I'm not asking this because I hate cloaked shotguns, I'm asking because it really doesn't make any sense why they don't. The optics in our dropsuits can pick up the purple outline of the cloak, but the active a scanner can't? It's only purpose is to pick up on enemy units and with how long the cool down is, you'd think it was actually doing a massive scan. What kind of scan does the scanner use? Heat, sonar, radio signal, movement, distortions in light? Any of these still would be able to pick up a cloaked unit. Unless you went extreme scifi and developed a completely new idea base for scans, even this advanced of a world wouldn't skip the basic **** we have developed at our technology level. If it's not the scanner, then the cloak units really are too unbalanced, there's no way to counter them in an urban setting on the game besides dumb luck of turning around at the right time.
Let active scanners pick up cloaked units, it makes sense and it'd be a great way to level out the balance. Make it so their signature is smaller, or you can't see what direction they are facing. Just something. |

They can. They use the same scan system, involving suit dB as always. Cloaks modify dB.

Proto scanner, proto Gallente logi suit. Problem solved... unless you're going against Galscouts, or a Minmatar/Amarr giving up most of their armor/speed/hacking ability/etc... to avoid your scanners.
If you're expecting to pick up scouts who have invested millions into the scout role with a basic or advanced scanner, you're going to be disappointed, and deserve as much for expecting to constantly see everything on your radar for less than a million SP. If you've actually got a proto scanner and aren't picking up your targets, it means they're using at least one or more profile dampeners or are are Galscouts with cloaks.

Lowest a Gal Logi or a Cal SCout can scan is 15 db, so it's OP.
CCP needs to buff scanners a bit and nerf profile dampning, that Gallente SCout is just ridiculous. And moments soon, fools will come in this thread and proclaim how teh Gallente scout is "perfectly balanced! use ur eyz! get gud " etc etc.
Take that ridiculous profile dampning away and all the wannabe scout scrubs would get stomped. Without that dampning you scouts are NOTHING. |

Well, I just plugged it into Protofits, and it seems like a Gallente Scout with two Complex Dampeners is literally unscannable to anything at all.
It has a 13.87 profile, where the Caldari Scout with quadra-stacked precision enhancers has a 14.91 scan precision, and a Gallente Logistics with a Duvolle Focused Active Scanner has a precision of 15.
The GalScout beating the scanner I can understand, but the CalScout is sacrificing every single slot in his main tank and is still unable to scan even a moderately profile-tanked GalScout.
On the flipside, of course, a fully precision-tanked GalScout can't spot a fully profile-tanked CalScout.
I'm not sure what numbers to suggest to make it so that a quadra-stacked precision Cal can spot a double-stacked dampener Gal, but the double stacked precision Gal can find the double stacked profile Cal. Or maybe it's just the latter that should happen; I don't have an issue with the GalScout being unscannable per se, and of course a quadra-stacked, cloaked Amarr Scout is unscannable also, but the sheer absorption of resources it takes for the Amarr to do that makes it impractical at best.
Perhaps changing the Gallente Scout bonus to 4% per level?
That way three 25% precision mods renders it unscannable, whereas two requires a fully precision tanked Caldari or GalLogi to find.
(Base profile = 35)*(Dampening 5 = 0.9)*(GalScout 5 = 0.8)*(First mod = 0.75)*(Second mod (25*0.869=21.525) = 0.7825)*(Third mod (25*0.571=14.275) = 0.85275)
So 35*0.9*0.8*0.75*0.7825*0.85275 = a final profile of 12.61, which is well below the CalSout's current threshold of 14.91, and can be reached by using a cloak (giving the GalScout five relevant module slots, strictly speaking).
Sorry for the meandering :)

leave the bonuses on suit alone. here are a few ideas 1 - just change the db from 35 to 40 for all light & scout suits. 2 - bring back the old scanners stats ( including the 360 spin bit) and let the gal logi keep their bonus to them. 3 - switch the mods % on the dampners & precision so the complex prec is 25% and complex dampners are 20% lets see what you all think |

No, you still can't. i use gal logy lvl 5 with creodron scanner = 28dB - 25% = 21dB dampened scout is 35dB (basic) - 10%(skill) - 25%(complex damp) - 25%(activated cloak) = 17.7dB Only the Duvolle focused scanner which costs 30K ISK and recharge time of 40sec and scan duration of 7.5sec gives reasonable scan precission of 15dB, but a cloaked gal scout with damp has 13.28dB and is undetectable. So there is no use of the Duvolle scanner as it is too expencive and the recharge time is too high. also the low scan durration will warn the non gal scout to hideand run for only 7.5 sec than he will have 40 sec to kill the stupid gal logi (me). |

Tell me why the flux grenade doesn't stop the cloak then? I can't scan em, see em, or flux em?! They can fire and re cloak immediately. If you can show me a down side to that thing I'll leave it alone. In fact with the way scouts can stack armor, and use every weapon but heavy, show me a down side to the scout now? Their faster and stronger than any assault player, out ranges heavies with rail and combat rifles, and they have a cloak with no downside?! Really?!

Meh its not really usefull anymore to have a active scanner. Playing as scout with passive scans is much better. Nobody sees you and you can see every 1 trough walls. A legit wallhack in the game which makes it easymode. |

Because you're an expert on fair and just, right?! You shut the **** up! If you don't have an answer to balancing the game for all instead of just giving yourself a landslide advantage then keep your mouth shut! How about a suggestion to fix the actual issue sweetheart! 360 scan at very short distance option? 30 meter distance. Snapshot at long range option? You cpu geeks don't understand balance. That's why you go from one extreme to the next all the time?! Therefore something is always OP or UP?! A 360 scan would be great at 20 meter range with a clear disadvantage to the distance! You see that proto stompers and ccp? Advantage! Disadvantage! It's not that hard?! Rail rifle: long range, slow rof, garbage up close. Assault rifle: short range, high rof, garbage at range. Easy! The way you guys think: Combat rifle: highest rof, heavy dmg, long and short range dominance, screw you I'm awesome?! And now I can disappear with my Harry potter cloak with no disadvantages?! Douchebags?!
