So, we are steamrolling in Amarr FW last night as I put down a few glasses of Absinthe, and start thinking about if that's an appropriate drink for a gentleman officer of the Empire. (I decided yes, btw. Maybe not the perfect one, but it works) So, then I take it a little farther, and start thinking about the other races.
What drink is most appropriate for a loyalist of each race?
The obvious answer for the Matari is vitoc (don't believe me? here, it's good, try some...) but I might be biased. Perhaps some cheap ass whiskey or homemade moonshine.
Gallente: Wine, of course, which someone dropped a roofie in to. Have to admit that the green fairy, absinthe, would work too. I guess that would make me like James Kirk drinking Romulan ale, which I can live with.
Caldari: Martini for their CEOs? Dunno about them.
Give me your choice for each race, and why.
I solve problems. I'm also John Demonsbane.

Gallente - Quafe. Alternatively, something alcoholic. Amarr - Water. Minmatar - Anything they can get their hands on. Caldari - Their own tears as they realise they crashed yet another capital ship into a planet.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

You do know Vitoc is a highly addictive and poisonous drug that causes agonising withdrawal symptoms without the antidote..... no sane person would drink that if they had a choice.
Amarr drink Spiced Wine, its a specialty of ours.
Caldari drink various forms of teas.
Gallente love their Quafe.

Which is why I'm offering it to the minmatar!
Anyway, I probably should have checked about lore-related drinks, thought about that too late. So, I'll rephrase the question:
Of the drinks that have their origins outside of New Eden (i.e., Terran), which is the one most in line with your faction, and why?

Sgt Kirk wrote:The Caldari can't help but to sacrifice themselves. Cowardice is the only way Caldari know how to fight. Two centuries ago, following the attack on Nouvelle Rouvenor an extreme right-wing government grabbed the power reigns in the Gallente Federation and advocated a harsh response: bombing Caldari Prime and sending in troops to take control of the planet. As the Gallente war machine grinded into gear, the Caldari saw that it was impossible to try to fight the much larger Gallente Federation for control of Caldari Prime; instead, they started devising a plan to evacuate the Caldari population on the planet. For the plan to work, an evacuation window of at least one month had to be created by the Caldari Navy.
Two weeks passed; finally, the Caldari admiral Yakiya Tovil-Toba took matters into his own hands. He led the few dozen ships he commanded and jumped to Gallente Prime. Tovil-Toba played a game of cat-and-mouse with the Gallenteans for a whole week. Eventually only one of his ships remained: a badly damaged fighter-carrier. In his dying breaths, Tovil-Toba directed the huge vessel down towards Gallente Prime. Upon entering the atmosphere the ship broke into several burning pieces, killing all aboard.
Admiral Tovil-Toba and his crew sacrificed themselves in order for millions more Caldari to escape. To this day he is revered as a national hero, and his name is one of the first things every Caldari child learns. We fight in his memory.
o7 admiral. I don't expect a gallentian to understand fighting for freedom, much less sacrafise yourself for it and your country men, you fight to control.
When we sought to leave your federation you wanted us to behave like gallentians, told us to behave like gallentians. After you bombed our home world we gave you a response to your demands for surrender,
CEP wrote: Caldari Prime burns, those left behind are choking on the dust and ash that fills the air, and you demand our surrender? Is this a joke? You have only hardened our resolve. Every drop of blood you have taken from us will be repaid -- with interest. When we returned to our home world you surrendered to our demands.
Yet we are the cowards?
As to the op I believe the caldari drink ceremonial tea. Though I'm sure when they are betting on races they prefer some good rice beer or sake. |

Minmatar would likely favor things like Mead, Spirits, or things made from herbs/flowers/nuts/creams (absinthe, liquers) and due to their tribal nature would probably have a very fond place in their heart for things that induced hallucinations likea absinthe, peyote or psychotropic fungi. In fact I believe there was an eve article that deals with a minmatar taking hallucinogens as a means of 'finding ancestral guidance'. You might even find some weird cases of things like fermented mares milk mixed with blood. When on duty, it would likely just be straight water or honeyed substances.
Caldari would favor simple grains turned into alchols, so stuff like sake, whiskeys, ryes, etc. The caldari homeworld had a notoriously harsh environment though if I recall correctly. The caldari would also probably be fond of things like fermented milk alcohols. Generally fairly sober people, the caldari don't drink often but when they do they get drunk hard and fast. They're very against hallucinogens. When they're on duty, they drink teas.
Gallente would be fairly similar to caldari due to their sheer proximity. Either beers, spirits, whiskeys, etc would all be applicable here, though the gallente culture and personality would likely favor much harder alcohols mixed with pleasant tasting and visually pleasing substances. Association with Minmatar and the very 'permissive' mindset of the gallente also favors hallucinogens. When on duty, they drink soft drinks.
Amarr have the largest number of agriculturally oriented worlds and nigh unlimited access to exquisite fruits, spices and herbs and as a result favor things like fruits turned into alcohols, generally with pleasing spices and woody tones... so you'd see stuff like wine, brandies, hard ciders, ginger beer, rums, etc. The amarr drink frequently, but seldom with the intent of actually getting drunk, it's more an accompaniment to a great meal etc. Interestingly enough they'd probably also have a very large selection of teas and coffees. Very young amarr would probably end up drinking juices, but at the age of around fourteen or so it would be considered acceptable to drink wine with the family.

Umm.... WTF? I really hope you've got some serious ties with Ishukone Corporation. I may or may not have contracted with them in the past but absolutely have no interest in their insorum program. Insorum's origins are not IC knowledge as far as I am aware....
Mr. Wolf and his organization are figments of your imagination and absolutely do not have access to any classified information of value and in fact you mis-heard what he said.
..If he actually existed. Which he does not.

That is actually a highly ritualized ceremony dating back to the years before we took to space, the tea may or may not be poisoned and even if it is, the poisons used are almost always potentially surviveable. You would have had to displease someone you served immensely for them to offer you an incredibly lethal poison... Or they'd have to be an arrogant, dogmatic, jingoist to kill you like that. The point of the tea ceremony is both the deception and uncertainty to whether the tea is poisoned and the chance of survival if it is, the mere act of your superior demanding that you gamble your life to atone for your failures, not being poisoned is an honor, surviving is an even greater honor (so much so that it can more than redeem your failures).

Indeed it is. Thanks for expanding on my post with detail. Good stuff.
