Do not post that there is nothing better out right now to play. The majority of gamers worldwide obviously disagree because they play those games and yet here you are still playing DUST. So you, we, are different.

Is it a certain personality type that sticks with this game? We are a strange lot, to be sure, since we are so few in number.

So I ask you, why do you play DUST? I feel your personal answer can tell you a bit about yourself.

But i'm originally an action rpg kinda gamer and lets face it good action rpg's have been very limited the last few years. So when ccp announced dust i wanted to get on board for the rpg ellement, but also the action, etc. Plus another reason and the reason why i still play now is, if ccp continue's to work on the game and it continue's to grow, to become like EVE in it's own way, then you want to get stuck in there early on, because 10 years from now, i wan't to be one of those guys that has most skillbooks maxed out, along with my own little empire.

Also, I like that the game works even if I put very few effort into it. The combination of being a lobby-shooter with persistence appeals to me as a casual player but still gives me a reason to come back whenever I have the time. BTW, also my first console FPS.

I played for the potential, and because CCP promised a ten year plan. I stayed because New Eden is tough, and I knew starting out was going to suck. Fanfest stopped me playing dead. I'm still playing in New Eden, just no longer am I restricted to the crappy part of it. Real AV doesn't stop until all the tanks are dead.

All of the other big name FPS games might have better graphics but their stories and content are tired and repetative. New Eden at last as a rich history that is not just a clone of another game. Also the top shelf games are loaded with children. This is mainly because these games offer no substsnce other than quick games full of immediate satisfaction. And the very short TTK, and god like aim assist makes these type games very simple to play to the point of getting bored with them very quickly. Games like COD are cleary made for pimple faced teens since they use kill cams, encourage quick scoping and squatting down in the middle of a road to shoot instead of using cover, strafing, team work and general tactics. Gun control is not about guns...it's about control. The only way to ensure freedom is by having the means to defend it.

I think youre wrong in that respect: The first players that came into Dust, way before it was released, never had the trouble we went through. They had a level playing field at the start, that got distorted more and more over the time (because SP, ISK and experience gap). So there are some that reaped high returns later for little frustrations at the start. The later you joined, the more perverse the frustrations got, the less returns you got. That is why Dust failed. That is why Dust was and is fundamentally unfair and all in all not a good MMO game. It is very rewarding for about 500 people (40 Kills / 0 Deaths, that is not just skill, dont fool yourselves), the rest are just comparably clever Mobs for them to farm. I joined after relase with uprising 1.0. and there where already huge gaps there. So Dust as it is (not as it was supposed to be) was set to fail from the start. Why I played so long and still play? I know it is unfair, I know everything is set against me. But WHEN I succeed, I am the King of the world :D And I love to hate it and love to rage about it. Its an emotional rollercoaster. But when I am comparing it to Eve, Eve is the better game, no question about it. There are emotional spikes, it is hard, but you are free and feel the progress. Dust is just WAR! HUH! ... I open a can of sunkist soda, and log in to dust. Think about it, you play cod or battlfield and you get a ~similar~ ish experience. However that adrenaline rush you may get will only last a second as your character is hopelessly gunned down. In dust, because of that longer time to kill (Generally) strafing fights and all out madness can last 5,10, 20 etc... seconds. That is a lot longer to feel the rush! That is the only logical thing I can think of as to why this game keeps players. Oh yea - obligatory Chromosome build was the best build comment.
