Soraya Xel wrote:Yeah, I mean, I'm really kinda baffled where this conversation is going, to be really honest. I'm very mystified where people assume every conversation between future CPM members should be public, when a large part of the purpose of the CPM is so CCP can talk to players who are bound by the NDA, and can't talk about things with everyone else. That's like... part of the job description.
Then, I start to get the impression that some people in this forum post assume everything I say must be in public? I mean, I discuss Planetary Conquest matches with my alliance members in private. Are you guys worried because that's a private conversation with certain DUST players, are you aren't invited to participate?
What exactly is your expectation of the CPM? And is it something you feel is reasonable for the job in question? I intend to tell the public everything I possibly can about my CPM term, and keep them informed, but I don't think any CPM candidates are expected to give up their ability to speak privately ever either.
Don't stress about it too much. You have every right to speak privately with whoever the **** you want, and no one should make you feel otherwise. This is a completely unnecessary dramafest over a completely innocuous -SOCIAL- channel for the purposes of the candidates to get to know each other in a safe, relaxed setting. It's sad that some tinfoilers have tried to hijack something that's really positive and ruin it with dumb labels like "elitist" and stir up a bunch of silly allegations, and that others are using this as an opportunity for moral grandstanding.
When I ran for CSM7 a lot of the other candidates were friendly and supportive and we got to know each other well, but we never had something as upfront as an actual static gathering spot where we could come and talk about our shared experience with other people going through the same situation. I'm actually really, really proud that the CPM1 candidates are able to get along this well, it speaks immensely well of the quality of the candidate pool and their maturity. Its a really good sign that regardless of who gets elected CPM1 will begin their term as a cooperative, professional entity ready to get to work.
So please, lets all cut the horseshit about "elitism" and "above the players" and "clics" and other ridiculous nonsense. Nothing could be further from the truth, and in fact that a social channel even exists is a demonstration of the candidates inclusiveness and maturity.
If you're not a candidate and you're not invited, HTFU and stop crying about it (I'm looking at you, BAMM HAVOC). If you really want to hang out in a social channel for fellow candidates, join the race. If that's too much work, simply join any of the other myriad channels that exist to provide the player community with free and unfettered access to the candidates.

They were just a few simple requests, namely a point of contact within the correct context and atmosphere so that I may represent the cpm1 hopefuls in the light they wish to be seen in, and not the "newly created" open channel which is a total fluster cluck and a knee jerk reaction to our very own tin foil hat peddler pyrex .
Relax bro, I was just giving you a hard time because I thought you of all people would be able to have a sense of humor about the situation. There was nothing wrong with asking or being curious about it.
That said, your interest in media representation is exactly why you weren't brought into the channel, because its not really for any kind of official business. It's a social mixer, nothing more. Not for campaigning, not for discussing hot issues, not for networking or anything like that. Just a place for people to shoot the breeze and say hello to others going through the same experience together. And frankly, the candidates deserve a place to do this amongst themselves.

So help me BAMM you better not run for CPM just to get an invite to a silly Skype channel. You know better than this!!

XxGhazbaranxX wrote: "We have non-candidates but only the ones we deem are good enough to be in it..." Elitist definition right there. Either it's open to non CPM candidates or it's not. When you start picking and choosing it starts being elitist.
Dude he was talking about the IN-GAME CPM1 candidate channel, which is open access and has candidates and non-candidates alike. There's no need to blow this out of proportion. For what its worth, as Soraya clearly pointed out the private channel that everyone is bitching about is indeed -only- CPM1 candidates, save for myself who is literally the only individual to have both served on the CPM and survived elections successfully before. All I'm really there for is to field simple questions from time to time, I mostly let them chitchat amongst themselves.
At the end of the day this is like complaining that the girl scouts are elitist because they don't allow boys, or that the Boys and Girls club is elitist because it doesnt allow adult men to hang out there on weekdays after school hours. To swat down the existence of a social channel is literally to argue that the candidates should be denied their god-given right to make friends and have conversations with similar people going through similar experiences.
Whenever the CPM puts an official stamp on something and says "this is where we are conducting our business and engaging the public", THAN the community has every right to be critical of how transparent that work environment is and to expect openness from their representatives.
The community is NOT however entitled to be present for every moment of a CPM/ CPM hopeful's social life. All the more important to squash this notion early, before it escalates and we have morons demanding that CPM members Soundcloud every personal cell phone call because THE PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT THEIR PLANS ARE FOR THE WEEKEND.

Fine. We shall instead install video cameras throughout your house (and all the other candidates too) and just broadcast your lives on twitch, like reality TV. You will be allowed dinner dates out on the town w/ friends, but only when accompanied by a certified third-party media escort to document the experience and make sure it is uploaded as well.
I'm sure you will be happy to oblige because clearly the only reason you would ever dream of privacy is because YOU MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO HIDE |
