This is simply not accurate. If you are careless enough to stand still in the open I will happily line up a head-shot and terminate your assault clone with one shot from 500 m. Of course, this is only with my Thales or Charged SR. Any other sniper rifle and it will probably require a follow-up body shot... assuming you are moving after getting hit the first time.
However:
- I can not shoot you through cover.
- I can not shoot you if you are behind anything with a large hit-box (any installation) even if I can see and aim at part of you. Most people forget that their feet are valid targets behind trucks or other cover not actually on the ground.
- I can not line up that nice head-shot if you are moving even a little. It becomes a guessing game for me at that point.
- I can not 2 shot an assault suit with sufficient eHP with body shots. At least one of those has to be a headshot.
- At extreme ranges I can barely make out where your head even is in my scope due to relatively low zoom. I have to rely on my targeting intel displaying the head-shot bonus damage.
- The controller is very twitchy when trying to line up that head shot at extreme range. It often takes me a few seconds just to get my crosshairs on target because even a tiny movement of the stick will take my crosshair completely off of my target.
- I do not use sent suits for sniping, but I have been red-line killed by assault drop ships, orbital strikes, murder taxi (heavy with HMG coming to me in LAV which does not show up on my passive radar unless I can see him on-screen, shredding me, then fleeing in LAV back to hot zone), rail rifle users that are near the red-line, HAVs with rail guns, rail gun installations, and missile installations. I, of course, prefer to counter-snipe enemy red-liners.
- Even most of those sent suits will reflexively duck down behind cover if you send a few bullets their way, especially if you hit them for any damage at all. This allows you to get to safety since they can not shoot you while hiding behind cover themselves. You just have to hustle and stay aware
- During the frequent times that I snipe within the hot zone I am extremely vulnerable. I am sitting still, crouched, with my back exposed and using a weapon with a very loud, distinctive sound. No other role in the game is put into such a vulnerable position while fulfilling their basic purpose. Put that together with the fact that anyone with a basic shotgun can kill the heaviest fit in the game with 3 shots and you have a dead hot-zone sniper no matter what suit they are in.
- It is not necessarily the sniper rifle itself that is so dangerous to you. When I do hot-zone snipe I frequently get more kills with my SMG than my sniper rifle... is the SMG OP also?
- Lastly, you have to consider the skills of the players involved. There are a lot of people that I just CAN NOT kill with any sniper rifle because they make it so darned hard for me by moving, using cover, being aware of which directly my first shot hit them from, etc. I just end up looking for some fool standing still on that hill over there. *BANG* Headshot.
