I'm not sure if this idea has been discussed before but I just wanted to throw my idea out there. you can agree/disagree but I want community feedback on this and how it would change the game.
So staring blankly at my ps3 I thought about an idea. Shield/Armor Hardeners on dropsuits ( Passive of course ) It could mean a small increase in ttk ( with exceptions ) So here's what I thought
Shield Hardener: 3% Reduction to pg cost per level
STD 3% Reduction to Laser/Blaster weaponry damage taken CPU: 40 PG 8
ADV 6% Reduction to Laser/Blaster weaponry damage taken CPU: 55 PG 14
PRO 8% Reduction to Laser/Blaster weaponry damage taken CPU: 70 PG 18
Armor Hardener: 3% Reduction to cpu cost per level
STD 2% Reduction to Rail/Projectile weaponry damage taken CPU 35 PG 10
ADV 4% Reduction to Rail/Projectile weaponry damage taken CPU 50 PG 16
PRO 6% Reduction to Rail/Projectile weaponry damage taken CPU 65 PG 20
So the high cpu on shield hardeners go well with shield oriented suits ( *cough* caldari ) Because they usually have high base cpu. And with the skill to reduce pg usage per level it fits in because most shield tankers need pg to fit extenders etc.
And as armor hardeners go with more armor oriented suits and they usually have more pg to fit plating etc. The CPU reduction per level because it allows the armor tanker to fit things like Damage Mods etc.
So tell me what you guys think! The skills for the module were not to well thought out as that came across my mind other than uhh i don't know ( 5% Shield hardener efficiency per level )
EDIT: Disregard heavies for the time being as they are getting a cpu/pg decrease thanks.

So you're saying hardeners only on light and medium dropsuits?

Sorry about posting here. And no its meant for heavy to but there reducing the cpu pg. so I wouldn't be sure how it would effect it.

Well heavies have enough defense systems (shield/armor) already. I don't think hardeners would be a good idea to add to something that already has like 1000 armor. That would be ridiculous.

That's why I'd have to be active hardeners

Hardeners for dropsuits? Let's talk new game modes. We need to push that envelope more... |

Nocturnal Soul wrote:That's why I'd have to be active hardeners it could work. At first I was thinking, it wouldn't make sense to make them active because when you're getting shot at you don't have to time to activate a module, sometimes you don't even have enough time to turn around and shoot back.
but it would work amazing if you and your squad are about to storm a room. activate shield/ armor hardeners, and then swarm in swat style.
good idea. ^_^
also, I wonder how effective it would be if instead of a module it was an equipment and gave the bonus to both shields and armor. |

So basically, armor suits will never used hardeners? k

It's probably not worth it because 1 plate with its natural resistances against laser and plasma would probably provide more EHP anyway.
Not that I don't like the idea though.
One of the reasons these are fit in EVE is because plates and extenders are rather expensive in terms of fitting space and as ships have natural shield and armour resists varying depending on their racial proclivities..... so adding to those, or aiding in buffing weak resistances is necessary.
In dust it is not.....

what if it was an equipment like the cloak but it gave a very noticeable reduction to damage taken?
So, and I should warn you, I'm terrible with numbers, this is just an example:
standard- 4 seconds, 25% reduction to damage taken to shields and armor- cool down time 30 seconds
advanced- 5 seconds, 45% reduction to damage taken to shields and armor- cool down time 45 seconds
prototype- 5 seconds, 65% reduction to damage taken to shields and armor- cool down time 1 minute.
these numbers don't represent any balance, but are there more to get the idea across on how an equipment like "hardeners" would work. I'm sure with some tweaking, it could become a very useful item. |

EHP from a single equivalent shield extender/STD armor plate is higher for less CPU/PG at every tier across the board, including for Heavies. |

I only made armor resists weaker because of the difference between vehicle Armor/Shield Hardeners & That shields are more hit and run so they have a small edge when engaging.

The modules you are suggesting are passive. In vehicles they're active.
Armor hardeners last longer and recharge faster, here they're simply inferior.
