Yeah, what is your stance on pve CPM1?
At what date can the masses expect it to be delivered? Is there any work currently being done on pve by CCP? Has there ever been any work done on pve by CCP? What is the NDA situation for CPM1? Whether they are answered or not, are these questions able to be answered in any kind of meaningful way, or only in vague misdirection?
I'm sure enquiring minds would just love to know once you have taken office......... |

We're not getting PVE in DUST.
It was specifically stated in the 'DUST keynote' (or rather, the Legion keynote) that it wouldn't be coming to DUST.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

At what point can work on Legion be expected to begin? With CCP having dumped pretty much everything other than EVE, it should be seeing work now correct? |

Sadly I don't foresee PvE happening in Dust, there just isn't the support from CCP to make that happen.
As for Legion I see PvE as an excellent tool, both for NPE as well as general game mechanics. PvE gives a 'safe zone' where players can earn money and SP is a co-operative environment instead of competitive. Plus it's also a fantastic way for all players, new and old, to just group with their friends and go blow **** up without the stress that sometimes comes with PvP.
There are also a ton of fun game mechanics you can build around the PvE system, such as players calling in Drones to assist them in battle and whatnot.
Like my ideas?

Jeesh, another one?
CCP has said "No more client side updates" multiple times, yet people keep asking for things that can't happen without a client side update.
We're (still) beta testing a game, only it's not Dust anymore... it's Legion.
Maybe.
If it happens.
Someday. |

How can they have a stance on something that will never come to DUST, we've been saying this for a while now.

PvE would be a welcome addition to Dust 514. It would help get new players into Dust as well as retain veteran players. CCP does not have any plans on implementing PvE into Dust 514 because reasons.
I think CPM1 will probably be largely supportive of some kind of PvE in Legion though. That's how I would rephrase your question.

Watch this please. It's the 2014 Fanfest keynote. It's only 20 minutes. Watch it and come back when you are done.
... Back? Okay, so if that didn't make it abundantly clear that Dust 514 is out and Legion is in, then I don't know any other way to persuade you. We can expect hotfixes for balancing to roll out over the next several months. Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, and so on. I would not ever expect 1.9 (genuinely new content).

Someday. No, they said a client side update would be very rare. And if they happen to make a new gun or something for legion they will try to push it out for Dust. But that is VERY RARE.

My feelings on the decision to move develop Legion instead of Dust 514 are irrelevant. Even if every player in Dust decided to quit out of rage CCP would continue to develop Legion. They know PC is a more versatile platform for agile development and consoles are, unfortunately, a dwindling market.

Actually... it was explained that CPM1 is onboard to assist in Dust 514's continued maintenance as well as assist with the development of Legion. Obviously they will be under an NDA, but they will be talking to CCP about Legion a lot.
Dust isn't dead. It's player population isn't healthy and it isn't being developed for anymore... but it isn't dead. It is ridiculously hard to kill a F2P game. So Dust isn't dead, so much as it is frozen in time. What you see of Dust 514 is pretty much going to be the norm for the rest of it's "life".
My advice to you, playa...

I don't code any more. It's been atleast 10 years since I did anything along those lines. But a quick google search turns up;
http://willyg302.wordpress.com/2011/12/25/learning-unrealscript-part-4-building-an-ai-class/
I would be quite happy with badly scripted bots. I'd probs log in more than once every month or 2.
PvE was always one of the biggest attractions to me waaaay back in beta. It was a deciding factor over Planetside 2 for me. Dumb fun.
CCP Rouge made quiet a noise at fanfest about immersion, and I agree that it's a vital part of any engrossing game. Being that in Dust, your clone is from one of 4 empire factions, I don't see why pirates aren't represented by AI bots. Imagine EvE with no Guristas (no playboy pirates), no Sansha (bye bye incursion community), no angels (epic arc) etc.
I know ccp probably want to stop working with Unreal3, but the PS3 still has years of life in it. Seems stupid to sell themselves short when they can squeeze more cash out of the Dust community, and possibly even grow that community with a single addition. Think of all the highsec players in EvE that buy ship skins, fancy dress, PLEX and AUR, and never once intend to shoot anything tougher than lvl 4 missions.
AI Pirate/Drone bots for Christmas please CCP. |

Think of all the highsec players in EvE that buy ship skins, fancy dress, PLEX and AUR, and never once intend to shoot anything tougher than lvl 4 missions. AI Pirate/Drone bots for Christmas please CCP. Flip it around. You're the EP of DUST and you are in charge of a pretty awesome game with a ton of potential, many problems on a platform with a fast-approaching expiration date, a small but devoted playerbase, a skeleton crew of developers, small and shrinking revenues, and a boss who is seriously considering pulling the plug on the whole thing. Moving to the PC is the smart play. You get a small team to keep refining the DUST experience and pour the rest of your resources into the relaunch. Your main goal at this point is to build a prototype that is impressive enough to your boss to warrant an official green light, demonstrating that you and your team are capable of producing a great game. Everything else is really a distraction from that goal.
Your goal with DUST is to use it to refine game balance so you can cut/paste the stats into Legion. Improving the game has the added benefit of bringing in much needed revenue to help offset some of your losses, while adding new players to help offset those that leave. Presumably many of these players will move to Legion if you can keep them happy.
The one point I think can be made is that we should get the missing racial vehicles, turrets and heavy weapons. Once you've got the green light, it's reasonable to pause Legion development briefly to do a 30-day sprint on DUST to give some much-needed content. Your DUST players can help balance the new toys, it will make them happy and add revenue, while giving you the valuable balancing info you need for a smooth launch. If a smooth launch can be achieved, your reviews will be high and that will translate into a lot of cash down the road. This also buys you more time for Legion development, since DUST players have new content to enjoy, they won't start to drop off while waiting on Legion. Legion can be more polished as a result.
PvE in DUST would be a poor strategy. It will take a ton of resources, and none of those developer resources will carry over to Legion. It's like burning money, instead of investing it. The missing racial vehicles, turrets and heavy weapons however would yield incredibly valuable balancing data.
Best PvE idea ever!
