I have a gallente logi and a caldari scout (also a minmatar scout but, I'm not very good at using him for whatever reason). Scouts are very weak so they have to pick their targets. I mean for the most part. So they will pick on the easiest target. once you lay scout for a little bit you will start to see what target to pick on and which ones to avoid and more importantly you will understand how to approach your target. SO, how does this translate to you? Simple, once you understand them you will know what to look for. You see a heavy suit will rush right through the door where as a scout will try to sneak in. You start thinking, if I where a scout where would i come from to get in here and that is exactly where he will be.
As an example, lets say that you are up in a high place on top of a building. Well, you know that a heavy will not try to climb that ladder because you will see them long before he even starts to climb. A scout however, can sneak in. So ofcourse if you are in a high place then every now and then take a look at that ladder. Another example. Lets say there is an open field in front of you and a building box to your left. The scout is not going to go right through the middle of the field because you will see him and you will kill him. A heavy might risk it but not a scout. Now that box to your left looks mighty tempting for the scout so keep an eye out to your left.
In short if there is a way to sneak around and get to your position then that is exactly where the scout will come from.
Ok, but even with eyes at the back of your head a scout can still get through so what do you do? You need a fast shooting weapon. an AR works pretty well as well as a leveled up smg. The reason is because the scout doesn't have a lot of Health so it only takes a few shots to kill them. An AR shoots fast enought to kill most of them. On the other hand the rail rifle sucks for killing scouts. The reason is that the short range damage is too low and the gun shoots too slow. If you have two weapons one being the rail rifle and the other one being say an smg or a magsec you might be better off using the smg or marsec.
Also, when you see a scout walk backwards and traffle. This will create some distance which will reduce the damage done by the shotgun which might be enough for you to get a few rounds in.
Finally, the best advice is the one everybody keeps saying. Stay in a group. 1v1 a scout has an advantage once he gets close in. However, when a scout tries his luck against a squad with mikes the tables get turned very quickly. If you still get shot one of your friends may be able to revive you .
