The EVE players will completely fail at winning. They will likely try to get bots to play for them or something. Because even bots are better than capsuleers at playing Dust. |

The EVE Universe is complex, has a deep backstory, lore and the scale of things. I mean this only makes sense. There is no betraying... only reasons. Dust is still cool game, and to be honest, for a console, it is hell of a game. Quick and easy access doesn't mean lack of depth. That's just a logical fallacy and one of the subtler kinds of FUD that PC elitists love to smear. |

Joey - Drien wrote:You don't understand what I say, for any game to have a depth, there always has to be no limit on the technical side, to make it happen. Especially in the case of Dust or any CCP game. I understand fully well what you are saying. And it's flat-out wrong. Many of the most intricate mechanics are done on consoles. Just look at Platinum Game brawlers.
The systems are better for certain genres, but that has jack **** to do with depth. PC is superior for RTS titles, for example, but it has deep games like Starcraft and C&C Generals alongside shallow turds like Planetary Annihilation. Meanwhile, consoles have plenty of fighting games that aren't possible with keyboard/mouse due to input systems that require too many buttons to be used at once. Many of these games also have huge amounts of depth.
A good developer will be able to make a deep game in any environment (...as long as it isn't an ATARI or something). The only advantage that PC has here is a lack of quality control and a lower barrier to entry. The latter lends itself well to random overcomplicated projects, like E.Y.E. - Divine Cybermancy, which is a game that is insanely complicated but has ****-all in terms of depth. Meanwhile, you have Steel Battalion on the original Xbox. |

All in favor of whooping their asses telling them to go back to EVE? And they will instantly turn around when 1 guy that has 60 mil SP stomps there whole team into the ground. I would love a culture where Legion players actively try to harrass any EVE players that try to place foot on their turf. Imagine the hilarity of witch hunts whenever you are in a match or in the sandbox and find out that there's an EVE player running around with you. A whole match could come to a halt, with a message to everyone that there's an EVE player. Then everyone turns around and tries to murder the guy. |

All in favor of whooping their asses telling them to go back to EVE? I'm going to be making a posting about that later. That's why I liked that this wasn't on PC. We were the ground pounders, the console junkies. We were different from EVE players. Yeah, I liked the idea of living in a different world. The guys on the ground, where equipment is priced in such low ISK values that a capsuleer would laugh and equip an entire squad with pocket change. We'd be weak and in far higher numbers due to the simpler nature of being a dustbunny, but the capsuleers would grudgingly need to accept that we are necessary to have around. The peasants that can sabotage their masters if they turn out to be asses. The console/PC distinction just made this even better, especially because of the ******** master race meme. |

Joey - Drien wrote:Anyone can buy a PC today, it gets even cheaper than a console. Doesn't mean anyone is elitist. The same thing can be said basicly about console players. In the end nobody is elitist so chill. There are just reasons for Dust to be moved to PC, quite a bunch. Not just because they are already struggling with optimizing the performance as it is today. Another reason is for Dust to become part of the EVE Universe there has to be no limitations. There are many more reasons. Yes, there are reasons. "Depth" or "PC is superior" are not reasons. They are elitist statements with no foundation in reality.
And I'm a defender of Legion's move to PC.
Also, your point about a PC being "cheap" is completely ******* pointless. It's not a matter of price, it's a matter of priority. I can get myself a 500Gé¼ PC or I can invest money in an SSD for my old PC (Which will be perfectly adequate for anything besides possibly Legion, if it's optimized even half as bad as the PS3 version) or I can use that money for something entirely different. Don't tell people that "PC is cheap" as if that removed the barrier to entry. Some people need to use their money for more than just entertainment.
Note that I'm still putting off the next gen consoles. I'll likely get them in the second generation, with lowered price. Or maybe I will finally get myself a full Windows 8 tablet. |

medomai grey wrote:Except you won't have proto gear. You didn't watch the progression fanfest presentation did you? EVE: Legion will be designed around tiercide philosophy.
No, it won't. Basic, Advanced and Prototype have been replaced by common, uncommon and rare. The levels are still there, but the refer to the rarity during looting, which makes them more valuable. Each piece of equipment has a meta level. An example given was equipping a high meta gun (equivalent to proto) on a fit with deliberately gimped meta level, in order to have a more powerful weapon than everyone else in a match that doesn't allow for high-meta fits.
I'm starting to feel like I'm the only guy who watched all the keynotes while everyone else was sperging around and channeling second-hand hatred. I actually channeled hatred while multitasking.

All in favor of whooping their asses telling them to go back to EVE? dude, you can start an eve account and be killing eve players in 2 week. pc gamers are soft. Why would I pay money to kill EVE players? I don't want to be like them.
Also, most Dust protostompers are really ******* bad at the game. I constantly murder them with militia gear. The only thing that saves them is numerical advantage and vehicles. |

I remeber the goons very quickly changing tune to the imperfects when we red lined them in under 2 minutes This is one of the things I shall be looking at very closely as Legion progresses. One of the things I love about DUST is that the Goons can't win it. DUST is ultimately a 16vs16 affair, therefore quality is everything. In EVE, quantity is everything. That's why the Goons have won because for any fight that matters, with the enemy having x ships, the Goons will always bring x+n ships (with n being whatever number the Goons need to annihilate their opponents). If CCP keep Legion 16vs16, 32vs32 or even 64v64, we're alright and we'll have a fair crack at the whip. But if CCP make it so that a horde counts in anyway, that quantity triumphs quality, then we'll know that they're catering to the Goons and we might as well not bother playing because they'll already have won. But protostompers are exactly that. A horde of players (6 to 12 people in a 16v16 game) with infinite amounts of money, coordination via dedicated communication tools and lots of SP, but no skill whatsoever. They can lose 1on1 against militia gear with equivalent prototype loadouts. That's how much their quantity shines over quality. |
