You could argue that the Gallente's use of drones comes from the fact that they are the only empire that doesn't use drafted soldiers.
The best thing that CCP has done with their game is that NONE of the empires are really 'nice.' It is a hell of a feat of writing and I give credit to them. It would be so easy to say "Gallente are the only democracy so they are good, Minmatar are rebel slaves so they are good, Amarr is the Holy Roman Empire so they are evil, and the Caldari are basically corporate fascists so they are evil." Not really so. None of the races come off as evil or good in their backstory.
Methods of Torture for each race (word of warning: every one of these links is either truly cringe worthy stuff, in the case of the Gallente, or pure nightmare fuel that will stick with you, such as the Caldari. Take this seriously):
