Double thanks in advance when that answer is "Yes" Guys, I am looking in to some super cool things we can do with a Test Server. I spoke with CCP Rouge about it today and with some of the Ops guys.
Until we know exactly how much work will be involved I can't commit yet, but know that I am personally trying to make sure we make the most of having the easier access a PC platform will provide.

I'll try to organize some open interviews about this stuff once we're back in Shanghai. We're all scattered around the place at the moment but the intention is to get as much information to you guys as possible now that we've revealed Legion.

Then Saberwing, while you are here. Please for the love of god, with all the power you have.
That you push for legion having a full-release on PS4, I know it's easier to develop on PC and that's fine, but please please, when it comes to the day that Legion is ready for full-general release, give it to the console players too.
Don't leave us for Dust, because it feels like you are abondoning us.

As a lifetime console player and someone who does not like sitting at a desk to play videos games...for the best "DUST" to come to fruition, it needs to be done in an either/or manner, not both. So either all PS4 or all PC, not both. And at this point, it seems like PC has been the direction chosen.
Therefore, my argument is not to be on PS4 right away and focus on PC.

Honestly, this is where our heads at right now. At the moment PC is the focus, but it's also the "first step" towards a next-generation platform. We're absolutely not ruling it out but we have to make sure we really nail it on PC first.

Good, that's all I really wanted, I understand that PC is the best platform to develop on, I look forward to seeing it's progress and even being in the beta. But it doesn't help the feeling of abandonment that was conveyed at a FF.

No answer 4 me ((( I don't really understand the question mate, sorry :) I *think* he's asking if the game will still have a dropsuit fitting system. Might be related to the cries of "Battlefield progression!" because of the intended change to BPO dropsuits and unlock-based skill tree.
On that note, will the skill tree have any skill bonuses? I like it, but I still want some stuff to get better with skill progression. |

I think he's asking "to what degree do players have to choose the fit of their suits?"
Presumably because of the rationalisation of suit tiers and skills, there's the perception that Legion will devolve to the pre-made load outs common to other games (like PS2 and Tribes).
In my opinion, the fitting system is a core aspect of the Eve universe and provides a level of depth and replay ability that's a rare and precious thing.

Thank you, even that goes a long way. If that is indeed a functioning build I can't wait to get my hands on it. It looked amazing. I would ask that any form of private beta includes an invite to any dust player, past or present.
As for now I will continue to watch the forums.

Regarding dropsuit fittings, I honestly don't know enough but I will attempt to get CCP Z's thoughts on here. From what I gathered, the BPO "suits" that he mentioned are effectively cosmetic, therefore allowing us to have cosmetic things (yay!), but the fittings that go in to personalizing the performance of those suits will still allow you to create "customized fittings". I'll try to get more info from CCP Z over the next couple of weeks for you guys.

This has yet to be fleshed out totally though (understandably) so bear with me :) Regarding dropsuit fittings, I honestly don't know enough but I will attempt to get CCP Z's thoughts on here.
Good thank you Saberwing, thank you very much indeed!

I think THAT is the most important question right now. I believe the answer that has been given is that they do intend to to keep the promises of the sales by allowing your progression to continue from DUST to Legion, they are just unable to answer the specifics of "how" at this time.

I've seen huge strides in how things have been coming along over the last few months and I cannot wait to share more. What was shown on stage is an actual running build of the game. Would Dust players be able to already use their Dust chars during a beta?
I think this would be profitable for everyone. You could check how "powerful" former Dust-Mercs are in comparison to new players and Dust players would already see how their chars carried over.

I wanna know more specifics, of course their will be fittings of some kind. Bjt Im concerned about the statement that suit BPO's will in effect be cosmetic, what does that mean for racial gear, what's the difference between minmatar and amarr suits?
Is their reason to choose one over the other?

Guys, I'm starting to think that you haven't watched the presentation. The skill tree pretty clearly showed stat bonuses on its main branch, with the smaller branches having item unlocks. The end of the first major branch branches into racial specializations. This likely means that racials have racial profiles. Otherwise it doesn't make a lick of sense. You also get additional specializations at the end of a racial branch, like Caldari Assault Spec Ops. It would be exceedingly weird if those suits were only cosmetical in nature. No one at CCP would be insane enough for that, despite the disregard for sanity that they have shown at fanfest. |

yes, what was meant by suit BPO was that once you apply the skills to unlock a suit, you always have it. Everything else is consumable like it is now except for dropsuits...

Yes, once a suit is unlocked, it is yours. As for the racial stats that go with the suits, I would think those are attached to the skills that unlock those suits. So if you go down one path, you get the bonuses according to which BPO suit you are wearing that accommodates for the skill required to wear that particular BPO.
However, I wouldn't have minded if suits were actually looted or manufactured like ships and instead BPOs and BPC's were used to manufacture, not used to slot like an item/suit. I mean, ships aren't BPO's for good reason, player driven economy.... |

I think the point of the BPO system is the fact that dustbunnies don't have the ability to take off their suit, at least not from what has been shown. So instead you have your BPOs, which you will get comfortable with. Some of those BPOs will be your all-time favourites, which you can likely customize visually with Aurum items. The true merc experience of having completely unique suits that only get more unique the longer you play. At least that's how I interpret it.
By the way, I want a Dust veteran visual customization for Legion. Something like an image of a broken heart, with a 514 inside. |

Well i have a few questions; That suit in the eve legion trailer, you know the half face, half helmet, is that the new pilot suit?
With the looting in legion, will other modes/missions be created aswell? like assault a compound to retrieve BPO's, or assault compound and retreive the mining resources that are stationed there or assault the drone invested excavation sites for the rare relics, possibly including some actuall hacking, like in EVE. You know actuall complexes, where it's not 16 vs 16, but more like 16 vs a horde of drones or even less like 2-4 vs a horde.
What about the ammo styles, will those be more complex like in EVE, where it actually matters what your using or is it going to continue on the path it is now? Where it is dependant on the weapon, not ammo.
And in Legion, will we finally be able to go thrue vast buildings and city's, like in the very early days of dust or atleast is that one of it's goals?
Ow and one more, now that dust 514 will slowly die out over the next year or 2, can we finally know what it means? |

@CCP Saberwing:
I have several question(s) concerning the Legion's skill / progression system:
1. Will it still be similar to EVE's skill system, at least in the extent Dust's is? In short, will skills still be ranging from 1-5, with approximately exponential increase in skill point requirement while skilling up?
2. Will skills merely unlock higer tier equipment, or will they give inherent bonuses like most of them do now? I'm asking this since CCP Rouge mentioned that Legion will be more equipment oriented, rather than skill oriented.
3. From the initial information regarding Legion's skill system, it seems that it will lose even more similarity to EVE's skill system than Dust did. Is this departure from "New Eden character self-consistence" really a necessary move? I mean, although I perfectly understand that EVE and DUST (Legion) are completely different game genres, the idea of all characters sharing the same character development core principles is not only "cool", but also intuitive and even immersion-building.

That's the Valkyrie suit.

"Assault the drone-infested excavation site" is already confirmed via sandbox mode. In the sandbox, you go into a territory and search for loot. That's how items are spawned for the market. The sandbox territories have other players (Friendly fire is on, but Highsec territories cause Concorde to murder you if you attack someone) as well as drone infestations. It also sounded like they wanted to avoid artificial limitations on when and in how high numbers players can go into the sandbox, in contrast to contracts.
If you are a contract-only player (Basically like Dust currently is, except with matchmaking), all your gear will only exist because someone found it in sandbox mode and you bought it from them or a middleman.
Quote: What about the ammo styles, will those be more complex like in EVE, where it actually matters what your using or is it going to continue on the path it is now? Where it is dependant on the weapon, not ammo.
I personally hope that they remove damage profiles. They add nothing to the game. If there's special ammo, it should have other effects, like damage over time or tracer rounds, instead of ******** percentage changes to shield/armor damage that are completely pointless in a game where an engagement lasts for five seconds. Shield and armor should be functionally different and not because some weapons do more damage against them.
Quote: And in Legion, will we finally be able to go thrue vast buildings and city's, like in the very early days of dust or atleast is that one of it's goals?
Ow and one more, now that dust 514 will slowly die out over the next year or 2, can we finally know what it means?
Have you seen the presentation? I would be surprised if we didn't get larger maps.
Also, Dust was killed on the fifth month of the 14th year of this millenium.
Edit:
George Moros wrote:1. Will it still be similar to EVE's skill system, at least in the extent Dust's is? In short, will skills still be ranging from 1-5, with approximately exponential increase in skill point requirement while skilling up?
The presentation clearly stated that they wanted to remove the 1-5 system.
I really like the idea of the new system, but I would prefer it to keep some of the old stuff. Role progression is good, but I want auxilliary weapon skills (basically, 1 point unlocks that do stuff like add ammo) and the 1-5 system should at least exist for the main branch of the tree, with indirect bonuses that are tied to the BPO suit, like better weapon handling.
I'm starting to feel weird for answering those questions, considering that all my knowledge comes from the stuff that they officially released. |

I think THAT is the most important question right now. I believe the answer that has been given is that they do intend to to keep the promises of the sales by allowing your progression to continue from DUST to Legion, they are just unable to answer the specifics of "how" at this time. And while that's tangentially RELATED, it doesn't ACTUALLY ANSWER THE QUESTION I'M ASKING. So thanks, but an answer to MY QUESTION would be much appreciated. Garret... buddy... I've been a fan and supporter of your ideas here in the forums for almost 2 years now bud, and don't think I've ever seen you this close to "rage mode" before man. No joke, no trolls, you need a hug bro? *totally non-gay bro-hugz* Don't panic. It's not rage, it's emphasis. I've been spending a lot of time lately on some pretty low-tech forums, and there's no way to bold things like we get on here. I've gotten used to using all-caps again, so I'm just sticking to it because it's easier to hold shift for a few seconds than it is to find the bold button. Deal w/ it. EDIT: Also, you spelt my name wrong. Double "t", remember? Sorry bud, been drinking heavly. Major irl issues right now. I'll get it right next time I'm sobre. =)

Paired with the fact that CCP hasn't even apologised yet, not even a sorry.
I personally will apologize for the way a lot of this information was conveyed during the keynote. The intention was for the follow-up roundtables to also be aired out live, but apparently that did not happen. I will also say that I am incredibly excited for this game and it's vision. I've seen huge strides in how things have been coming along over the last few months and I cannot wait to share more. What was shown on stage is an actual running build of the game. That prototype really exists, and really runs. It's not vapour or word of mouth, and I've playtested it myself in Shanghai. :)
That actually made up for a lot, in my opinion, it's so nice to hear someone say "sorry", even if it's unofficial.
Thanks for posting and giving us more info, keep it up! I'm really starting to feel more positive towards Legion now. |

to bad about those suits, would have been nice if you could change your helmet to half open or fully closed.
What i meant with the complexes Sole Fenychs, I know they spoke about the sandbox mode, but to me it just sound like what we have now. A open map and you run around looking for something and that's it. What i mean is a very long long time ago, (don't know if it's still there), i was doing an archeology site/complex in EVE. And after scanning it, you started your hacking game and then when succesfull a small sound file played of troopers entering the complex, saying stuff like 'where opening the door', 'where under attack', 'taking out the sentries', etc and i always wondered what it would be like to be in a complex like that seeing alien or old architectural constructions around you, opening doors, fighting the sleeper drones, entering some sort of control room, retrieving the relic and then trying to make it to the dropship alive for retrieval.
Now that is what i'm looking for in my pve experience. I mean if they are going to do it, atleast do it right. The pve in legion is i suppose a start, but it could do with some improvement if that is all it is, running around like chickens looking for some loot.
And yes i have seen some of the presentations on youtube, so yes i've seen there making bigger maps. But lets face it, if it's going to pc, then i simply expect more, not less complexity in graphics. That's also meaning a more complex map build, like in actuall breakable/hackable doors and windows in buildings, houses, offices, with stuff in them. Not just an arena where nothing is there to make it easier for running. But i suppose where just going to have to wait and see. |
