- Already spent my money on this garbage I'm going to get my value out of it no matter how angry I am with CCP
- Awesome friends who also play the game
- Core gameplay is still more interesting than every other FPS on the PS3
- The setting is unique and interesting. New Eden is one of the rare sci-fi universes that isn't fascinated around intelligent alien life-forms.
- Lasers

I basically play when the SP is high, like this week's event, and when my corporation has PC battles.
On rare occasions I will be bored enough to play it when the aforementioned are not happening, but honestly although I love this game it is too demanding. Not enough reward for the time invested.

It is my understanding DUST has always had a small active player base, even though it is free to play on a platform that millions own.
The vast majority have downloaded it, played it, and quickly moved on to other games.
Even within our own forum community, which is a microcosm and fraction of the actual miniscule player community, players are much more likely to post a negative comment than a positive one.
Personally, I had never played a FPS online before DUST. At first I was terrible, now I merely suck at it. Yet, here I am still playing. I was never here when there was a promise of something better to come, I just play because, well, I don't know why. And that is my point...
Why do you play DUST? Why didn't you quit after you got your arse handed to you when you were new like most all who came before you? Why not after the bugs that never got fixed? Why not after Fanfest 2014?
Do not post that there is nothing better out right now to play. The majority of gamers worldwide obviously disagree because they play those games and yet here you are still playing DUST. So you, we, are different.
Is it a certain personality type that sticks with this game? We are a strange lot, to be sure, since we are so few in number.
So I ask you, why do you play DUST? I feel your personal answer can tell you a bit about yourself.
Me? I'm just fuking crazy.
I read out of that, that you assume we all had to go through the same torture. I think youre wrong in that respect: The first players that came into Dust, way before it was released, never had the trouble we went through. They had a level playing field at the start, that got distorted more and more over the time (because SP, ISK and experience gap). So there are some that reaped high returns later for little frustrations at the start. The later you joined, the more perverse the frustrations got, the less returns you got. That is why Dust failed. That is why Dust was and is fundamentally unfair and all in all not a good MMO game. It is very rewarding for about 500 people (40 Kills / 0 Deaths, that is not just skill, dont fool yourselves), the rest are just comparably clever Mobs for them to farm.
I joined after relase with uprising 1.0. and there where already huge gaps there. So Dust as it is (not as it was supposed to be) was set to fail from the start.
Why I played so long and still play? I know it is unfair, I know everything is set against me. But WHEN I succeed, I am the King of the world :D And I love to hate it and love to rage about it. Its an emotional rollercoaster. But when I am comparing it to Eve, Eve is the better game, no question about it. There are emotional spikes, it is hard, but you are free and feel the progress. Dust is just WAR! HUH! ...
The answer to your complaint is PvE. Always.

because i only have a ps3 and ive beaten almost every game on this console. When i go to game stop i look around and say "what have i not played". So yes i hve nothing better to play because cod has a .25 ttk and i can only play 1 or 2 matches on cod before i get a bunch of hackers and cheaters. We dont have as many hacks and bugs as other fps'.

good question mate. I will say that right now I play in more of a eve player traditional way, which is probably the closest I'll ever get to actually playing that snail of a game. I open a can of sunkist soda, and log in to dust. I then move some Sp around and then go on twitter so I can bug hans about whether nova knife is still at the wall? or ask ironwolf if he got watch dogs? :D (game is actually poop)
EDIT: why here is a old tweet I did about dust514. Dust 514 |

Basically describes me. The closest thing to an FPS that I've played was Resistance:FoM, but I picked up Dust since it was free. Having enjoyed the online aspects of games like the NHL/FIFA series, I enjoy playing against other real people. I'm much too risk-averse to ever be truly good at this game, but I have fun doing what I can to try and help my side win.
As for all of the bugs that people constantly complain about...let's just say that I'll have no trouble capping out this week if I have to abandon Skyrim every time that game freezes up on me.

I now play Dust because of my friends still playing it.
I once played Dust because of the different game idea, connecting to the EVE universe, the unique parts of the game allowing players to do other stuff than just shooting eachother, a 'massive' game that I hoped and wished for to fill the spot of MAG, I once played the game because of the future and visions that were shown and told to come true.... |

Heh OP - I'm still buying Aurum on my Main! Don't f**king ask me why. Though lets be honest, for me personally, when a good game of dust is good, I can think of no game that offers as much fun.
Think about it, you play cod or battlfield and you get a ~similar~ ish experience. However that adrenaline rush you may get will only last a second as your character is hopelessly gunned down.
In dust, because of that longer time to kill (Generally) strafing fights and all out madness can last 5,10, 20 etc... seconds. That is a lot longer to feel the rush! That is the only logical thing I can think of as to why this game keeps players.
Oh yea - obligatory Chromosome build was the best build comment. |

To play with the second family that my corp has become,an international family at that. Getting to talk and fight with them everyday is just fun. We know each others fighting styles and weaknesses. Getting to sync against each other is just as fun. Not looking to the day Dust goes.
