If you was CCP and just spent millions on a game you scrapped and most of your dedicated player base was on PC and another game you was creating couldn't reach it potential on a console would you.....

A: Re create the game on a platform that has no constraints, where 98%+ of your player base is and you don't have to worry about the platforms life cycle within 8 years. Your top game is also on this platform and you want to link both your games together.

B: Re create the game on a platform where you have a tiny player base of players (most of whom hate you now anyway) and most new players won't even know of the game you are trying to link this game with. You have to use a 3rd party network that means you can't realistically link both games because updates, patches and hotfixes would take longer and this platform will be out of date within 8 years and is already out of date by your preferred platforms standard.

This was a bad article that used peak concurrent numbers on launch day for console games in direct comparison to average numbers on older PC games.

It also attempts to combine total game sales between all consoles as a singular figure for overcoming PC sales as a business argument, when the reality is that developing for each individual platform has its own development costs associated with it, thus negating that argument in its entirety. Developing for PC is cheaper and, assuming the numbers are correct, the return on PC would be greater for a lot of games.

I'm all for putting Legion on console (especially the PS4, as it is currently has a massive install base with no games to play on it), but this article was crammed with bullshit.

Conclusions are drawn from the wrong data.

At any given moment hundreds of thousands are playing LoL and DotA 2. Probably more than 1M.

Why do they play games like these on PC? Because they don't exist on console.

The markets reached by BF4 and CoD are pathetic, across all consoles collectively, compared to DotA or LoL even individually.


The reason, then, that FPSes are a hit on console?

They're the only game you can play. RPG, RTS, sim...
The only genre I can think of that is better played on console is fighting games.

just cause something is mediocre enough to have mass market application does not make it a superior platform. Kbm is the standard of excellence. Controller is the outreach to the unsophisticated or inexperienced. Thats why every console FPS is pared with aim assist. Its meant to take the thinking power out of something and dumb it down to shapes and color coded buttons.

You know, I see more Toyota Corolla than BMW M3s around. Does that mean the Toyota is a superior car? No, it just means its a simpler, cheaper car for a simpler, cheaper market base.
