.
I actually had a good time with the first final fantasy online, it was a decent, functioning game (that I think is still running today, though I could be wrong. Did a bit better than Dust did for sure though), of course, there were no rookies for you to beat up on, so I'm not surprised you didn't enjoy it.
Anyway, as we both know, I was referring to fan fest 14.
Quick question, you guys still q-syncing academy matches, or did you "up the skill level" by running them solo now.

NJP, I guess we are done for now? You seemed so eager to point out the disparity of likes between your main and my dead main. Apparently a large amount of likes doesn't keep you from talking yourself into a corner, or maintaining a single line of thought for more than 3 minutes. Looks like your mom should have focused on treating your ADD, not telling you that you can kiss boys if you want (totally cool if thats what you are into). Oh well, im sure that in true "forum warrior" style, you'll show back up later in the night when you think im not around to get the last word in. Guess we'll find out soon enough. |

And I had to clear my ******* cache because bungie kept linking my account to my alt PSN, got into the Destiny Beta cos DUST guys are wonderful. I'm not flip flopping my dear, Newbies are adorable, Academy fights are dull, crouch walkers amuse me. Does that clear it up? Look guy, MY MOMS WERE COOL, don't be upset because your parents never said that you were special in whispered voices.
It's just amusing how quickly you got.. would the word be angered here? Because it seems like there's a hint of anger here, I mean, what with the subtle insults and such, you just seem mad.. I apologize if I've offended you and your crouch walking ways, I truly am, I won't knock you for it, it's adorable but I mean, you just go out there and do your best darlin'.

Well, in general, I'd agree, but when it comes to alts and academy, there are players who will create alts just to try and get a 100+ KDR and then never log in again, they still end up in a academy fight with low kdr players, at least the first battle.
Nothing's perfect, but it would sure go a long way, leaving only the PSYCHOTICALLY insecure few to ply this tactic.
K/D(r) WP/D(r) matchmaking fixes the whole game. Period.

Educate yourself, scrublet. Lol, good, your back. Here is post #3, your very first response to my very first post. Whos mad again? You were gone for a good bit more than 5 minutes. Go ahead and read the first 2 words of my post like youve been doing, clean up your cache again, then come on back and flat out deny that you keep shooting yourself in the foot. Not trying to chase you off, your doing all my work for me ;) Oh btw, good stuff with the voices in head thing, makes you seem really edgy and cool. (<----woops, looks like im guilty of reading your posts too fast lol, you can disregard that sentence).
I feel we're both reading each other's posts in a very different way to how we are trying to display, I'm currently imagining an overexcited kid trying to get a one up on someone, and perhaps you're imagining the same, however read my slowly, calmly and with a hint of amusement in mind and that's pretty much how I'm replying, which I may be wrong to assume, but is probably what you're also intending to get across.
Aye it was longer than 5 minutes, I suppose it's no excuse, I'll give you a heads up now then, I fully intend to go shoot things on Jason Pearson (my main), in a regular match, you know, to kill scrubs and boost my KDR, because that's what I do. I also fully intend to reply to people in my other thread talking about optimal ranges, so It's quite possible I will post slower than I should. But don't worry, I always get around to my fans. :P
Oh and I am edgy and cool, my dead sister in my head tells me so (****, another TV reference, just another heads up.)

You know what, I will come from this thread a little better off, because I rarely get complimented on my sentence structure and ability to speak English, thanks. I am actually Welsh, you know, Wales? The little country everyone assumes in just another part of England. I could be more like "yaw bruv hu da fuk u think ur talking 2 m8, ur a proper mug yu get me fam?" if you'd prefer, but honestly things such as "Darlin'" is just how I actually talk.
I think it comes from a games I've played previously, If you've ever played RP servers or roleplay games, I'm thinking things like SA-MP and FoM, then crouchwalking is usually done by RPers to pretend they're being "tactical", I guess it just takes me back to those games.

I imagine, since Halo is the other HUUGE sci-fi fps game, many new players come into dust thinking it will play just like Halo.
Is it adorable? yes. is it effective? not at all, unless you're walking behind cover or around a hill. but they don't know that because there is no tutorial saying what can and what can't get you under the radar. |

Now that makes a little more sense, yeah, going back to starting out, I heard something about sprinting would make you show up on the map, so I didn't sprint anywhere, just jogged along trying to "not get caught". I guess it comes down to what we've played, I never played personally but those I introduced to DUST say "This is similar to Halo but for playstation"..

Lol yeah used to be the simple mention of the academy started at sh*t storm about sp graduation requirments and vets basically living in the academy. To this day I see no purpose for the academy, of course the game will forever be frozen in time so I guess it doesnt matter. What is the graduation requirment at these days, out of curiousity? |

well, the academy is there to create an environment for new players that is a bit more forgiving then the current environment, and the truth is, it is working. Because everyone starts off with such low sp, you are guaranteed that the vast majority of players are running militia or mostly militia. Sure, you'll get 2 or 3 vets playing in BA, but even they have to deal with the low sp, so it's not nearly as bad as having to face a squad of proto players.
Because I try to be careful with not upsetting the beginning experience I have only received 1 hate mail my entire dust career. I was trying to test to see if the increased rate-of-fire of the tactical sniper rifle was better or if I should just go for the increased damage-per-shot of the higher tiered sniper rifles. Someone accused me of hacking because I had something that wasn't militia. (o_O ) said I would get banned.
But anyways, you do NOT want me on your team in Battle Academy. besides testing, I will do absolutely nothing to help my team win. lol.
and you get out of BA if you accumulate a lifetime total of 2,000 war points. |

Good question, I think it's 2500 WP. It's a bad system, because not only does it throw people out into the big bad universe almost immediately, but if the WP threshold is increased, then you'll get people who intend to just pad their KDR for a while. Never understood why CCP never prioritized an in depth tutorial with NPC opponents to take on, they wouldn't even have to be that good.
If Legion ends up with the same setup there's probably no hope, it needs to cover so many things:
- Basic Infantry Gameplay, fighting single enemies and learning the roles through usage
- Basic Vehicle Gameplay, Tanks fights, dropship piloting, etc.
- Interactive fitting tutorial
- Optional Market and Social tutorial
Not only this, but KDR and WPL needs to factor into matchmaking, If you're running 0/10 every game with a WPL of like 5, then you need to be matched up with people similar, not someone who's got a 10 KDR with a 1000 WPL

Yea I think NPC academy would be the way to go. Even with no sp and militia gear, simple map knowledge is such a huge factor. As a vet, you can glance at the overhead map and damn near predict the ebb and flow of battle. Before I switched from assault to logi I ran some academy matches to learn the ropes of effective drop uplinking, back when they gave you those free uplinks for completing whatever the training goals were, and with few to no vets on the other team battles could be easily won with uplinks alone. I remember when I started playing the grad requirment was 400wp. I had read on the forums how tough the transition was and was a bit nervous, cause I thought the academy was hard enough as it was. Then a week into playing I got a better grasp on what all was going on and realized I had been out of the academy for 6 days lol. Not that Dust was easy, I was just thinking "man, if the academy is this tough, the real game must be hell" lol.
Best bet would seem to be just give people a stress free place to try out all the buttons, some weapons, maybe some scenarios with an NPC squad, vehicle basics, and thats it. Its really hard to train people for all the wacky sh*t regulars and vets can pull off in Dust, might as well throw them to the wolves. I feel you learn a lot faster if you arent made to feel somewhat safe. |
