The Learning Coalition is a volunteer organization focussed on teaching players about the game. It is not a Corporation, and it has no specific Alliance affiliations. Players from any Corp can join the Learning Coalition, whether they want to receive guidance, provide guidance to others, or both. There is no clear line between student and instructor, as many advanced students are eager to share what they have learned with new players, and many experienced players seek guidance from other veterans when trying a new role which is unfamiliar to them.
The Learning Coalition chat channel has also become known as the place in game to discuss balance and game mechanics as there are experts there from all aspects of the game. In may ways it has become an in-game extension of the Rookie Training Grounds forum.
Joining the Learning Coalition:
To join the Learning Coalition you need only join the GÇ£Learning CoalitionGÇ¥ chat channel (no quotes).
What is expected of you:
- The only requirement is that you treat other members of the channel with respect.
- If you are a new player, you should be asking questions. We canGÇÖt read your mind or see your screen, so we donGÇÖt know what you are struggling with until you tell us. You should also activate voice in the options menu, and then squad up with experienced players whenever you get the opportunity. Listen to how they communicate and the strategies they use. If you have a mic, ask questions when there is a pause in the action. Let people know what role you are trying to play or suit/weapon you are trying to use, and they may provide you some useful advice to help you along.
- If you are an experienced player you should try to answer questions posted in Learning Coalition. If you have space in your squads and you are feeling patient, then you should invite players from Learning Coalition. Sometimes this will give you a chance to mentor a new player. Sometimes this will allow you to meet a Vet from another Corp who you would not normally interact with. Please try to set Corporate squabbles aside when squadding in Learning Coalition.
Taking training to the next level:
If you wish to do more than just answer questions and squad with new players, you are encouraged to do so. Whether you want to give lectures, take on appendices, or come up with your own training models, you are welcome to operate through the Learning Coalition. You may even charge for your services if you would like, however since most of the training is free, you would need to offer something extra special to get people to pay for your services.
Training Groups:
If you have a group of friends who all want to help out with training new players, you can form a Training Group. Just give yourself a name, and post in this thread about what you offer. Some of the Training Groups that Learning Coalition has hosted in the past include: - The Mango: Founded by Charlotte OGÇÖDell) - BojoGÇÖs School of The Trades: Founded by Bojo The Mighty after disbanding the Corp of the same name.
Corporate Members:
If you run a training Corporation you can apply to join Learning Coalition as a Corporate Member. As a Corporate member your Corporation will be listed as being part of the Leaning Coalition, and the CEO will have a seat on the Learning Coalition Council, which governs the Learning Coalition. (It is not as formal as it sounds.) Feeder Corps do not qualify for Corporate membership, although the management and membership of Feeder Corps are welcome to join Learning Coalition chat as independent members. The Learning Coalition is looking for Corporations that focus on helping new players find their destiny, wherever it might lead.
The advantage to being a Corporate member is that the chat channel can help to supplement the services you already provide. Most small and even medium size training Corporations do not have experienced instructors on at all times, or have instructors experienced in every role. By encouraging all members to join Learning Coalition chat, any questions that canGÇÖt be answered within the Corp, can be extended to the volunteers from many other Corporations in the chat channel.
Current Active Corporate Members: - Immortal Guides: CEO is Renier Gaden (Fox Gaden)
Inactive Corporate Members: - R 0 N 1 N: CEO is Lightning xVx (Corporation is mostly inactive at this time.)
Former Corporate Members: - BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades: Founded by Bojo The Mighty, run by Artificer Ghost when it joined the Learning Coalition, later returned to Bojo The Mighty who disbanded the Corp in a downsizing restructuring which produced the Training Group of the same name. - Learning Coalition College: Founded by Artificer Ghost in order to allow the restructuring of BsotT. Has since been closed. - Terrestrial Suppression Force: Founded by ConantheCimmerian, who is now in another Corp.

Etiquette & Moderation:
We ask that you treat other members of the Learning Coalition chat channel with respect and patience. People who are being exceedingly disruptive or offensive may be removed from the channel.
- Please refrain from posting recruitment ads in Learning Coalition chat. You are free to tell people all about how great your Corp is once they join your squad. If you want them to join your Corp I suggest you be as pleasant and helpful to your squad members as possible.
- Please donGÇÖt spam the chat channel. Spam is the posting of text without meaningful content, or excessive repetition of content for the express purpose of taking up space and pushing previous posts off the top of the screen.
- Please donGÇÖt post excessively explicit sexual comments, as there may be children present.
- Please donGÇÖt post hate speech. We donGÇÖt want to see sexist, racist, or homophobic comments.
- Please donGÇÖt bully or harass people in the Learning Coalition chat channel.
While I give a lot of leeway when it comes to colourful language and figures of speech, excessive violations of these principals will not be tolerated. I have on occasion had to ban people from the channel for various lengths of time. Thankfully this is not a common occurrence.
If you feel someone is violating the rules of etiquette stated above, send an in-game mail to Renier Gaden. Please state the name of the perpetrator, the time the incident occurred, and describe in detail what they did. I often leave Renier Gaden logged on, and if the incident has not scrolled off the top of the channel, I may be able to act immediately. If I donGÇÖt have access to the chat log I will record your complaint, and keep an eye on the person to watch for further violations.
We had a second moderator, but his account is currently inactive.

History:
The Learning Coalition was founded in September of 2013 by four players who were actively involved in training new players, and were regular posters on the Rookie Training Grounds forum. We felt that we could help more people if we shared our resources and supported each other. It would also provide a support structure for others who wanted to train new players to get their operations off the ground. It was basically seen as a coalition of all the independent training outfits.
The four Co-founders were: - Fox Gaden (Renier Gaden): CEO of Immortal Guides. - Artificer Ghost: At the time was CEO of BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades. - Charlotte OGÇÖDell: Head of The Mango, a new player training group. - Bojo The Mighty: Founder and former CEO of BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades.
The Learning Coalition Council, the informal governing body of the Learning Coalition included the 4 founding members as well as CEOGÇÖs of Corporations that joined the Learning Coalition later.
Since the Learning Coalition is very free form, allowing members a great deal of freedom to run their operations in whatever way they feel is appropriate, there is rarely any cause for the Council to meet. The whole idea is to support peopleGÇÖs attempts to provide training and guidance to new players, without getting in their way.

Immortal Guides has gotten back into PC for training purposes, but this time I hired a Student Intern to do all the work!
I was just orbiting over one of our PC matches trying to figure out the Orbital Bombardment thing EVE side. Almost got it, but for some reason it was not giving me the 3 minute countdown, even though I was connected to the district and had the team chat channel.

Announcing the Learning Alliance!
The Learning Alliance is an alliance of training Corporations. Joining the Learning Alliance will allow other Corps to share Alliance Chat, Alliance Mail, and Alliance Squads in the Squad finder with other Learning Coalition Corps.
It is not necessary for a Corp or player to be a member of the Learning Alliance to be a member of the Learning Coalition, but any Corp which is a Member of the Learning Coalition may request membership in the Learning Alliance.

The Learning Alliance is open to:
-Training Corporations.
-Casual Corporations built on Community which do not aspire to PC.
-Aspiring PC Corps that donGÇÖt have the membership to do PC yet. (Will be removed when they become PC active. Expect they would join a PC Alliance at that point.)
The Learning Alliance is not a PC Alliance.
Corporations must have at least 5 active accounts to qualify for membership.
The Learning Alliance will help small Corps grow into big Corps, and give casual Corps more people to squad with, by opening Squads to GÇ£AllianceGÇ¥ in the Squad Finder. Alliance mail will also give members access to my Tip-of-the-Day which has been a real hit within Immortal Guides over the past year. (Members who are not interested can use the GÇ£Mark All As ReadGÇ¥ option to clear their Alliance mail.)

What a benchmark! Learning Coalition finally hit delayed mode. I would suggest putting that information in the OP so new players know. Something like this: Quote:Is there nobody in the channel? / Is the channel empty?
Recently, Learning Coalition had 50+ members in the channel. Any channel that hits this limit switches the channel to a mode called "Delayed Mode". This means that people will only show up if they have typed something in the chat. So be sure to speak up and say hi! Or something like that. That was vary well written, so I used it as i, in post 6. Anyone reading through the thread will see where it came from.
Also, I agree with TEBOW BAGGINS. It would be nice if the intro text for a chat channel would display in DUST.

I suggest getting a USB keyboard in order to make full use of the chat channels. In game you can learn to support your squad and be a reliable squad member without ever having to say anything. My thought is the militia fittings are permanent so I understand why they can't be removed. The salvage suits are not so I want to be able to break them down to take what I want from them to keep the power goodies I find. If you salvage a Militia Grenade BPO you can edit a fit, select the Grenades slot, chose Replace, and select the Militia Grenade BPO from your Assets list.
If you salvage a pre-made fit such as an APEX suit, the Grenades in that fit are only usable in that fit. Only the pre-made fit will appear in your assets. The pre-made fits are not broken down into their component parts.

Leor Arloc wrote:Btw, can someone eli5 the alliance mail from Renier re: Planetary Conquest? What are districts? Command points, etc. Renier is my EVE character, which I use for administrative tasks such as managing the Corporation, since EVE characters have some extra tools to do that stuff. You could say I am paying $15 a month for better in game mail.
That mail was for people who have been around much longer and have progressed toward end game content. If you are squadding with people and reading the forum you will understand all that stuff well before you are ready to take part in Planetary Conquest. But I will give you a high level overview for context.
Planetary Conquest is where Corporations fight to capture and defend land (Districts) on planets. It is very competitive with the Corps that have the most skilled and best equipped players dominating. But those guys get tired of fighting the same people over and over, so they want more Corps to get into Planetary Conquest. That is why strong Corps are willing to sell or give Districts to Corporations in the Learning Alliance, so that our more advanced members can practice battling in Planetary Conquest districts and train to do it for real some day. Of course not all Corps give us a free pass, so our Corps still have to defend those training districts from some serious attempts from other Corps to take them over. This means developing an A team of top skilled & equipped players to defend the districts, or bringing in Ringers from other Corps when we think our Districts are being threatened.
Part of the Learning Alliance's mandate is to help small Corps grow into strong Corps that can compete in Planetary Conquest, just like Immortal Guides tries to give individual players the support they need to grow strong and compete in PC someday. Recently two of the Learning Alliance Corps that held districts for training purposes merged to form a strong Corp, and they left the Alliance so that they would be allowed to attack and take more districts. (While in the Learning Alliance they could only use districts for training.) So this is a great success for the Learning Alliance, but it means we don't have any districts right now. However I am sure that by the time you are ready to compete at that level we will have picked up some more small Corps, and some of them will have acquired districts for training.
Now a little more history on Planetary Conquest. There were some flaws in the original design of Planetary Conquest which allowed small elite Corps to hold vast numbers of districts and generate massive amounts of ISK using those districts without having to do very much work. Corps that had districts got very very rich, while Corps that did not have districts could not afford to compete in PC. This was changed to turn off the ISK faucet, but the change was a temporary stop-gap measure which resulted in Planetary Conquest not being very profitable or popular right now. The email I sent out regarded the work they are doing to completely overhaul Planetary Conquest to make it fun, profitable (but with limits) and non exploitable.
Hopefully by the time you skill up and learn the tactics and mechanics of DUST these changes will be implemented and Planetary Conquest will be an awesome and fun game mode that you can aspire to participate in.

The one thing I would add to what Kaze explained is that Districts are owned by the Corporation, not the individual player, which is why they are called Corporate Contracts in the interface. As a player you only have access to Planetary Conquest (Corporate Contracts) if you are in a Player Owned corporation which owns a district or is attacking a district.
Mechanically you can participate in Planetary Conquest on your first day if you join a Corp which is attacking or defending a district. I have had 3 day old characters in Planetary Conquest training matches I have setup.
However, normally a new player will not have access to Planetary Conquest because unlike other game modes you have to have a Corporate Role, Terrestrial Combat Officer, assigned to you by Corp management, to join a Planetary Conquest match on your own. If you donGÇÖt have the Corporate Role that gives you access, you have to join a squad where the Squad Leader has the Terrestrial Combat Officer Role and is able to queue the whole squad for the match. Because who gets into a Planetary Conquest match is controlled by who the Directors of the Corporation gave the Terrestrial Combat Officer Role to, and who the players with the Terrestrial Combat Officer Role chose to allow in their squad, you canGÇÖt get into a PC match unless your Corp wants you there. For most serious PC matches Corps will only want players who have the best gear and experience.

slightly off topic, I have a temp EVE and I want to put him in my corp so I can find permanent leaders. how do I find my Dust corps In the EVE game? Any help is a light in the dark. Yes, I am a total noob on this point. Bring up the People & Places interface, set it to Corporation, and do a search for your Corporation.
Or join a chat channel that has members of your Corp in it, click on a Corp member and select Show Info, then click their Corp logo to show the Corp, then hit Apply to Corp.

Scanners can give you WP if someone you scan is killed before the scan wares off, but it is a bit spotty. Scanner will probably give you less WP than any other equipment, but it is still incredibly useful for your team to have good scans.

Get a feel for the arc so you can predict their flight path. Then aim for where they are going to be and rake them from crotch to a head shot as they fall through your line of fire.
Also anticipate that they are going to fire at the top of their arc, so sidestep, then fire. It will help mess up their aim, and is especially effective at avoiding Plasma Cannon rounds.

Policy Change:
I still do not allow Corp ads in Learning Coalition chat, but...
I will allow ads for useful services, as long as they are posted no more than once per hour.
Services are things like Trade Chat channels, FW channels, Third Party broker services, that sort of thing.

The Learning Coalition chat channel was created by my EVE character, Renier Gaden, so it will continue to exist when DUST 514 is shut down. If the new game shares chat channels with EVE, then the Learning Coalition will continue to exist.
Immortal Guides is also run by Renier Gaden, so again, if the new game shares Corporations with EVE, the this training Corporation will continue to exist.
Likewise, the Learning Alliance exists in EVE. If there is an Alliance link to EVE, it will be there.
I had already intended to purchase a gaming PC in June or July, so I will be involved in this new New Eden FPS game.
Hopefully I will be able to port my character name as well.
