Dear players,
My name is Snorri +ürnason, a.k.a. CCP Rattati.
From today, I will be working closely with CCP Rouge to ensure the continued development and support of DUST 514, and will try to serve as your main point of contact for all matters DUST.

I want to begin by establishing the two main themes that will guide our development and improvement of the DUST 514 experience.
Transparency
GÇóDUST 514 is my favorite shooter on the PS3 and we can and will make it even better. GÇóPersistance is the key factor, more so in DUST 514 than any other fps. There is plenty of fun to be had by squadding up with friends, skilling into various roles or specializing in a single role, and ultimately killing, winning and reaping the rewards in ISK and SP, even if Project Legion is developed on PC. GÇóPlease do not biomass your characters, it breaks my heart. GÇóAs CCP Rouge said at Fanfest, we will do everything we can to take care of our players. If Project Legion is green lit, we intend to migrate your character over if you wish and our goal is to preserve as much of your emotional, financial and time investment as possible. GÇóI want you to understand that right now you have a choice of maximizing your SP by using boosters, or saving your AUR/boosters, whatever makes the most sense to you as a player. GÇôkeep playing using boosters and increase your SP GÇôkeep playing and donGÇÿt spend your AUR on boosters GÇóOur new processes will ensure that we are fixing and improving the right things in DUST 514 at the right time GÇóI want to work with the community. I admit that I donGÇÿt know everything and I expect you to understand that we are doing our best. The individuals on the dev team, including me, will not have experienced every single thing you have. On the flipside, we have the design vision and plenty of data. There must be a mutual respect, and criticism is welcomed, if it is based on facts and put forth in a constructive way.
Collaboration and Data
GÇóCCP Rouge and I are strong believers in crowdsourcing. I have said many times in the past that gamers are the ultimate optimization engine, a huge neural network of smart people from all over the world and from virtually all professions. The time it takes the playerbase to find the debatably GÇ£best fitGÇ£ is measured in hours and days, not weeks. Ultimately, we, the dev team will make the final decision but I consider the community at large, through forums and CRM reps, to be the first pillar, the CPM the second and developers the third. GÇóI also believe in learning from the example of others, most notably our EVE devs, including CCP Rise and CCP Fozzie. GÇóWe will establish a few precedures and processes that will encourage a functioning feedback loop and verification with data.
Next Steps
GÇóA clarification on GÇ£server side changesGÇ£ versus GÇ£client updatesGÇ£. Most of the attributes of items can be changed in our backend system, called CATMA. GÇóAdding new weapons and dropsuits with existing functionality, changing weapon damage, dropsuit hp and slots, pg and cpu values, and most of the values needed for balancing items and roles can be changed during server downtime. GÇóThings like terrain, texture, models, animations, functionality, UI and more, cannot be changed server side and need a client update. These changes are unlikely, but theoretically possible. GÇóIn the short to mid term we will exclusively be focusing on server side changes GÇóWe will sort all feedback and ideas into the two categories based on technical evaluation, because it is not always obvious which one it is, and let you know GÇóWe will aim for the first iteration pass as soon as possible. The DUST 514 team already has a sizable list of things we want to improve on. GÇóWe will also be launching an GÇ£All the Small ThingsGÇ£ thread in General Discussions to crowdsource ideas in the next few days and gather for the next pass, again, with focus on small and quick server side updates we can get out the door as soon as possible. GÇóAs part of the process, we will sticky specific topics under Features and Ideas and harvest feedback from those threads.

We are far along with Planetary Conquest improvements, we consider it one of the immediate concerns

35,years old, 3 years for B.S. Industrial Engineering, M.S. thesis on Bayesian Statistics took 2 more years for a total of 5.

Simple plan is, identify issues (heavy forum complaints, or data trends "why is noone using x and y"), prioritize, send to forums for feedback, number crunching and told you so's, design, execute and measure

Welcome CCP Rattati! So, an updated FW store with the 1.8 suits are possible without a client update and we should except such a thing?
It's possible, whether it is deemed a priority I will leave to community and CPM to figure out. I would myself like to create new officers weapons that benefit a larger crowd ,but thats just my opinion.

Critical questions;
1.) Will we get new maps, ever? (not new sockets) 2.) Will we ever see a player market? Ya know, the thing MANY players have been waiting for for months. 3.) Is the overhaul to PC cancelled? 4.) Why continue developing Dust only server side? When the game needs more client side updates if anything.
Is this due to; A.) Lack of talent on the development team? B.) Lack of care on CCPs part? C.) Satisfying your agreement with Sony by giving minimal updates so you do not have to pay back refunds? D.) All of the above.
I'll check back from time to time to see if you bothered to answer any of these questions. I know the life of a CCP Dev must be very difficult, so I'll expect your answers Soon(tm).
1) No new maps on horizon, theoretically possible 2) No 3) No 4) Server side fixes are low hanging fruit, I also believe hardly used content that becomes viable counts as "semi-new" content. See the balancing video I posted in the Dev Spotlight for insight.

I do hope LP store changes are on that list eventually, at the very least, prices. The inconsistent pricing (aka absurd waste of LP on modules) is annoying and is the reason I only buy Proto suits. Just get me the 'All the Small Things' post and I'll be good. Some very simple things that have annoyed me for a long time still exist. Also, I hope we have been working on the remaining 1.8 problems, because, they still exist. Saberwing, you may have not have actually spoken too highly on an announcement for the first time in your career here, congrats.
It's already up in Feedback sub-forum as well as a sticky on Turrets. There are a few high level stickies inbound, Rifle Balancing, Infantry Armor (or we seem to only want EHP), and a few more

Ah, so confirming that the lack of LP items is added as easily as a new AUR variant. THanks. Now we know marketing is the reason you won't let us have LP variants of the missing items to continue: So, where are the MLT variants of all weapons? Where are the Prototype Scrambler Pistols that have been in the SDE since we got access to it?
More MLT weapons are on our list, LP items are also, officer weapons too. I reckon we will ask the community to have a say in the prioritization. It sounds as easy as copy and paste, but it isn't . I wish it were.

Rattati basically confirmed what we allready know and that we only see bug fixes and balancing for the game. What i would like to know if those ideas are possible without a client update:
-using infantry guns from passanger seats (dropship/LAV) -HMG as a optional turret for LAV's,HAV's and Dropships (espacially LAV's would benefit from a HMG turret) -Shield repair tools (no new modell just inverted function from existing reptools)
These ideas are based on allready existing weapons or equipment so adding stuff via sony shouldnt be required.
I added these three to our evaluation list, however, the HMG as a turrret was already there (and also swarm launcher), imagine a DS hunting LAV ;)

Took 2 years for CCP to finally have the epiphany that it takes statistics to crunch big data. Now I am sure there is more to it than meets the eye and it has not been done effectively so far for some reason. But all the same it's a very good sign that the Dev's are finally talking about methodical balancing based on math (e.g. answering questions such as "Am I 5 times more likely to score a kill if I spawn with AR than with PLC?" and then finding fixes for these situations). I hope this is what you are talking about here, Rattati, and if so, it's great to have you on board.
