I'm running for CPM myself, and why not? I don't see the community with rose tinted glasses, in fact i'm probably just as likeley to be swearing at you lot through my TV screen. I don't particulary care about representing a specifc playstyle either. I don't run corps, or alliances, barely spend any time in EVE and i'm certainly not in it for lol Dust/Legion fame. Just an anonymous merc drifting between contracts.
I'm running because Dust is a favorite hobby of mine, and it would be cool to have some form of input on the dying embers of Dust and the start of Legion, probably in the way that it should be. As in interacting with the forums, get the pulse of what players want, discuss things with my fellow elected CPM, and give the devs from feedback from time to time.
I got no manifesto, in game politics, grandoise plan or even an ulterior motive. I can promise you nothing if you vote for me except a cynical attitude and understanding that i represent players with a wide range of playstyles. I, or anybody else running can not promise anymore than that because I have no idea what is under the NDA or what isn't. Also its important to realize its CCP that designs and pays the development for Dust and Legion, and the CPMs role in that m achine is pretty limited.
That said I want, like all of us, to help improve the intellectual property as it migrates from Dust to Legion. I can promise that I'll do my best to steer things in the direction that we as a community feel is best in conjunction with what CCP's vision and goals are for the game.
Peace.

Your post speaks to my cynical nature :P
The term Community is an important part of the CPM position, indeed every candidate uses the term at some point. However it is an abstract concept, so what I would like is to hear your definition of community. No right or wrong answers here, just looking to get a better feel of where you are coming from.

Th DUST Community for me conveys a unique sense of inclusivness of other players with a nasty little elitist ego on the side. People spend alot of time and effort in getting good at their role of choice and always seem to think (me incuded) that we're know better than anyone else is at times. The trust squads and corps build amongst players who respect each other makes the game very inclusive. In most case as long as you are willing to fight hard lots of good corps will take in strangers and teach them how to play.
Its kind of like going to the greatest bar in world which also happens to be the most violent/passive agressive bar in the world. With friends its awsome, alone its tricky, Old heads get the best tables, and new guys kind of get beatup at the door. And the forums would be the one dark corner where people scream thier poltical philosophy.
Me, i just want to be the bartender.

Tesfa,
Thanks for stepping into the race. You are certainly joining at an interesting time.
Would you mind telling us a bit more about your Dust / Eve experience? Also, a bit about you in RL such as education, profession, time available, ext?
1) Other than the forums how do you intend to collect and communicate requests, needs, POV of the community? In particular, those outside your corp / alliance.
2) What level of interaction would you like to establish between the CPM and CSM? What areas are critical for you to work together on going forward.
3) What are the top 3 Dust related changes you would encourage CCP to make for the current player base in the next few months. I'm looking for concrete examples that are realistic to achieve.
4) What aspect or features in Legion that you've heard of are you most interested in working on? What features discussed so far are you most concerned about and why? (Note: my assumption is that there will be limited initial engagement in Legion as per CCP note but will likely have increased interaction as Legion development and the relationship between CCP and CPM1 grows.)
5) In Spring of 2015, when CPM1's term is up, what would you want people to have said about your tenure as a CPM member?
Thank you for your time.

Dust wise, i've been playing since open beta. Definitly not the richest merc, not really a slayer nor an SP titan. I've got just over 24 million SP, that i've invested in every thing in the game. I'm best known as a proto minimatar logi, but i have always had points invested in every class of suit (except the commando post 1.8), and every vehicle, and every weapon. Eve wise, tried it, its a beautiful looking game but the point and click style of flying or combat isn't for me.
to answer your questions:
1: I would prefer feedback and CPM requests to be done soley in the forums. That way players can see if progress is being made and rightfully get credit for good ideas that players propose. Also it goes down to transparancy so everybody can see who i am discussing what topic with, and call me out if they feel like i have been neglecting a certain issue. I already squad with people outside of my corp and alliance i hit squad finder all the time, so yeah, i'm always listening.
2. I don't know how much of a link there could be. Eve and dust are two different games with extremley different natures. I would like to learn from hem more about getting the best out of a working relationship with CCP. But thats it.
3. Speaking of concrete examples, off of the top of my head they shoud remove vehicles from ambush. Fix the heavy pg and cpu. Remove damage mods from vehicles. The kind of stuff that could be done tomorrow.
4. Exploration of territory in legion/PVE. I want to able to cruise along in a scannig dropship, pick up something suspicious on scans and call it in to frendlies either rumbling along on the ground or also waiting to be hotdropped in. Even ifits just 16 dudes convergin on a position to fight for something tht has value to the winner that we can use. Oay almost everything in legion interests me. But map exploration tops my own list. To be honest, I'l most likely just act on what the community prefers however. The cpm is for the community, not really as a personal sounding board.
5. I'd just want people to say we did alright by them. As long as the general consensus is that we did make the community feel like they were a part of what was going on about dust, that we didn't abuse our position or alienated the communty, i'd be happy with that. If they sung our praise, well that would be even bettter i suppose.
Thanks for the questions, and feel free to ask more. I'll save my real life info for later. Cheers.

This statement concerns me. Being heavily specced into Vehicles, and only at Advanced Suits on most Dropsuits, should I be excluded from playing the way I want to play in any game mode at all? I could understand if it was an arena-style game mode, or indoors, but we have neither, and excluding a group of people based on how they chose to play isn't right.

I think it's realistic for the game to have a mode where players are unimpeded by vehicle abuse. As I've stated before, within the scope of hotfixes, it is essentially impossible to "balance" vehicles and infantry, because the design is fundamentally flawed.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

I'm specced into vehicles as well. So i know, and every other player that runs ambush that once the vehicles come in its a giant turkey shoot. We all know Infantry have no place to run, and are lucky to find a place to hide, especially on small maps. AV guys dont last 5 seconds out there, even if you destroy a tank, because there is no supply depot in regular ambush to switch suits at.
Tanking in ambush is exploiting the size of the maps, and the ease of killing infantry who don't have the time to set up proper defenses or call in mutiple vehicles from the safety or a red line to counter/outmanuever you like in a domination or a skirmish. So if abusing vehicles like that is the kind of way you want to play, no you should'nt do it.
You are already denied calling in a vehicle anyways if me and a friend call in a vehicle. You have already been excluded from playing how you want. As is most infantry because ambush is restricted to revolving around whether or not your side manages to get an tank in, and on getting where vehicles are inaccessible.
By the way it is also reversible, so if the community reacted negativley to the idea of removing vehicles, they can always be put back in.
Also on you having "only" advanced suits, you don't need proto to play ambush.

As I have stated many times in the past, including advocating for there removal from ambush in my popular analysis on swarms back in march, and again in this segment, on my secondary swarm video in may. It's an idea that has met with community support. There have been three recent threads on this topic and the majority consensus was to remove them.
I have stated this in general a few times, such as here :
Judge Rhadamanthus wrote:And lets not forget the new players. Ambush is the game mode most familiar to them. All FPS have some form of team death match. Its a natural place to start. No odd flashing red and blue letters; just dude on dude action..(read that as you will).
But what do they find there. Blaster tanks ripping all to shreds. I duna about you, but that's not fun for the new guys. And also here :
Judge Rhadamanthus wrote:I think all vehicles, of any type, should be removed from ambush. The maps are just not suitable for it. Consider too the spawn system. AV works best when the AV players, who are weak against infantry, are defended by their team. A good AV player, sets up and a high vehicle traffic area and keeps zones of importance clear for his team to work free of vehicle attack.
But with a spawn system that constantly keeps changing the AV cannot choose a position to engage because the battle front keeps moving. With the spawn changing they can suddenly find that the enemy is behind them. The maps are too open and small so tanks and drosphips can cover the entire map in short order, and kill AV before they have a chance to reposition.
Take them out. So many great infantry fights are ruined by a tank popping up and lol killing the entire team. It is just not that fun for the infantry.
So I agree with Tesfas view on this one.

What I'm saying, Is that I should be able to play 'what I want' in any game mode I chose. Now, considering that Ambush is a superior means of grinding SP (4 fifteen minute battles compared to 3 20 minute ones) why shouldn't vehicle drivers also benefit from having such a window of play?
Possibly having a Non-Vehicle Ambush Game Mode would be ok, so long as the status quo is maintained and they are run side by side, since it's impossible to have a 'vehicle-only' mode.
I am heavily specced into Vehicles. I lack many 'weapon' skill and fitting skills of an Infantry-focused player. It's not so much the suit alone, but the lack of fitting options for myself being under skilled all around in the area. I don't have Armor or Shield support skills maxed as Infantry, but I do in Vehicles. If I was focused infantry, and had the SP investment to back up stated Advanced Suits, they would be more than viable.

What you describe is the NPE after Academy. The issue you are experiencing, and describing is one of being in a match in gear that you feel is not competitive as your SP pool is too small. At the same time you advocate allowing powerful Tanks and dropships into that environment. I fail to see how this does anything but cause the very issue you feel is unfair. Now we have a situation where low SP players not only have lesser equipment, as you acknowledge, but tanks roam the land like kings.
CCP have stated that we will not get client side changes. New game modes are out of the question, as is splitting ambush as that's a client side change. Map changes are out of the question too. Perhaps if DUST was not on shutdown better fixes could be made. But we are not in a position to fix ambush properly.
Vehicles have no place in ambush in this phase of DUSTs cycle. I use vehicles too, and we have to honestly acknoledge their power and the impact it has on other players. My right to use my dropship as I wish ends the moment it spoils the game play of the vast majority of other players. We are at the moment in ambush now.

I do, honestly, acknowledge that vehicle use is far too impactful. I have been a voice for non-numerical changes and (map designs, etc) for a long time. Trying to regain those 'intangibles' that balance such systems. And since the ability to get client side changes is next to zero, I do have to agree this may be a band aid that is sorely needed for the time being.
The comments I asked in this thread were to address more the underpinning issues that you remove a % of the playerbase from a faster method of accumulating SP. 4 games of SP for the time-price of 3 domination or skirmish battles. I'm not saying it's a bad move in the grand scheme of things, but that more issues need to be looked at besides how much impact vehicles have on infantry in said game modes.
As usual, however, I will stick by the principals that this isn't the 'right' move to make. It may be, however, that it would be the only move we have to make. We just have to consider more than just one facet of the issue, and what else may be affected by such a change.

If we get elected and get chance to give CCP feedback on vehicle changes, of course there are tons of differing factors to tae into consideration. The recent Blaster cannon dispersion hotfix was good start. Vehicles vs AV getting tweaked may also be a game changer. There are many factors that could come into play. As things stand right now, i think if CCP did offer to remove vehicles from ambush i would agree. It could be tried in stages first ambush then ambush OMS. and we see how the community reacts from there.

I don't think the players should by any less cynical. The way I see it the average player has spent a long time in building a character or a specific suit. It does take long term planing, and alot of players think about every detail before they invest and while they invest. Its part of why DUST players are very defensive (dare i say proud?) about their preferred playstyle, becuse it took a month or more to build up. Its part of why the community can be resistant to change, but also why the community generates so much feedback. Positive constructive feed back like judges videos. Or pure emotional feed back like bamms reaction video to sabrewings departure. or just data driven ones like protofits.com To be honest CCP earnd some of that cynicsm the hard way, far beyond the control of the CPM (fanfest anyone?). So longs as its not detrimental or harmful to others or the dvelopment of the game, i say go for it.

As Bamm Havoc would say, i like the cut of your jib good sir. (no idea what it means cept 'gg bro')
I agree fully with your comments here - i think often it does come down to a community feeling it has to act in one way or another and this often leads to CULTURE WARS between groups (Goonswarm vs BOB HAHA)
I think its refreshing to acknowledge that the Dust 514 player base can be a difficult group at times and having played many games with you now I could see your qualities for getting the job done and pushing through the game to get a result will serve you well in this process.
One thing i also feel is worth mentioning is EGO, ego is going to be the downfall of quite a number of the CPM candidates so far, many of them seem to feel they are entitled to this positon of CPM and this naturally leads to huge gaps of capabilty which will see them fall now, or later.
With yourself i can see you are ego-less and this is a huge plus point to your campaign. i feel we would need people in position who dont see every question and proposed statement as an attack on them, rather a discssion point to develop and launch from. Really glad to see you didnt fall into this state.
I have further questions but for now, great reply thanks.
