The Learning Coalition is a volunteer organization focussed on teaching players about the game. It is not a Corporation, and it has no specific Alliance affiliations. Players from any Corp can join the Learning Coalition, whether they want to receive guidance, provide guidance to others, or both. There is no clear line between student and instructor, as many advanced students are eager to share what they have learned with new players, and many experienced players seek guidance from other veterans when trying a new role which is unfamiliar to them.
The Learning Coalition chat channel has also become known as the place in game to discuss balance and game mechanics as there are experts there from all aspects of the game. In may ways it has become an in-game extension of the Rookie Training Grounds forum.
Joining the Learning Coalition:
To join the Learning Coalition you need only join the GÇ£Learning CoalitionGÇ¥ chat channel (no quotes).
What is expected of you:
- The only requirement is that you treat other members of the channel with respect.
- If you are a new player, you should be asking questions. We canGÇÖt read your mind or see your screen, so we donGÇÖt know what you are struggling with until you tell us. You should also activate voice in the options menu, and then squad up with experienced players whenever you get the opportunity. Listen to how they communicate and the strategies they use. If you have a mic, ask questions when there is a pause in the action. Let people know what role you are trying to play or suit/weapon you are trying to use, and they may provide you some useful advice to help you along.
- If you are an experienced player you should try to answer questions posted in Learning Coalition. If you have space in your squads and you are feeling patient, then you should invite players from Learning Coalition. Sometimes this will give you a chance to mentor a new player. Sometimes this will allow you to meet a Vet from another Corp who you would not normally interact with. Please try to set Corporate squabbles aside when squadding in Learning Coalition.
Taking training to the next level:
If you wish to do more than just answer questions and squad with new players, you are encouraged to do so. Whether you want to give lectures, take on appendices, or come up with your own training models, you are welcome to operate through the Learning Coalition. You may even charge for your services if you would like, however since most of the training is free, you would need to offer something extra special to get people to pay for your services.
Training Groups:
If you have a group of friends who all want to help out with training new players, you can form a Training Group. Just give yourself a name, and post in this thread about what you offer. Some of the Training Groups that Learning Coalition has hosted in the past include: - The Mango: Founded by Charlotte OGÇÖDell) - BojoGÇÖs School of The Trades: Founded by Bojo The Mighty after disbanding the Corp of the same name.
Corporate Members:
If you run a training Corporation you can apply to join Learning Coalition as a Corporate Member. As a Corporate member your Corporation will be listed as being part of the Leaning Coalition, and the CEO will have a seat on the Learning Coalition Council, which governs the Learning Coalition. (It is not as formal as it sounds.) Feeder Corps do not qualify for Corporate membership, although the management and membership of Feeder Corps are welcome to join Learning Coalition chat as independent members. The Learning Coalition is looking for Corporations that focus on helping new players find their destiny, wherever it might lead.
The advantage to being a Corporate member is that the chat channel can help to supplement the services you already provide. Most small and even medium size training Corporations do not have experienced instructors on at all times, or have instructors experienced in every role. By encouraging all members to join Learning Coalition chat, any questions that canGÇÖt be answered within the Corp, can be extended to the volunteers from many other Corporations in the chat channel.
Current Active Corporate Members: - Immortal Guides: CEO is Renier Gaden (Fox Gaden)
Inactive Corporate Members: - R 0 N 1 N: CEO is Lightning xVx (Corporation is mostly inactive at this time.)
Former Corporate Members: - BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades: Founded by Bojo The Mighty, run by Artificer Ghost when it joined the Learning Coalition, later returned to Bojo The Mighty who disbanded the Corp in a downsizing restructuring which produced the Training Group of the same name. - Learning Coalition College: Founded by Artificer Ghost in order to allow the restructuring of BsotT. Has since been closed. - Terrestrial Suppression Force: Founded by ConantheCimmerian, who is now in another Corp.

Etiquette & Moderation:
We ask that you treat other members of the Learning Coalition chat channel with respect and patience. People who are being exceedingly disruptive or offensive may be removed from the channel.
- Please refrain from posting recruitment ads in Learning Coalition chat. You are free to tell people all about how great your Corp is once they join your squad. If you want them to join your Corp I suggest you be as pleasant and helpful to your squad members as possible.
- Please donGÇÖt spam the chat channel. Spam is the posting of text without meaningful content, or excessive repetition of content for the express purpose of taking up space and pushing previous posts off the top of the screen.
- Please donGÇÖt post excessively explicit sexual comments, as there may be children present.
- Please donGÇÖt post hate speech. We donGÇÖt want to see sexist, racist, or homophobic comments.
- Please donGÇÖt bully or harass people in the Learning Coalition chat channel.
While I give a lot of leeway when it comes to colourful language and figures of speech, excessive violations of these principals will not be tolerated. I have on occasion had to ban people from the channel for various lengths of time. Thankfully this is not a common occurrence.
If you feel someone is violating the rules of etiquette stated above, send an in-game mail to Renier Gaden. Please state the name of the perpetrator, the time the incident occurred, and describe in detail what they did. I often leave Renier Gaden logged on, and if the incident has not scrolled off the top of the channel, I may be able to act immediately. If I donGÇÖt have access to the chat log I will record your complaint, and keep an eye on the person to watch for further violations.
We had a second moderator, but his account is currently inactive.

History:
The Learning Coalition was founded in September of 2013 by four players who were actively involved in training new players, and were regular posters on the Rookie Training Grounds forum. We felt that we could help more people if we shared our resources and supported each other. It would also provide a support structure for others who wanted to train new players to get their operations off the ground. It was basically seen as a coalition of all the independent training outfits.
The four Co-founders were: - Fox Gaden (Renier Gaden): CEO of Immortal Guides. - Artificer Ghost: At the time was CEO of BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades. - Charlotte OGÇÖDell: Head of The Mango, a new player training group. - Bojo The Mighty: Founder and former CEO of BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades.
The Learning Coalition Council, the informal governing body of the Learning Coalition included the 4 founding members as well as CEOGÇÖs of Corporations that joined the Learning Coalition later.
Since the Learning Coalition is very free form, allowing members a great deal of freedom to run their operations in whatever way they feel is appropriate, there is rarely any cause for the Council to meet. The whole idea is to support peopleGÇÖs attempts to provide training and guidance to new players, without getting in their way.

The other day I was put in a match of 6 vs 11, so I was just wondering around. An LAV sees me, I start shooting the Driver with my ScR, he then proceeds to run over me. I jump out of the way into the corner. He comes out, he was a Proto Min Scout with Ishk. Nova Nives(he killed me before, I think he was Parkour Practitioner?), runs up to me and... BOOM. Don't get to close to my Amarr Commando, he carries his Personal Cannon.

Hey! Just wanted to let any newbies looking at the Learning Coalition know that it is probably your best option. You can almost always get a good squad (especially if you play with me, wink wink), and the people are pretty darn helpful.
Also, HUUUUUUUUUUGE props to Mr. Gaden, for keeping the place alive, being the only administrator. Seriously. I will not be re-joining the Coalition as an administrator, but I am very happy to have been a part of it.

Immortal Guides has gotten back into PC for training purposes, but this time I hired a Student Intern to do all the work!
I was just orbiting over one of our PC matches trying to figure out the Orbital Bombardment thing EVE side. Almost got it, but for some reason it was not giving me the 3 minute countdown, even though I was connected to the district and had the team chat channel.

The Learning Alliance is open to:
-Training Corporations.
-Casual Corporations built on Community which do not aspire to PC.
-Aspiring PC Corps that donGÇÖt have the membership to do PC yet. (Will be removed when they become PC active. Expect they would join a PC Alliance at that point.)
The Learning Alliance is not a PC Alliance.
Corporations must have at least 5 active accounts to qualify for membership.
The Learning Alliance will help small Corps grow into big Corps, and give casual Corps more people to squad with, by opening Squads to GÇ£AllianceGÇ¥ in the Squad Finder. Alliance mail will also give members access to my Tip-of-the-Day which has been a real hit within Immortal Guides over the past year. (Members who are not interested can use the GÇ£Mark All As ReadGÇ¥ option to clear their Alliance mail.)

I would suggest putting that information in the OP so new players know. Something like this:
Quote:Is there nobody in the channel? / Is the channel empty?
Recently, Learning Coalition had 50+ members in the channel. Any channel that hits this limit switches the channel to a mode called "Delayed Mode". This means that people will only show up if they have typed something in the chat. So be sure to speak up and say hi! Or something like that.

it sucks we've never have gotten a UI update.. in EVE when you join a channel there is a automated intro, whatever the channel creator wants to write. so when you join the channel the first thing you read is their message, usually telling you about the channel and the rules. we really need this in dust along with character bios, when someone looks you up they can read whatever you wrote there.

Also, I agree with TEBOW BAGGINS. It would be nice if the intro text for a chat channel would display in DUST.

I suggest getting a USB keyboard in order to make full use of the chat channels. In game you can learn to support your squad and be a reliable squad member without ever having to say anything. I used to play with a Sentinel from DUST University named Luc who did not have a mic, but was as reliable as could be. You can get a reputation through your actions alone.

If they did let you cannibalise salvaged suits for parts, it should only be for BPC items, not BPO ones. For example; having a Warbarge sub-system that lets you strip down a suit into a bunch of salvage components (broken heat sinks etc) as well as getting 1 consumable item of some, not all, of the fitted modules and weapons. As the sub-system's level increased, you'd be able to get more consumables from the suit.

That's better than nothing. I like that idea. To make it work you may have to loose most of the suits given, maybe keep just one or two. The better the component the more you have to come across it to keep it. A BPO item takes up to twenty times coming across just to get the chance that it is in the mix to keep. If you keep the BPO then everything else is lost. This means that you went in just for the BPO and to hell with the rest. Sadly, you may get the lesser BPOs far more than the boss ones. |

But you have to give someone the chance to have the chance. If there is no chance to get a BPO, no matter how slim, then I will just use my salvage without change. I have read where Eve players can get blueprints from ships in their game. Why can't we? It may be the same but it sounds as if they can pull BPOs and BPCs off of a ship they steal from others or a ship they salvage. Giving a player a reason to wanting to lose good salvaged suits adds a sense of lose to the game that the player may regret later. " Is losing this worth the whole suit altogether," is a painful question in the hopes of getting the good stuff.

As far as I'm aware, there was discussion about making BPOs salvageable as T2 Salvage but I'm not sure if that came to pass or not.
As for stripping down a salvaged suit for the chance at a BPO; there'd never be a question of "is it worth it" if it came to stripping something like a 'Mauler' Sentinel A-I or Frontline fits since those are given out for daily mission rewards or frequent salvage. Then there's the matter of potentially salvaging a BPO of the Saga-II's Reactive Deflection Field module and then fitting it to HAVs and ADS.

That is why you make it so that you have to come across the BPO a number of times before the chance to get it even comes up. Then you might not even get the BPO but a BPC version of it. For instance, you have to sacrifice 50 suits for a grenade. The percentage is 5% chance to get the BPO. In the 6% to 10% range you would get a BPC version of the BPO. Basically, a "you missed it by that much," situation. Since you can never have a 100% ability at anything there is always a chance to screw up the process to not get your BPO. Plus, the higher the meta score the more of that item that needs to be sacrififced for the chance. |

Hi everyone, I'm new to this game (around 7days). The game is great, dont get me wrong. It takes me back to my half-life/ cs days. Unfortunately, im starting to rethink if i should still be playing. Its been 3 days and not a single victory. More than 2 hours waiting just to join a game. And since im not good at shooting people, i decided to do a logi. Unfortunately, all my 3 characters are out of money. Everyone waving their fancy gear while im stuck using the militia set. The only thing i look forward to after each game are the salvages w/c i know i will never be using. I already sold most of them just to buy some equipment.
Was wondering if anyone here can give a few tips or say something to motivate me to keep playing.
Thanks :) |

If you upgrade your warbarge high enough you can gain ISK And skill points. I spent a long time after I graduated from the academy before I even started reaping the benefits of my patience. I upgrade what I need or want then use each battle as a way to find out how I do best.

And.. i'm back.. Thanks for the tip nyghthawke. Warbarge components are the only salvage i like after each game.
Also, Just got an email from Kaze Eyrou. Joined the Immortal guides. And found out i had a lot of spare sp. so i levelled my nanohive, uplink and repair to 3. Who knew that a 20k suit can generate at least 150k isk per game. Next up, saving for Logi 3.
I think i finally found my purpose in this game: as a squishy healer who restocks, and ressurects people. Thanks to the people at the triage ward for the guide.
Btw, can someone eli5 the alliance mail from Renier re: Planetary Conquest? What are districts? Command points, etc.

Leor Arloc wrote:Btw, can someone eli5 the alliance mail from Renier re: Planetary Conquest? What are districts? Command points, etc. Renier is my EVE character, which I use for administrative tasks such as managing the Corporation, since EVE characters have some extra tools to do that stuff. You could say I am paying $15 a month for better in game mail.
That mail was for people who have been around much longer and have progressed toward end game content. If you are squadding with people and reading the forum you will understand all that stuff well before you are ready to take part in Planetary Conquest. But I will give you a high level overview for context.
Planetary Conquest is where Corporations fight to capture and defend land (Districts) on planets. It is very competitive with the Corps that have the most skilled and best equipped players dominating. But those guys get tired of fighting the same people over and over, so they want more Corps to get into Planetary Conquest. That is why strong Corps are willing to sell or give Districts to Corporations in the Learning Alliance, so that our more advanced members can practice battling in Planetary Conquest districts and train to do it for real some day. Of course not all Corps give us a free pass, so our Corps still have to defend those training districts from some serious attempts from other Corps to take them over. This means developing an A team of top skilled & equipped players to defend the districts, or bringing in Ringers from other Corps when we think our Districts are being threatened.
Part of the Learning Alliance's mandate is to help small Corps grow into strong Corps that can compete in Planetary Conquest, just like Immortal Guides tries to give individual players the support they need to grow strong and compete in PC someday. Recently two of the Learning Alliance Corps that held districts for training purposes merged to form a strong Corp, and they left the Alliance so that they would be allowed to attack and take more districts. (While in the Learning Alliance they could only use districts for training.) So this is a great success for the Learning Alliance, but it means we don't have any districts right now. However I am sure that by the time you are ready to compete at that level we will have picked up some more small Corps, and some of them will have acquired districts for training.
Now a little more history on Planetary Conquest. There were some flaws in the original design of Planetary Conquest which allowed small elite Corps to hold vast numbers of districts and generate massive amounts of ISK using those districts without having to do very much work. Corps that had districts got very very rich, while Corps that did not have districts could not afford to compete in PC. This was changed to turn off the ISK faucet, but the change was a temporary stop-gap measure which resulted in Planetary Conquest not being very profitable or popular right now. The email I sent out regarded the work they are doing to completely overhaul Planetary Conquest to make it fun, profitable (but with limits) and non exploitable.
Hopefully by the time you skill up and learn the tactics and mechanics of DUST these changes will be implemented and Planetary Conquest will be an awesome and fun game mode that you can aspire to participate in.

Wow. I think that way out of my league for now. Wait, let me see if I understand..
So everyone starts first with the public conteacts that provide isk, sp, and salvage. Once you're all set up, you now try faction contracts (faction wars?) . I haven't played them much but, I think this provides you with loyalty points. Other than that, I have no idea. Now, once you think you'Re good enough, you now join planetary conquest which can give you districts. Question: how do you participate in one? And does this mean that only players who have a solid serup are allowed to participate? As for corporate contracts and other contracts, i have no idea what appears there.
Btw, I read somewhere in the forums that they're planning to redesign the dropsuits. Not sure when that will happen but it seems that there will be a lot of xhanges in the near future. =ƒÿä |

Corporate Contracts are where the Planetary Conquest matches appear. These will appear when you attack districts as well as defend your district once you own one.
Other Contracts are testing maps. Just recently, they tested out special portals on the Domination maps.
As for redesigning the dropsuits, there is discussion about it in the Features and Ideas Discussion subforums.

The one thing I would add to what Kaze explained is that Districts are owned by the Corporation, not the individual player, which is why they are called Corporate Contracts in the interface. As a player you only have access to Planetary Conquest (Corporate Contracts) if you are in a Player Owned corporation which owns a district or is attacking a district.
Mechanically you can participate in Planetary Conquest on your first day if you join a Corp which is attacking or defending a district. I have had 3 day old characters in Planetary Conquest training matches I have setup.
However, normally a new player will not have access to Planetary Conquest because unlike other game modes you have to have a Corporate Role, Terrestrial Combat Officer, assigned to you by Corp management, to join a Planetary Conquest match on your own. If you donGÇÖt have the Corporate Role that gives you access, you have to join a squad where the Squad Leader has the Terrestrial Combat Officer Role and is able to queue the whole squad for the match. Because who gets into a Planetary Conquest match is controlled by who the Directors of the Corporation gave the Terrestrial Combat Officer Role to, and who the players with the Terrestrial Combat Officer Role chose to allow in their squad, you canGÇÖt get into a PC match unless your Corp wants you there. For most serious PC matches Corps will only want players who have the best gear and experience.

Don't know where to put this, so I'll share this here (does our corp have an official forum thread? I can't seem to find it):
So far, my character is a month and a week old and this past week was the most interesting so far. - I maxed out my main logi skills (nanohive/needle, repair tool, and drop uplink are now all 5). Currently sitting on 700k sp and pondering on what to level next. I was planning to level scanners, but a lot of people were against it. Does scanning give you WP? - finally found a weapon that I'm comfortable with (assault scrambler rifle) - got an email from chicky chicky BANGBANG saying that I won the corp event by Prisoner 31337 who Contacted me a bit later and sent me the prizes. Honestly, I totally forgot about the event. Was too focused on completing the dailies and trying to max out my skills. Thanks for the ISK, dropsuits, and the weapons. I hope I can use them in the future, but for now, I'm happy with my militia assault scrambler. - joined my first PC. It was really a great experience. All those fancy top end gear, fully coordinated teams, and non stop action. I can't remember the name of the corp that owned the district, but ContraBanJoe was squad leader. He also taught the squad about the EWar setup after the match. I can honestly say that I'm not ready for it yet, but killing people with a militia weapon is SO satisfying. - and to top off this week, I got a Tash Murkon logistics A-1 dropsuit blueprint from a 10 pull. It doesn't have as much equipment slots as my current logi suit, but I don't mind. Still looks awesome.
And that is my story for now.
By the way, thanks for the sniper guides Fox, i learned a lot from them. |

Scanners can give you WP if someone you scan is killed before the scan wares off, but it is a bit spotty. Scanner will probably give you less WP than any other equipment, but it is still incredibly useful for your team to have good scans.

Hi everyone, me again. Right now, i'm at 90k LP for amarr. I may be able to get it to 100k before the PC. Im currently torn between getting the sentinel or the assault blueprints. Would like to ask everyone here for your thoughts on which one i should get. I want the sentinel so that i can finally get a tank suit. I also want the assault to be able to replace the amarr militia set i currently use.
Also, your thoughts and recommendations on what blueprints to get for each race in the loyalty store. Im planning to go galente then caldari, and finally minmitar in getting 100k LP. so far, im eyeing the logistics blueprint for caldari and minmitar. Although i cant say w/c one is better. As for galente, its either the commando, assault or sentinel. |

The Opus assault has been a personal favourite of mine for a while. If you're skilled into Amarr assault, it's quite effective. The sentinel has an HMG though.
I wouldn't recommend the Gal sentinel unless you really like forge guns. HMG sentinels are more general purpose, IMHO. The Spartan assault is kind of meh. I'd personally recommend the Galmando - it comes equipped with a free plasma cannon and is pretty much indisputably the best placon suit in the game.
Cal/Min assaults are both fairly useful. Minlogi is an excellent all-round logi - I would say it's better than the Callogi.

As for galente, its either the commando, assault or sentinel.
Can't really speak for any of the other suits, but as for the Logi suits. If you're looking to run a versatile logistics suit, go Minmatar.
You'll sacrifice HP, but your CPU/PG is higher than Caldari (they are kind of crippled in that respect right now). Plus the bonus is repair tool rate and distance. It's more useful than the Caldari nanohive/needle bonus. You'll get more WP by far, and you can stay safe while repping easier with the increased rep range. With a proto rep tool, I can rep from across most hallways, and avoid crossfire because of it.
But understand, it is not meant to be a slayer logi setup. You'll want to run with a heavy, or stick with your team. If you go solo, then use your speed to your advantage. I have a speedy fit with Kin Cats, to run in uplinks quickly if my team is being pushed out of an area.
So MinLogi all the way

Im currently torn between getting the sentinel or the assault blueprints. Would like to ask everyone here for your thoughts on which one i should get. I want the sentinel so that i can finally get a tank suit. I also want the assault to be able to replace the amarr militia set i currently use.

I'd hold off on anyone speccing Logi at the moment, since Ratatti has said he plans to give Logi's another look at and balance, so CalLogi should be getting a fitting increase.

Quite a few returning players have joined my Corp this week. Essentially new players with 2 to 2.5 years of passive skill points saved up while they were away. It is an interesting trend.

I wonder if the Eve players know that some of the additions to their game is to help the other two, us and the new Valkyrie. Take the new citadel ship. Many of the pilots do not see that its best attribute is for planet domination. Imagine the look on a Duster's face when they look to the heavens and see this monster floating in their sky. Then all hell breaks loose as heaven and earth go to war over which corps owns the districts or even the planet. |

So.. here's what been keeping me busy lately:
- I still haven't brought anything with the 100K Amarr LP I have. Can't decide on what to buy since they all look so good. Which is why I decided to play for the other factions in FW.
- I have finally reached my 180M ISK target (as someone said in another post here in the forums, free suits really are OP). Now going for 200M. I plan to check the Player Trading and buy some blueprints. Any recommendations from who I can buy stuff? Also, are there any sites I can check that have the details on the APEX and LP dropsuits (just the equipment. if there are stats, then much better)? I keep seeing people display the suit name, but I have no idea on what the they're equipped with.
- I'm currently enjoying counter sniping. Once I see a friendly get killed by a sniper, I run to the nearest supply depot, grab my scanner gear, find where that person is hiding, switch to militia sniper and kill them. XD
- I currently hate those suits that jump like there's no such thing as gravity. any tips on how to deal with them? |

If you press triangle on any item in the store, it should bring up the stats and info on it. For APEX suits, this includes the fitted weapons, modules and equipment. Anything on an APEX suit is all standard tier gear.

Get a feel for the arc so you can predict their flight path. Then aim for where they are going to be and rake them from crotch to a head shot as they fall through your line of fire.
Also anticipate that they are going to fire at the top of their arc, so sidestep, then fire. It will help mess up their aim, and is especially effective at avoiding Plasma Cannon rounds.

Anticipating the arrival of jumpy suits is really the only way you can deal with them.
That goes for both anticipating where they're landing and anticipating what suits are jumpy suits. If they're carrying a plasma cannon or mass driver, chances are high.

Policy Change:
I still do not allow Corp ads in Learning Coalition chat, but...
I will allow ads for useful services, as long as they are posted no more than once per hour.
Services are things like Trade Chat channels, FW channels, Third Party broker services, that sort of thing.

The Learning Coalition chat channel was created by my EVE character, Renier Gaden, so it will continue to exist when DUST 514 is shut down. If the new game shares chat channels with EVE, then the Learning Coalition will continue to exist.
Immortal Guides is also run by Renier Gaden, so again, if the new game shares Corporations with EVE, the this training Corporation will continue to exist.
Likewise, the Learning Alliance exists in EVE. If there is an Alliance link to EVE, it will be there.
I had already intended to purchase a gaming PC in June or July, so I will be involved in this new New Eden FPS game.
Hopefully I will be able to port my character name as well.
