I quickly became a fully proto Amarr heavy after 1.8 with all the SP events and such.
Ever since I picked up the Burst I've loved it. However recently I have noticed that, in Planetary Conquest with reps on both me and the enemy heavy, I got him down to almost nothing before he killed me. However I don't remember which one he was using.
I can tell you it's a fact that the Six Kin Burst HMG does more DPS than the Boundless. However I'm starting to wonder if it's worth using in certain situations.
What do you think? Was it the time between bursts that got me killed in that PC, was it that I was at a fair 10 or 15 m distance from him? Or maybe he got a better couple headshots on me?
The better question is do you think the Six Kin is superior to the Boundless?

I don't get lag. Ever.
The recent events of lag effecting everyone have minimally even phased me. I think I recall one occasion in PC where an enemy heavy slightly rubber banded away and killed me. It only happened that once.
Himiko Kuronaga wrote: In heavy vs heavy fights the burst is king. Against faster strafing targets, the boundless wins out.
Depends on the fight. If the enemy is deploying a ton of heavy suits, the burst is more than worth using.
Wise words. You are right because Minmatar have either killed or momentarily evaded me, can't remember which, when I used the Six Kin.
However I think if you're like me, and have precise hand-eye-coordination, you can still get the scouts and mediums.

Atiim wrote:Well to answer your 2nd paragraph, you would be correct. Burst HMGs aren't worth using over the Normal or Assault variant in certain situations, which is good considering how it's a specialized variant of the Normal HMG; encouraging variety in your fittings. Well there are many more factors that could have caused you to lose the gunfight, such as:
- Damage Modifiers - Was he running Damage Modifiers? If so, how many?
- Proficiency Skill - How high is his proficiency skill?
- Core Skills - What does his Dropsuit Shield and Armor Upgrades look like?
- Which Sentinel? Some have a resistance to Projectile Weaponry, which could have given him the upper hand.
- Dropsuit Fitting? - What was he using in his fitting?
- Logistics Support? - Was there a Logistics repairing him as well? What race?
- Accuracy - Did you land all of your shots? Was the Sentinel strafing?
- Movement & Positioning - We're you strafing?
As for which is superior, it's hard to say as I haven't used an HMG in a while. However it's difficult to completely assess which is better, as they all excel in different situations, and perform poorly in others. I'd say it boils down to personal preference.
I don't use the Assault. The DPS at close range drives me nuts, and the range increase is only 20 meters. I'd rather switch to my Scrambler Pistol.
As for your technical questions.
Irrelevant:
- Couldn't have been damage mods. Extenders would've just made him weaker, I use two complex heavy mods.
- Mine is at 5 so this is also irrelevant.
- Both of mine are also at 5.
- I don't know why you even asked this question because I said in the OP I was Amarr. I don't remember if he was Gallente or Amarr but he couldn't have been anything else.
Relevant:
- He could've had max armor and if he was Gallente it would've made a difference
- His Logi(s) were behind cover, and he could've had more than one, or been standing on a triage hive. My Logi was Minmatar and was using a Core Focused.
- I still might have to get my headshots and timing of the bursts more accurate. However we were both not strafing.
Yeah, I think I just realized a portion of his body was around the corner behind cover, although I still hit his entire upper hitbox.

For a 20 m range increase? I'd rather just use my ScP and close in the distance, or once his armor's gone the standard HMG would still do it's job.

Ryme Intrinseca wrote:Why does 'assault' mean 'longer range' for HMG, when it usually means shorter range? E.g. ACR, ScR, arguably RR (think ARR technically has same range as regular RR but worse scope, so is less of a long range weapon in practice).
That kind of lol Eve lore logical thinking is ruining this game.

Eve doesn't even use those terms or rules.
No, it's lol eve lore that turned into lol dust lore.
Think about it. Everything Minmatar must be speed tanked. Every Minmatar weapon should be projectile or explosive.
Now everything assault must be low damage high RoF? Assault is just a general term, like Assault Dropship. We don't have to stick to literal english definitions for everything in New Eden.
I'm even willing to bet you the Spanish or Chinese versions of "Assault Heavy Machine Gun" don't even mean the same thing in English.

It's really annoying when you see red and you are out of effective range . A few days ago I went 45/3 with Freedom Assault.
All I know is I deleted the fitting because it's useless in PC. What you are talking about is "pub tactics" just like my perma-hardened Gunnlogi with 3 shield hardeners that are constantly on.
I got my ass handed to me in PC when I used an Assault HMG on the Bridge map, because a Scout came up and it was useless in CQC.
