Hi Atiim, and THREE CHEERS to your thinking. (But, of course just raising the cost of the big vehicles in the game, by itself will only cause trouble--it needs to be done in careful conjunction with a couple of other components, to serve as a control/buffer against rocking the galactic boat). But your mindset is correct!
The game WAS about making the player feel "stuck" between two decisions as he/she enters each match: "Do I RISK my cherry-sweet powerhouse suit/Lav/HAV right now because I see a wide open opportunity in this particular match to devestate the reds"?-----or "Do I keep my honey in the garage this time because it's too VALUABLE to endanger unless I see a sweet and tempting reward"? That RISK-for-REWARD equation seems to be what EVE Online raves about, and they spend days and weeks after a noteworthy battle, just trying to tally how much material was destroyed and how much ISK lost. It's a 'VALUE' thing.
I remember playing this game around its May release date, and that "value" in ISK was nice and high. Owners compained constantly about having their pricy HAV roasted, and pricy Dropships turned into PopTarts within the first 30 seconds of gameplay (....cuz we learned the hardway not to do practice-driving where you could get shot at...duh, LOL). But THAT WAS GOOD, to me! --It curbed the shear number of vehicle players who populated the map.... --It reduced the reflex tendency to quickly replace your precious vehicle the moment it got destroyed... --It raised the calibre of vehicle players who lingered on the map (only the skilled ones felt confident that they could strafe the map through the entire session without getting destroyed). --And it made vehicle-players like myself a real gut-wrenching thrill to the decision to use my vehicle.
Knowing my 3 mill ISK toy could be lost in 3 seconds if I get careless... and knowing that there were AVers out there who were ready to drop their pants to score a successful kill off of my DS... gave me GREAT high blood pressure!!
I miss that High-vehicle-cost nervousness we used to have. These days, I can trick out my DS for cheap, and not feel any pain if I lose it.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
