The removal of the slowdown penalty has definitely buffed scout survivability. |

Are there any other focused changes that could have a similar effect on quality of gameplay?
I'd say yes, first would be to ELO matchmaking based strictly on operator performance relative to peers - assuming that matchmaking is server-side.
Next to that would be removing the passive in-match sp charity and replacing it with moderately improved kill/assist bonuses and significantly improved support bonuses. Not sure if that's hotfixable, tbh. But the increased feeling of personal responsibility and mercs earning what they take would significantly deepen the quality of immersion and investment experienced by DUST players.
Tho the platform is limited and the implementation of FPS mechanics are far from ideal, a string of good decisions instituted in DUST could give Legion a run for it's money. Done right, in the future we would see peeps having serious conversations about which game had the better gameplay.
Do you have any examples of where ELO is used to match players against each other in team vs. team environments? Normally it's used in 1v1 scenarios, and diagnosing contributions for one among many takes a MUCH different kind of math. Just because its popular for chess, doesn't mean it works here. |

Mechwarrior Onlime matchmaker was ELO based (before the devs broke it), the battles were even more onsided than Dust protostomping. Tbh ELO is not my preference, but it is a term everybody understands. Imo the primary matchmaking variable should be player end-of-match ranking relative to peers.
Define peers? You mean players in the game that was just played? |
