I feel Black Jackal has matured his view of Dust 514 over the year since I last scolded him for it and seeing his campaign thread today is very evidence of this.
Black Jackal I feel is a visionary and committed to the future of the vision for the game and I am sure he can shoulder the responsibilities needed for CPM 1.

I really don't think any of this is enough to dissuade me from Jackal's candidacy aside from maybe the part that he doesn't play?
People make mistakes Beld, they are inevitable.
However, if you had some proof or something that caused me to feel Jackal has not been playing it would raise concerns that he isn't in a good position to do more than contribute from opinions he gathers from others, which is only 1/2 the battle.

First off, I never focused on the EVE side of TSOLE. It was all or nothing. The primary issue in the beginning was that I tried to do everything myself after my confidence was betrayed by a co-founder to which I showed loyalty.
Loyalty is a virtue as much as a liability.
Secondly, I was not deposed as CEO of The Southern Legion. I stepped down to have a break, and to pursue a seat on the CPM1. In my mind, both are jobs that require almost full dedication of free time, and I wanted to focus on making sure DUST got better, and not just our little corner of it.
As to not playing the game, I am on a lot. Much of that time is spent communicating. I talk a lot. A boon for a person who wants to represent the community. I talk to various people, new players, even my local. It's shocking how much I do it, even to me. And often sit on voice in channels listening and talking there.

With the opening of elections, my email ([email protected]) has been inundated with e-mails with questions up to the wazoo.
While I'm striving to respond to each and every one, I thought I would take several questions from the pool to put up here. Some I had believed I'd answered before, some I know I have, but some are quite unique in their outlook. Without further ado:
Q. When CEO Pyrex referred to you as a 'DUST DADDY', what did that mean?
A. Simply put, I'm a Real Life Father. I'm surely not the only one, but when it comes to offering a perspective on how to approach CCP and such, it allows me an added layer of experience. Being able to 'scold' someone for doing something wrong, or planning on doing something wrong, without overtly yelling, screaming, abusing, and still maintaining a calm outward appearance, as well as inject a calming influence.
Q. I've seen a lot of your posts, and the length was deterring for me to read the whole thing, but I've heard they are insightful. Have you ever considered doing a tl;dr at the beginning of the posts?
A. I have considered it, and on some of my posts I have attempted to summarize the post outline at either the start, or the bottom, but I found that sometimes, the effects of such ideas are not fully thought through unless it is outlined how each component of an idea affects the gameplay, and hinges on another change.
tl;dr is great for single-facet changes, but a lot of my 'walls of text' are multi-facet designs of many small changes (or big changes) that each work within each other to alter the dynamics of the game, and I would feel remiss in not fully explaining the idea.
Q. Your ideas are unfeasible, your outlook is too grand, do you actually think ANYTHING you have proposed for DUST (even if commuted to Legion) will EVER be implemented?
A. First time I've been accused of having a 'too grand' outlook. But sure, the ideas are grand. One saying I'm fond of, and have quoted on many occasions, "You try for the best, plan for the worst, and do what you can with what you get." So simply put, I always post up 'ideal' scenarios, in my opinion of course, with good gameplay, byplay, game modes, assets etc. Do I expect everything to be implemented? No. But it gives us a goal to try for. Maybe small things could be implemented here and there from the ideas, making the experience better.
Those small things can then lead to bigger things built upon that foundation, evolving the concept of the game, and the 'ideal' shifts focus based on changes made. Gaming growth is something we musst all aspire to, even if we set 'unnattainable goals' so long as we are willing to strive for something, we will always have something around which to build our ideas. However, we plan for the worst (which is getting none of this implemented) and have a store of smaller, easily achieved fixes that could be put in, or some 'low hanging fruit' we could put in. And then we do what we can with what we get. Push each thing we get to the 'best' of what it could be.
Q. I noted on your CPM Vote Match that you valued Community Tools above most other implementation ideas. With the community the way it is, do you think that will actually be a benefit?
A. When it comes to the community, I see that the community is soured. I can't blame them, many things have come from DUST that would cause even rusted on players to lose their faith, but with a full set of community tools for organising tournaments (and advertising them) setting gear limits, vehicle limits, and essentially customizing their own game modes will allow more people to play and practice at a competitive level without taking on the experienced 'PC Crowd' or investing alot of ISK into the game modes to get clone packs. It can be a single guy, with enough ISK to invest, to set up a tournament with scheduled matches, a League with dozens of registered teams, or a simple exhibition match with customised rulesets.
Giving the community the ability to make their own content will help keep the game going between development cycles. This idea goes across from DUST to Legion as well, taking 'some' pressure off CCP Developers Content Creators, and allowing Players to self-generate content alongside their own. Allowing CCP to focus more on getting key 'core' components flowing smoothly.
There were plenty more questions, and I'm spending much of today (and probably the next weeks) going through them. But I will endeavour to respond to each in a timely manner. And if I find even more questions amidst the launcry list that I find interesting enough to share, I will do so! (I'd share them all, but there are just SO many.

Been my campaign slogan for a year now.
It's only referenced to my name, nothing to do with race if anyone cares to bring that up (though gratefully no one has tried in the entire time I've been using it.)

I wrote an entire post on how stupid it was to use this as a slogan and frankly make me concerned about your 'perspective' of things considering you were running for a position of community representatives. but then i released it was all a joke and there fore fine to be racist as long as its done in good humour. On a serious note, i know of a few CPM runners who are African American so cannot wait to see you next to them on stage or in a meeting so i can use your 'catch phrase' in some funny and damaging photoshop fun to highlight what a stupid tag line it was.

Getting remarkably vicious, there.
I seriously doubt it was intended to be racist at all.

I'd like to point out, that my name is The Black Jackal... it doesn't hint at myself being black, nor does it attack African American, or African, or any other dark skinned race. The Black Jackal (and I have previously explained this) translates into the Egyptian God of Death, who was depicted in worship as a Jackal-headed warrior, carved from Obsidian (a black stone).
So if you'd like to try rant me out as a racist person, at least do you research first, and not cry racist any time the word 'Black' is used for anything. After all, it is only a Darker Shade of grey. And not everyone uses the word maliciously.

LOL
I think the candidates are all mature enough to understand what he was insinuating with his tagline. I also think they're fully capable of speaking for themselves if they have a problem with something and don't need the forums to back them up (unless they ask, of course). Sure, it's a bit tongue-in-cheek but I haven't seen much clamor on our super-secret nefarious plot channel discussing how it is bad, let alone full-blown racism. Our plan to take out CCP from the inside is in no way compromised by TBJ's PR schemes. Albeit, the fact that he's Australian has us a little worried as the local wildlife might decrease his life expectancy...
And as always, hail hydra!

Pyrex, I like your videos but sometimes you can be so dense. Jackal has made it perfectly clear he didn't intend for it to be racist. It almost seems like you have some ulterior motive. Maybe trying to get your good friend judge a cpm position? |

No the word black is fine, its a colour.
The slogan 'Once you go Black, you never go black' is the content being discussed here. It is a 'popular culture' reference which focuses hard clear light on the issue of race and acts as a differentiation of such, be it a positive or a negative statement isnt the case, its a stupid slogan for a grown man to use in a public election for a game.
Any other games company would have distanced themselves from this statement WAAAAY back, frankly im amazed CCP didnt make him change it from the get go and again shows quite high insensitivity to a community that hes hoping to represent.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with the slogan.
Now it may be that I don't see racial distinctions in black and white fashions, or that I am from a culture that doesn't have the same controversial eye that other first world countries seem to have, but I find nothing wrong with it.
Firstly, it was never aimed as a racial slur off popular culture (and what is popular in one culture may not be so in another). It was aimed at my own name, which as stated is not about anything racial, but about Polytheism in Ancient Egypt.
Secondly, from what I understand, it's not even a bad 'racial' connection. In fact, from what I understand, it's actually quite a compliment to people of African and other dark skinned descents.
Thirdly, I have had this slogan for a long time. It was the first slogan I had, and it stayed with me, and I revitalised it for CPM1. Until this controversy, not a single person has ever questioned it's alleged racial intent, and I find it quite amusing that it was myself remarking this that sparked such a debate. People say you lay your own traps, well in this case, I seem to have inadvertently trapped someone else.
I am not ashamed of how I put my slogan together, nor am I racist in the slightest (of course you only really have my word on that, but I can't really prove it to you in any form), and the fact that popular culture has defined what is, or is not, racist is beyond a joke. (But going into human prevalence to create controversy from whole cloth is beyond the scope of my training).
I'll spell it out very simply for you Pyrex... and I direct this to you since you seem to be the only one with the gumption to stnd up and make this accusation...
The Black Jackal = Anubis, Egyptian God of Death - Often depicted in sculpture as a Jackal-headed Warrior carved in Obsidian (a black rock).
Once you go Black, you never go back! = Reference to my Name. The 'Black' Jackal. No racial intentions, and catchier than, "Once you go Obsidian, you never go back!" Which is a mouthful, as well as losing the ring it has.
Name + Slogan = Circular reference of name to slogan, and slogan to name. Treat them as such.
Now, I can't say that some people wont have problems with the usage. Anything someone says can have negative impacts to select people. If I had started a campaign on "The Black jackal: Free Cupcakes!" The diabetics could have taken umbrage and said I was being... (diabetist?).
Same could be said if I ran under a slogan like, "A Vote for me is a Vote for Peanut Butter." I'm sure people allergic to Peanut Butter 'could' raise issues. There will ALWAYS be people with issues, but allowing them to hold back what is a catchy saying, that has no malicious, or even benign, racial intent is letting everyone else run your life, choose your words, and is utterly ridiculous.

On that note:
I had a question asked of me earlier that I believe bears repeating here...
Q. Why don't you just report the post and get your thread scrubbed?
A. Because I don't think compromising questions should be swept under the table. They should be confronted. I have repeatedly said that I have nothing to hide, and while I may be accused of being many things (and some may even be true), being racist is not one of them. And I want to stand proudly, and say that I am not. But you can't rebuke something that doesn't exist.
So I keep my thread 'open' and don't report these things, because no matter how much anger is causes me that someone could accuse me of that, it was a member of the community that asked, and as such, the community has a right to know, one way or the other.
