Pvt Numnutz wrote:Suicide dropships have become an epidemic. Every game I go into there is instantly a suicide dropship in the air that rams me before I can react. These dropships make it impossible to do any kind of serious operation with a dropship as all they need to do is ram you. "Well just shoot them down!" You say, well its not that easy. Most fit afterburners and run to the redline before you can shoot them down, even with gunners. "Well then just be more aware!" Not that simple either, I usually can't see them before its too late and they tap me anyway. If I do see them I know I can't do anything except dodge them which is really very boring and makes it so I cannot do any of my jobs.
This is a problem that needs to be fixed. It takes all of the fun out of dropshipping and negates the dropship role entirely.
After being rammed I found a random blue dropship on the street and decided I would just fly around. A rail tank started shooting at me and I thought f*** it let's see what happens. I dove full speed directly into the tank and it did absolutely no damage. This surprised me to say the least.
So how do we fix this? I have talked with some friends and arrived at a few conclusions.
Remove the collision damage from dropships hitting each other. You can still ram them and knock them into walls but it won't be an instant kill because you tapped them. This allows the victim to fight back without instantly loosing his investment.
increase the dropships scan range so at least we can see them well before they hit us. This won't get rid of the problem but will certainly help and at least allow actual pilots to continue flying.
reverse the impact damage so only the dropship that rams takes the damage.
Personally I think number one is the best solution. Anyway I made this thread to seriously discuss this because I have millions of sp into dropships and is where I got my fun in dust. Suicide dropships are ruining any fun I can have.
Inb4 "get gud scrub" "ramming dropships is the only way to kill them" "its actually really hard to ram another dropship" "f*** you I should be able to play how I want"
First off, this complaint is invalid. First off, It is definitely difficult to ram a dropship without being shot down yourself, no ability to counter fire, etc. Second, We get no points. None. The only thing we get is a more even battle field for my team. Not everyone has skilled into vehicles so we have to come up with whatever AV method we can. Ramming a drop ship is perfectly valid. Not to mention I know ADS pilots that ram their own ADS's into other ADS's when the ADS vs ADS battle is dragging out.
Truthfully, I should get some damn points for ramming and destroying a dropship. I drive my corp mates ADS and it's ridiculous how easy it is to maneuver a Incubus over a gorgon. The fact I can ram a gorgon into your ADS is a sign that you need to improve as an ADS. It should be impossible for me to ram you. On top of all of that, am I the only one that occasionally presses the Down button to see the map and see vehicles on the map while in a vehicle myself?

Theres these nasty little things called sicas, who dole out 1,200 damage per shot, not counting damage mods when stacked, which will get you in the vicinity of 1,800 damge per shot. Zero SP, little isk.
Some maps aren't conducive for noobs with MLT Sica's with Rails. But I do, occasionally, bring in my tank and do my thing none the less ;)
