First off, thanks for making a legion discussion thread.
One of the more interesting bits of the legion demo was the weather conditions. I've always wanted the planets to have more personality, and weather is a biggie otherwise you just have a series of deserts with dust flying about. Weather also affects the player and equipment which made me start thinking of different conditions.
I've only thought of a few that I hope make it in.
-Solar Storm/flares
A solar flare would disrupt scanners, passive scanning, and would mess with the hud by adding noise and a wobble. Suit db profile would remain the same, but the precision would be decreased by 25%. If the planet has a thick atmosphere it would be nice to get a aurora effect in the skybox. Plasma weapons might get a range, or damage bonus with all those solar particles in the air. You could also get a hack speed on bonus to emulate the security system malfunctioning.
-Thunder/lightning
Lightning strikes would hit the ground and basically act as a flux grenade stripping shields of anyone nearby. If you don't have any shields left it will kill you, so if you're hit by one you should probably stay in that same spot. During an active storm any rail weapons that will have their spool up time cut down. It could also Increase your profile by 25% and increase shield recharge rate.
Whether they make sense or not is up to you guys. These conditions though would benefit Gallente and Caldari users, and the one on the presentation seemed to benefit amarr. I'm not sure what would help with minmatar weapons. I was thinking something with wind, but that just seems like it would mess up mass driver shots.

Yeah if we ever get to mine minerals meteorites it would be a great way to spawn loot. We just need an ol' prospector animation where we jump up and click our heels together.
I like a lot of these ideas. I remember the old EP talking about having matches with 0 gravity and battles on non-temperate planets, but I always knew they would need a stronger system to pull it off. The map I always wanted to play on was the mining drill one that had a huge chasm going down into a mine. It would be like 3 maps in one where you'd have the surface, the mining structure, and then the caverns.

Weather conditions should have some minor effects, yes, but it shouldn't favor any race over another.
I see your point. I would like weather to not give a buff to any race, but change their playstyle. Railguns in a storm could have a shorter spool up time, but maybe have less range or a slower rate of fire. In scorched weather conditions it said all guns would overheat so maybe it should be a flat change across all types. |
