Its been years since I had my last problem with viruses. I have been pretty much using the built in Windows Defender and AdAware.
From time to time I get a free, more powerfull virus scan and run it, it finds nothing, then uninstall because most anti-viruses are damn intrusive.
Just stay out of **** and other illegal activities sites. Use your freedom with responsability. Be somewhat smart (like, no one you dont know will send you nude pictures with .exe extensions). If you cant be that smart, well, dont buy a PC. |

It's not for the same type of people. Console is what it is : a rather pretty box (ps4 at least), in your living room with a controller right by it, that you just poke and start playing with, not moving an inch from your couch. You dont have to wonder about specs, drivers, nor teamspeak or other chat. Nor do you ever have to wonder if the guy facing you is cheating\scripting\having a better machine and thus having an advantage etc... It is just NOT the same thing. I played on my PC when i was 15 to 22 and followed the gear market etc... Now ? im 30 and dont have a room where i can have a desk with a computer, nor do i have the time or envy to bug myself with PC gaming. My PC is a laptop, it plays movies, surf the internet and downloads prons (when needed) . that's it. So as much as you're trying to help, you're just pissing off people because of all of the above. Console player COULD play on PC and would know just as much as the next guy HOW TO. They just DONT WANNA
I agree and disagree.
While its true that playing on console is different (at least without effort) from it on PC, we cannot say ALL console players know how to or are sufficiently informed to form an opinion.
In that light, its good to have some pointers about how it looks like on the other side of the fence.
Theres all people around the spectrum, people that are in love for consoles , in love of PC's, people who love both, perhaps not equally, people who only know one and are oblivious to the other, sometimes out of prejudice and ignorance.
So, idk, information is allways good, imo.

are you really saying that its her own fault that her pc got hacked and that she shouldv bent over to the demands of that bastard who hacked her?
you sick son of a *****. No amount of money can buy someone privacy. she did the right thing. i would rather completely destroy a computer if some **** head tried to do that to me.
Hackers just dont simply hack inside computers, you know?
Its not like the movies.
IMO, I am pretty sure it was her fault. She probably ended up on some suspicious site or clicked o a suspect link or email attachment.
Its not like shes guily, but shes unknowingly responsible.
Next time, at least ask her to throw her PC on my trash ;)

I also don't have to worry about: - Hardware inequality. We are all on a level playing field. - Upgrading my hardware every 1-2 years - Wondering if the guy just beat me because he's good or because of hax
So, stop. Just stop.
- you can plug the PC to a big ass TV. - imo thats a non issue. - if you believe in that, you are wrong. - I wondered the same thing playing CoD Ghosts on the PS3..... oh well.
But yeah, platform is a matter of what one suits better your lifestyle. |

John Demonsbane wrote: And, again, thank you Ender Storm, for helping this poor intellectually challenged console gamer. I had no idea it was possible to hook up a PC to a TV. That is completely new information!
My pleasure.
John Demonsbane wrote: Where am I going to put it? (Not everyone has a space for yet another box in their living room)
I am sure theres a palce to put an micro-atx format case. On the side of the shelve, behind the tv. Theres allways a place. Get creative, afterall you found a place for the PS3 :)
In my case, it could confortably fit on the side of my shelve.
John Demonsbane wrote: How am I going to see the tiny fonts that are not designed for such use? (My eyesight is not what it was in my 20's)
Several options:
- Configure the windows fonts to the bigger size. - Configure the screen resolution to a lower resolution while on the OS, the screen resolution when executing games is a different matter and not subordinate. - Use Steam Big Picture. Its steam interface for use on the TV's. Big fonts and boxes, rigth there.
John Demonsbane wrote:How am I going to remain competitive with the people using gaming/macro enabled KBM equipment? (I will conceed the argument that maybe I'm not all that leet with a controller on PS3 either, lol. But... all the more reason to want an even playing field. I will not under any circumstances consider playing with KBM so don't even try. I get enough strain on my hands/wrists at work already, thank you)
Man, if theres one thing I believe is overhyped is gaming/macro stuff.
I play just fine with a 10 year old, 3 buttons mouse.
I had some money and bought myself a mechanical keyboard. Guess how many special keys it has? Zero. It was $120. The only benefit is that it will last forever and will be more confortable for typing.
I literally run from macro keyboards. Gamey things have a tendency for low quality. I prefeer well build, proven stuff.
You wont be losing matches because of it. |
