All in Planetside 2. This is how you attract elite level FPS players. I get trying to redo the bad parts of FPS but these aren't them. PS2 leads the MMOFPS pack for a reason, CCP get on board or get left behind. AGAIN. |

Add always on Friendly Fire to that...no real tactical game can do without it. If a casual game like PS2 knows how important FF is, well........

we arent trying to stir up revolt, but many are excited about PS2 with good reason. it even has the jet class and troop carriers in addition to one-man three wheelers to get around with...with just a touch of persistence with territory and resource pts.
the best gaming advice we have received was from Hayden Dingman from PC Gamer regarding the bait & switch that goes on so much in the industry: 'Play a game when it has the features you want, not because it might one day have those features.'
our blog will switch over to PS2 a month before the release and may return to Legion provided its worthy. its obvious CCP has lots of work to do.

PS2 isn't dying because it has prox chat, huge battles, and teamspeak. It's dying because battles don't mean anything. And I would say that Legion will have meaningful battles in spades if CCP Z's presentation hadn't happened.
Wouldn't teamspeak just get cluttered with random garbage? I have a hard time listening to teamspeak in a sixteen man pub. I can't imagine it with more people. Prox chat would be useful for calling out to Logis and such.

Pretty much this. This video seems like a very clear indication on what's wrong with PS2. If anything, the problems that PS2 is experiencing right now look very familiar. It's as if Dust's problems have somehow translated over to PS2. Funny.

1. i have heard that, hopefully they add more persistence since thats kind of where gaming is going anyway.
2. console players wont use ts, chat will be in the game client and use a headset.
3. my point is dust does not have them and not including basic features like this gets ur game ignored. |

1. I don't play PS2, but if they can do that, good for them.
2. The use of TS is not exclusive to PC. Console users, or at least those with an Android phone or a computer nearby, can use it as well to their advantage. The only thing that TS can't do is proximity chat and that's it. Beyond that, it's a tool that trumps all means of communication due to its flexibility.
3. Good point.

it looks like u have a problem with basic comprehension (reading) so i'll humor u one last time. dont be silly, do you use TS on dust? ur "console players use ts more than the game client" claim is flat out wrong. PS2 is much further along than dust/legion in regards to being a great MMOFPS so its what i'm going to play until CCP gets their head out of their ass. if they never do? i'll never come back. simple. |

1: I have, yes. I've done it for a lot of console games. Your point?
2: no, I didn't say that, I said that people do use it. Your own insult just turned on you it seems.
3: No, it's not. It's not even a good MMOFPS. Yes, it has basic things that every game should have (because sadly figuring stuff out on your own doesn't cut it anymore), but as far as it being a good game is just no. It's as bad as dust, and the only thing keeping it going is noobs who thinks otherwise.

They're moving from a 2D HUD to a 3D HUD. Apparently according to CCP MC Peanut the 3D HUD seems to help with code optimization compared to a 2D HUD.

We've added a new HUD system that allows us to more easily, on the content side, add things like a 'compass' without the direct support of Engineers. There was a great discussion on this in another thread and there were a lot of cool ideas that I've passed onto the team. Feel free to pose your own specific ideas/requests and I'll try my best to explain how it could/could not be done. I can't make any promises that it *will* be done. But I can say we've already had lots of feedback that has made us re-think things. |

I'm of the opinion that Legion should steal the best ideas from other games, which leaves more time to put in the stuff that other games haven't thought of.

Sure, I can give them a stab
Prox Chat The Prox Chat system itself is out of the scope of my ability to discuss. I can say that if there is a Prox Chat system, we would probably be able to notify who is chatting with a 3D Icon state. And if we gave you the ability to mute people, we could probably use it to show they are both muted, but trying to say something. If we implement this 3D Icon system right (we are in progress with that), we should do it in a way that we can have visual states that can overlap--meaning we don't need to create a visual permutation for every combination of things (muted + talking for example). Of course there is a simpler way to handle this--just have multiple 3D Icons in the same spot.
Massive Battles Massive Battles is more a design and performance thing--not something I can speak about. But if we increased the number of players on the battlefield, we would need to look at the interface elements and make sure they are still use-able.
VR Training Currently, I think it should be possible to create a training level where a player has access to practice on all items and equipment--I can't really speak on why or why not, though. What I can say is that since we've moved the UI to 3D it would be easier to create custom training tips and tutorials since the UI can be easily edited with client side visual scripting (Kismet). In the Menus thread there was a request for tooltips--I don't see a reason why we can't do 3d Tooltips on things. The limitation would be we need some attachment point that is persistent across the item type (such as the Muzzle for a weapon--which includes an attachment point).
Prone and Friendly Fire These are both possible but are in the realm of the gameplay people.

I've never understood why anyone doesn't want to see anyone go prone in a first-person shooter. I remember back when Ghost Recon was still a thing on the PC and nobody complained about it allowing prone.

Prone has the more common issues, first being head glitching, In most games the FPS camera is higher than the character's head. Second is a rapid to prone has caused hit box issues and turns into a 'crutch' mechanic. While I am not against prone it needs to have proper care into it.
Proximity chat if done poorly has been many games and I feel the feature is not worth it. I rather see effort push forward into the voice channel management to allow commands and squad commands and voice hierarchy.
VR training rooms however are worth it as its a good will and training means.

Agree. This is exactly why I mentioned slowing the mechanic way down so "rapid to prone" is not possible. Make it a detriment in combat and you fix the dolphin diving foolishness. Prone isn't a problem as much as its poor implementation.
IMO prox chat is a must even if its just for allies. No military unit would cut off communication between squads.
VR Training has been a staple suggestion since the game dropped, that one''s pretty much a no-brainer. |

I remember when they removed prone in Battlefield Bad Company. Good God, the outrage.
There's other uses for prone than sniping and it should definitely be in there (as long as it's properly implemented. There has to be a small downside to it).
Proximity chat I'm not so sure about. Everyone will be using Teamspeak anyway, and I would assume that Legion-bunnies have proper comms in their suits. Shouting at people shouldn't be necessary (unless you want to sneak up on people and scare the bejeezus out of them. Can be hilarious in games like DayZ).
VR training is a no-brainer. It exists today in our world, so it should exist in a future with immortal clones, spaceships and railguns. Same principle as not jumping in a helicopter to "try out the controls", you try a simulator first.
Massive battles. Yes please. I've already said in other threads that I'm opposed to the idea of districts and maps in the first place. Just give us some huge environments and the tools to build and destroy stuff and generally mess around (Think Rust meets Planetside and planetary exploration from Mass Effect). The fewer gameplay restrictions the better. |

Proof or STFU
I'm running in to get up close and personal on your ass with a CQC weapon while you are at a distance with a gun. Therefore I have balls of steel compared to you. That is hardcore.

Options are good and prone is exactly that, another option.
You're the same guys crying about FF being on. You're whats wrong with Dust. Prone is a stupid idea for a fast paced action game.
Now everyone can clearly see that you are just hating for the sake of hating prone with absolutely no rational thought put into it. God, you're like that one guy I know in real life who hates R.O.B. in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for absolutely no reason other than to just hate it. He hates R.O.B. so much that he hopes Nintendo gets rid of him in the next game. Although I wonder if he hates R.O.B. because he somehow replaced Krystal.

No one gets away with hating on R.O.B. NO ONE!!!!
Now, I'm going to go back to my Nintendo and make R.O.B. turn back and forth and place spinning tops on cheep plastic controller extensions. |

But I can say we've already had lots of feedback that has made us re-think things.
link to the thread or should we post here?

Proximity Chat will fail if it can be heard by the enemy, as everyone will simply use Skype instead during competitive matches/gamemodes.

EDIT: Also,
1: elite players complain about the battles not meaning anything
2: teamspeak exists sadly, so prox chat is useless.
3: a lot of other games have training rooms and Prone. Your point? http://youtu.be/Vh_nBeP80acPretty much this. This video seems like a very clear indication on what's wrong with PS2. If anything, the problems that PS2 is experiencing right now look very familiar. It's as if Dust's problems have somehow translated over to PS2. Funny. Also, Teamspeak is popular in literally every game owned by anyone with a PC. Hell, you can even use TS on your phone while playing on a console. WoW, GW, EVE, TF, etc. It's a very powerful tool. Eve Online has a built-in voice chat feature but hardly anyone uses it and powerful alliances often discourage its use among their ranks. TS trumps all means of in-game communications. It's the iPhone of the gaming community and it's competitor is Mumble.
