Having spent the last few days playing the Destiny first look Alpha, I can say that I am simply amazed by how much time I've already put into the game. We're looking at maybe 15-20 hours already...and you can only progress from level 3 to level 8.
For those that don't know much about Destiny, here's a quick rundown:
Normal Gameplay -Story Mode is linear, but you get to choose how you progress through it -There are explore areas (separate from story) that allow you to run random missions, the types you'd normally find in MMO's -Multiplayer is slightly co-op, but you play by yourself most of the time -Instead of grouping up, you join a "world" that can have up to 3 players exploring it, and if you run into each other you can do missions together
PVP -Very fast paced shooter where most weapons kill you before you have time to react -Only two types of gameplay styles: Agressive and Defensive -Weapons are balanced by ammo type; rifles have almost infinite ammo, shotguns and snipers require ammo pickups from the map, and Rocket Launchers/Machine Guns only get ammo drops occasionally during the battle. -Support is non-existant in this stage. All 3 classes are just variations of the same ways to kill people (Class abilities do the same thing for the most part) _________________________________________________________________
So then what does Dust have that Destiny does not?
-Higher amount of variations that are possible -While you can slowly progress to make your character into a specific playstyle, there's currently no way to augment certain traits that you want to excel in -A repair tool (health levels aren't high enough to have healing be a helpful thing) -Large maps that allow for tactics, rather than rush and spam gameplay -A non-linear skill tree (you just unlock variations/upgrades to your character as you progress in Destiny) -Calling in vehicles (you have a speeder-bike that can be summoned, all other vehicles just spawn randomly -A top-down view of the entire map available in real time -Equipment that can change the flow of battle (things like scanners, uplinks, nanohives that can give your team an advantage) -Tacnet system that displays enemy information -A skill system that allows you to play casually and not have to grind (i.e. passive sp...Destiny has a linear skill system similar to CoD -Suits and deaths that matter and are worth/cost something
and a whole lot more.
Destiny is a beautiful game that I will probably play a lot of, but it doesn't replace the teamwork and fun I've had in Dust when it comes to multiplayer. I can't switch between classes in the heat of battle to counter an enemy that's using a specific tactic, I can't play a full on support class, and I can't upgrade my skills the way I want to in Destiny.
I'm now looking forward to Legion more than ever knowing that Destiny is not better in the aspects that count, the reasons I play Dust. I just hope I can also feel that way after playing Star Wars Battlefront 3.

What am I supposed to look forward to playing now? I don't have a gaming PC and I'm too poor to afford one due to bills and the likes. Meh...
Destiny is a time waster, that's for sure. You constantly feel like there are more things to do, just like in any RPG. The way the "questing" (If it's even fair to call it questing) system works is much easier and more rewarding than most MMOs I've played, and the gameplay sure is addicting.
But if you're looking for a good multiplayer game where you have to work together to be sucessful and be smart about tactcs, this isn't it.
The boss fights I played were almost all the same, and it was boring. They insta-killed you if you go too close, they insta-killed you from long distance, and the only way you could fight them was by ducking behind cover when they looked at you, only for you to fire at them when they were distracted with someone else.
the game is fun, just not the same fun as I have when squadding up in Dust

I was having fun in tne single player aspect of it, but as for the co-op multiplayer that I was EXPECTING from Destiny, it just wasn't there.
Dust is the only sci-fi shooter out there with a RPG-like class system. The only game better than Dust was Resistance 2, and they shut the multiplayer servers down so I can't play it anymore.
There's games out there like TF2, but it's just not the same. In Dust I feel like I'm a part of a team. You don't get that in any other shooter really.
