In scale of 1-10 (1 being utter failure and 10 being a great hit) I want a honest opinion from you guys regarding Dust 514's sucess.
I know nothing about game marketing/managing/etc so while I have gotten a idea that Dust 514 wasn't a huge success with all the players who are still so eager about the game; it had to have done something right.
So please rate away! |

Out of 10?
Success being delivering what CCP presented in 2009 and then later at the 2013 Fanfest?
3/10 if I am pushing it.....
Now bear in mind that 4 of those missing points could have been achieved by reaching racial parity across the board in Dust 514 AKA giving me my ******* Amarrian HAV....... the others could have been earned by meeting those goals they initially out lined.
I'm not going to lie though Dust was not successful that that does not mean I think its a bad game. I love the universe of New Eden, its fantastic, and the potential is incredible..... all CCP needs to do is take what Dust produced and build a solid foundation on that.
After they do that they have the time and freedom to produce more content and EVE Legion Links while developing a player base..... those bitter vets who hopefully have their concerns finally addressed and those fresh faced newbies with drawn in by the promise on New Eden.

Hmmm... from a game point, I guess an 8/ 10.
It doesn't have pve and I'm getting bored of the maps, but it is a really solid shooter and a lot of fun. I would rate it higher if I had more clothing options and color schemes (and could maybe decorate my room).
But from a successful point point of view...
probably a 3/ 10.
CCP isn't making Dust for charity. they need to make money. And since they depend on players like me, I feel bad saying I am not going to buy any packs any time soon. Aurum doesn't seem that appealing, and I'm not going to spend money on something that will last me all of 5 matches before I lose it forever.
CCP used to have BPO's for sale. I would pay money for that, especially (!!!!) if the suits had unique color schemes. I love buying clothes dlc, even if they don't do anything in game, so I'm bummed I can't do that with Dust 514.
Sad, because I DO want Dust to succeed. (T_T ) |

im giving it a 4, with the addition of racial vehcles a 5 and possibly a 6 with basic pve and open districts, and .5 points per every 500 additional players per hour added to our curent population up to about 10K and then we would need a different scale |

To be honest...
Dust 514 was very successful because it was a "test" for a better game (Hint hint: Legion).
7/10
only BECAUSE they got enough people to fall for a trap.
But without that... you're looking at a 3/10.

3.9/10
That is for various reasons. It's a great game to play but after a while it becomes very boring as it just becomes an endless grind.
I will give it an extra point and bring it up to 4.9/10 for being unique. But that will be removed once Destiny comes out. The community isn't really that great either. Sorry guys but you know it's true. Maybe there are few good people here, but really the shiniest turd in a turd bowl is still a turd. Mind you that's judging the community as a whole including myself.
I will give CCP credit for trying but after a while it started to feel like they were beating a dead horse with a stick called 'Balance'. Sure the horse will kick because the nerve endings are still attached and all together, but the horse is dead.
I will still play Dust because it is a great game, but it always feels like its lacking. I don't even find any fun running my scout or my logi. Sure I'm not the best player, and I will never claim to be the best (unless I'm drunk, that's right I'm sober right now!)
One major upside I will throw in there is the squads and making new friends. But as I said before, people I can get along with in game are few and far between.
As True said before, it will make a good base for Legion if they can fix it and I will sit by and patiently wait for Legion while occasionally popping my head into Dust.

I will rate it subjectively from my own perspective of what the game has meant to me.
I have had so much fun playing this game.
I have never been more irritated than at times when I have played this game.
Fittings 9/10 I found it amusing planning ahead for what I could equip in those little boxes before I had maxed my CPU and PG. Minus 1 for having to perform so many manual calculations to get a firm understanding of the ewar etc. capabilities of my build.
MCC 5/10 We should be able to interact with the MCC in other ways, like mount an onboard gun, land our dropships in bays, etc. Also, it is parked, but would be cooler if it moved around.
Vehicles 10/10 All of the vehicles have their own individual feel. I am impressed with the various personalities of the war machines, whether I'm driving/piloting or taking them down with A/V.
Soldiering 9/10 Foot soldier warfare in Dust is gripping and engaging. There are diverse play styles and challenges to overcome and I have never spent a dull moment on the field. While there are technical problems with the gear and servers that cause severe frustration, I rate the intended soldiering experience as nearly exactly what I want from a FPS. We need work on cover and terrain glitches, but the actual soldiering feel is strong.
Team Play and Autonomy 10/10 Dust works as a squad based game or for lone wolves. Kudos to CCP for achieving this balance. There are enough communication channels to manage squads or tutor individuals over text/mic.
TACNET 5/10 This system for battlefield intel has merit, but the execution is mediocre at best. From stealth tanks to dot aliasing, this system could use a significant overhaul.
Game Design 5/10 CCP has created a battlefield theater that allows gamers to express themselves in a variety of ways, experience myriad roles and watch their buddies die repeatedly. They have also created a new fog of war with their convoluted ewar scheme. The mechanics of the game are exceedingly contrived. We have begged to be able to deny revives, we have tolerated the shifting rules of ewar over the various versions, and we have not transposed from the "that was bullsh*t" reaction to "that was believable" response. The game design does not appear to align with the needs of the community as a whole and needs more than tweaks.
Server Capabilities 1/10 I have a solid ISP (25 Mbps speed and <1ms jitter), and yet I have never experienced as much lag with anything ever as Dust 514. What the hell? CCP please double the budget for your server health. Jesus
Community 5/10 There is a generous amount of hostility in our community. I hope that newcomers are not deterred by the abrasiveness of our interactions. But there is also friendly support to be found here, so thanks everyone for just being who you are.
Development Team 3/10 Here's a group of guys who, historically, have needed some training on integration testing, regression testing, user acceptance testing and quality assurance. I have to admit, though, when I deploy to the battlefield and see a pinkish atmosphere and an enormous neighboring planet lingering over the horizon, I am mentally transported to that planet. So, well done on the game setting and look of the game. Also, when nanite injectors work correctly, it feels like I just stuck the guy with a needle, so well done on feel too. But there's certainly a notable degree of neglect concerning the final product: needs a lot more repair and polish.
Marketing 2/10 CCP released some strong trailers for this game but didn't live up to the hype. I don't know how much revenue was generated because of this game, but Dust 514 has attracted something of a stigma now. I don't foresee this game making much in the future unless the marketing and business model surrounding it change significantly. IMO we need ways other than microtransactions and boosters to spend money on the game. I personally would like to purchase some BPO goodies or buy some SP because I like paying for semi-permanent things.
Overall 6/10 While the game is supremely fun when it works, there are sundry drawbacks and irritants that pull this title down from the one-of-a-kind MMOFPS that it should be. CCP, if you ever revisit Dust 514, I hope you have the technical proficiency and budget to materialize your vision.

I think Dust 514 has been a complete success.
That's only if the goal was to beta test for a different game and disenfranchise thousands of customers so much so that they will never touch a CCP product again, though.
If that wasn't the intention, then 2. It would be a 1, but I'm sure I had fun at some point. Back in beta I think.

They could afford to listen polls however from the community. If people are argue, and they put up overwhelming reasons for it, then CCP should at least try it out. If it's adverse, change it.

How can it be anything other than a 1? I do like Dust very much, but when the developer prematurely decides to start over, how can it be seen as anything other than a failure?
That said, just imagine if Dust was in its current iteration when it was released. Then marketed appropriately and things like PvE and the Eve link being developed. Hmm, I wonder what the player base would be like as opposed to what it is now. |

- Does DUST have the fundamental core mechanics(aiming, movement, hit detection, controls, animations, fidelity, predictability, prioritization of personal skill) to be a solid shooter? No. In fact the flaws in DUST's core mechanics are pretty much a textbook example of a second-rate development process.
Core FPS: 3/10. - Does DUST have the core systems of a solid MMO(Corp tools, text and voice comms, socially informative HUD, ability to play with friends, matchmaking, stability, lag, solo play, interactive resource/economy)? To some extent, for some of these systems, yes. But for some not at all. Furthermore, the implementation on the systems we do have is currently in a half-finished state in terms of quality and features.
MMO: 4/10. - Does DUST have the feature suite that would make it an involving RPG(character progression, meaningful connection to the lore of New Eden, interesting/meaningful racial choices and roles, balance, NPE, fitting, customization)? Here DUST is at it's best. In the current hotfix environment we are iterating towards this. Again, systems are incomplete but progress is being made with what we do have at hand.
RPG: 6/10. - Most importantly in my eyes: the connection and relevance of DUST and it's mercs to/in New Eden. A lot could and has been said about this, so straight to the score:
New Eden: 2/10. - Fulfilling the original vision sold to us by CCP: So much is missing, so much works only passably. Still, significant technical back-end groundwork and infrastructure was put in place, even if we cannot reap the full fruits of that work in DUST.
Global Execution of the DUST Project: 3/10. - CCP's communication, interaction, treatment of/with the playerbase/betatesters has been poor and generally low grade/unprofessional. There have been exceptions, ofc, but there are far too many instances on these forums of CCP's bad attitude. CCP often chooses the worst possible way to deal with situations, often squandering the positives in their actions & decisions by acting in a way that highlights the negatives. It wouldn't matter, except it has had a real effect on the outcome of the DUST project.
Classiness/Professionalism/Honesty: 4/10. -
How much of the above was limited by the platform? Imo, none at all. The primary handicap faced by the DUST project was the quality of the decisions made by the executive management in control of the project, and the support they did or did not provide to the DUST dev team.

The platform is the scapegoat. CCP once loved her, but had to make her look like she was asking for it.
Although I agree that there could be many words put forth about CCP and their faillings from our perspective, it matters not at all unless CCP actually is willing to concede that they put a turd on the floor with Dust and really asses the process that led to that failure.
Is CCP a company that is capable of taking a hard look at themselves and making the tough calls? All evidence points to no. For me, CCP watching is now just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

This game literally has not hit a single goal they said they would hit they only did half of one goal and that's racial parity with suits but not weapons.
This is also the only game I know of that actually has less content as time goes on. It's like they tried to make this game fail.
All in all, this is a terrible game, but it still requires more thought than the average shooter, which is the only reason I play it, also for the Lore.
and that's the only reason I gave this game a 3and not a 1 or 2.

First I thought; don't even bother replying to idiotic remarks like that... Then I thought; hell, why not?
It's sad to see people that can't accept the enjoyment of others, and makes unjustified remarks based on their own warped sense of self entitlement. You have no basis for your claim, which makes you look even more silly.
