Yeah yeah, "steal" is technically inaccurate, but hey, opinions are like bums etc. If you feel CCP was unfair in their dealings, maybe you feel that word applies.
I'm sure I spent $120+ on dust, but I'm not gonna count the whole thing, that's not reasonable. I enjoyed playing the game, and I supported them in their noble endeavor and had some extra fun in the game by contributing to the cause, win-win. But then their intentions changed, and we became cash cows. SAD FACE.
They probably got $20 bucks out of me at the end, and damn if I'm not gonna be way more trouble than I'm worth. I wouldn't even accept the money back at this point, some people were cheated out of a lot more and I would rather they had the money.
One of my friends asked me about Dust 514 because he saw me playing it through psn. I am very glad I didn't answer right away, because that was the day of the keynote. I told him later that it wasn't worth his time.
I doubt any of my real-life gamer friends are ever going to hear about Legion, which means I'm going to have to go way out of my way to cost CCP business, which is terribly inconvenient, but hey, anything less and I'm a hypocrite. |

I don't consider choosing to pay for something of my own free will as being stolen from.
Okay, you can have this car of mine for $50! It's totally not stolen. I have a (forged) pink slip and everything! But when the cops come by to take it back, there would be no point in turning me in, because you gave me money of your own free will.
God I LOVE suckers.... I mean customers... like you. |

Hahahahaha.......... *crys* Hey you paid for that nothing of your own free will, quit complaining.
And anybody who had the brains to spend $0 on dust gets a like from me. But I assume most don't mean it that way. |

Well, they vaguely promised some sort of transfer of character progress ... so... maybe? Better keep your fingers crossed for the next year.
Just kidding, they have no reason to keep their promises lol, nobody cares!
Better to just assume everything they say is a lie. |

Amazing!
And that analogy you found too, I'm gonna have to ctrl-c that crap. Awesome.
But you're wrong. Not everything is so black and white.
Here's an example, in the produce business (fruits and veggies), farmers sell their product to distributors, and these distributors sell these to stores (and other distributors, for reasons), if some store owner got the notion that he could just bypass this distributor and get his stuff from the farmer for a better price, the farmer might even take the deal because farming isn't easy. But the store could never, ever do that. Why not? It's legal.
Because all distributors would stop working with him, and he would have a empty store. Distributors as a whole would be forced to stop working with the guy, because is damaging their business as a whole, even if he technically isn't breaking any laws or written agreements.
There's no law saying you have to be nice to the people who cook your food either, but I personally prefer my food spit-free, and it seems like a very small price to pay. |

Oh goodness! There are?!?!? Enlighten me about what you know about the produce business! Don't leave me in suspense!
... on second thought, don't bother. You don't know what you're talking about. My store buys directly from farmers all the time, we just didn't steal any of them from our distributors.
The short of it is CCP sold our goodwill for chump change, because we are just stupid console users. Before they did that they were my heroes, now I will do everything I can to draw attention to their bs.
They lied to us for months telling us that they were advancing the game, because they knew a handful would consider all this a betrayal and stop paying money. The really sad thing is, that I wouldn't have, if they had treated me with respect and let me know as soon as they made that decision, not milked me for more cash. Whatever money they earned from the Dust 514 players too smart or too stubborn to follow their trail of bullcrap to their next empty promise is not worth the respect they lost from me. Don't bother telling me that I'm wrong in that, I have lots of time left to prove it with my actions.
I was loyal fan for life, but I can hold my grudges even longer. |

Buster Friently wrote:your example, really has no merit relative to a microtransaction distributed over the internet with an accompanying T&C document How so? They misled their own customers for profit, and they should suffer as a company as a result. If console gamers weren't so apathetic about this stuff, they would challenge these actions so that they could get better products from developers.
I'm sure as hell not accepting this, if they get away with it, all gamers are gonna get from them are crap products and lies. I hope everybody who's already left this game for good carries this experience with them.
A scam that the law hasn't caught up with yet is still a scam. |

-The "ten year plan", yes, it was obviously bs, but when players misinterpreted the statement to mean "on this specific console" they conveniently forgot to correct them.
-Would they have stopped development on EVE without giving players advance notice? Technically not a deception on their part, but still there is nothing stopping them from doing so, but they wouldn't if they expected to sell crap games to these people ever again. Just highlighting how little respect they have for their console-only players. |
