(WALL OF TEXT WARNING! Still worth reading....)
Look at some of the replies in this thread. This is why guys like me are annoyed with most of the playerbase. We tried to help calm you guys down and make you see reason.... but every time someone wasn't sharing your rage and spewing the same hatebile, you accused us of one of the following: 1. Giving sexual favors to CCP employees (hint: when you give sexual favors, you're supposed to get something in return.... not give something else... your logic is fatally flawed.... not that I would expect high school kids to know anything about sex) 2. Being paid by CCP to say nice things (hint: internet "shills" don't actually exist. That's a made-up concept used by anti-vaxers and other conspiracy nutters in a desperate attempt to deflect a counter-argument based on truth and reason, that they may continue to cling to their delusions) 3. Being a member of the so-called "PC Master Race" (hint: there's really no such thing as a pure PC gamer... nearly all of us also have consoles and handhelds)
Here's a few helpful talking points to start you along:
-We're tired of hearing BS excuses like "I don't have/can't afford a PC".... I highly doubt this many people are typing out these multi-paragraph diatribes and following the forums for hours on end on a smartphone, unless the screen is a foot wide, and you're carrying around an auxiliary battery the size of a suitcase. I don't know who decided that console gamers have to hate PC gamers, but they lied to you.
-We're tired of the sigs and threads advertising how to go about getting an Aurum refund from Sony. You're screwing people over that may want to return to the game, later on. CCP *WILL* ban every character that had their AUR purchases refunded. You will not be able to migrate your account to Legion, should you choose to play that game once you see how awesome it will be. You will have to start all over, and that's if you're not IP banned, or banned by real name (tricky to pull off, but it can happen). Not only that, but Sony is keeping 25-50% of your money, anyway. It's a partial refund and Sony isn't giving you back their cut. PLUS there's the issue that most of you have already expended the items you bought with AUR.... so you have already used what you paid for, and you don't even deserve a refund.
-We're tired of watching you glaze over and refuse to read our replies when we're trying to interject some common sense into the discussion. And it's obvious when you don't read the whole post... cherry=pick a couple things here and there and take them out of context just so you can keep being angry. Sure, you might have a right to be upset, but this OUR community, too, and we don't want your crap, anymore. If you're going to quit, just quit. If not, shut the hell up and start engaging in discussion instead of flooding the forums with multi-page rants. Enough is e-f**king-nough.
-We're tired of logical and reasonable counterpoints being met with juvenile insults, name-calling and ethnic slurs. Keep that noise to yourself. Nobody cares if you have this unfounded idea that every EVE player is a 20-year-old overweight pizza face living in mom's basement and studying liberal arts at a community college. I'm engaged, have two daughters, own two cars and a house, am medically retired from the Army, and studying microbiology at UNLV. Most of you DUSTies are still barely hacking your way through No Child Left Behind and hoping your 'rents will co-sign for your student loans in a couple years, and that's okay..... all of us grownups were there, once. No need for hatespew because you're young. Stop it. That also brings me back to the "can't afford a PC" argument.... if you're working and still living with your parents, you prolly don't have to pay rent. I had a job at 16, and I bought myself all kinds of cool stuff because I had no expenses other than putting gas in my Datsun. We're freakin trying to help.
-We're tired of handing out constructive criticism only to hear you come back as though you were violently attacked. Being told you're wrong is not the end of the world. It just means that you're wrong. You will survive being wrong. I'm wrong a lot. Like that one time I didn't know President Bush was an idiot. I lived through that, and you will live through being wrong about a video game.
-We're tired of everyone acting like CCP is some kind of enemy. They are a corporation that employs people and provides a product. They have to pay their workers and still cut their customers' wallets as big a break as possible. That's not an easy task. Gods forbid they should make decisions that keep their corporation alive so they can keep supporting the games they develop, and feed their Icelandic families. I am going to let you know something about Iceland. They have a holiday where you barge into a complete stranger's house, and they feed you waffles. Any country that thinks that is a good idea for a national pasttime is probably really crappy at producing evil people. Evidenced by the fact that hardly anybody ever gets murdered in Iceland. Their police just had to shoot and kill someone for the first time since they officially became a modern country... and the officers who had to shoot the guy attended the funeral and grieved for the poor bastard right alongside the family. Show me where that happens in America.
Any more questions?

How does any of what you wrote make it ok to purposefully lie to the fan base? How does it make it ok to have SP events geared towards AURUM sales on a game you know is going to be shelved ina month? How does anything you wrote make it ok that we were promised 19 patches worth of Dust, 10 years worth of dust, laser focus on dust, just to be shelved 6 months later? How does anything you wrote make the fact that CCP hyped up Fanfest specifically for dusties, and even pushed for dusties to go to fanfest only to punched in the stomach, ok? It doesn't does it. By attempting to change the flow of conversation away from these HUGE issues, you come off as a coporate apologist doing CCP PR work for free. So stop QQ'ing about nobody giving a crap about what you are saying, because no one wants to hear it.
I am not excusing any of those things, and never have been. If you don't see the point I'm trying to make, let me spell it out in TL;DR format, in all caps so it's hard to miss:
THIS IS OUR COMMUNITY, TOO... NOT JUST YOURS. STOP F**KING IT UP. IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE, THEN LEAVE.

I will now answer your questions....
Mary Lilac wrote: How does any of what you wrote make it ok to purposefully lie to the fan base?
I don't think they lied, per se. Misled, yes. Maybe it was intentional, maybe it wasn't. I'm not a mindreader. But people make mistakes. Have you ever lied to someone you cared about? I'm betting yes. If they intentionally lied, then that's super not-cool, and I've expressed displeasure in CCP decisions in the past, as an EVE player. I don't see everything they do as being good and right. They're people. They make mistakes.
Quote:How does it make it ok to have SP events geared towards AURUM sales on a game you know is going to be shelved ina month?
It's not shelved, it's just being moved to another platform. And I can still log into DUST and play it. Same for everyone else. There has been no end date, as of yet, and CCP is still developing the game. Just because it's moving to PC and getting a new name doesn't mean it's gone.
Quote:How does anything you wrote make it ok that we were promised 19 patches worth of Dust, 10 years worth of dust, laser focus on dust, just to be shelved 6 months later?
(See previous answer) + your account and assets will migrate to Legion.
Quote:How does anything you wrote make the fact that CCP hyped up Fanfest specifically for dusties, and even pushed for dusties to go to fanfest only to punched in the stomach, ok?
I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that they thought most people would be ecstatic to hear the PC migration. PS3 is going to be abandoned before the end of 2015, by Sony. The network will shut down and you will no longer be able to play DUST on the PS3. It's going to happen. CCP was thinking about the playerbase when they made that decision. PS4 migration wasn't an option, so they went with the safe bet. And there is still no guarantee that Legion won't find its way over to the PS4 in the future. You're making assumptions.

There you go again accusing me of shilling. Internet shills don't actually exist. You should have read that in my megapost. It was up near the top. And I'm not "QQ'ing because nobody gives a crap about what I'm saying".... I'm telling you that if you're going to leave the game, then just. Freaking. LEAVE.

LOL, you are the one complaining about no one wanting to steer the conversation int the direction you deem fit. This community of yours if pissed, and you are just trying to white-knight for CCP. Stop it, the community has spoken, we will fill this forum with rage until we get the answers we seek. If you don't like it then go find some other community to be a part of.
Stop being CCPs white knight, they don't care about you as they have already proven. Stop trying to get us to change the subjest. Dust is dead, this is the only subject now.
Raging isn't getting you anywhere. The devs haven't been talking on the forums because they don't want to deal with all the juvenile drama. I don't blame them. Wait for the press releases and stop aggravating the crap out of the players who want to stay. Just pack up your stuff and go home.
And don't pull that "find some other community" BS.... you're the one who wants to leave. I'm just wondering why you're not gone already.
As you should have seen by now, I'm not "white knighting". If you'd known me from EVE, you'd know that I've been involved with CCP products from day 1 of EVE. I have always had something critical to say whenever CCP cockedup. The difference is, my criticism is constructive. Again, just because I'm not devolving into a neanderthal and screaming ragebile at everyone, doesn't mean I'm "white knighting".

I'm actually going to say that WoW has the worst playerbase. WoW players have a pretty dismal track record... IRL murdering eachother over ingame items... real-world physical assaults over things that happen in the game... players meeting eachother in the game, getting married IRL, having kids and then allowing them to become malnourished because they can't put down the mouse..... amongst many many other things.
Even the ragebile on these forums, the last three days doesn't come close to the verbal abuse you'll endure in just a couple hours hanging out with WoW players.

Gemini Cuspid wrote:
Actually I should clarify a few points from the Japanese newspapers and what we understand it to be.The end of support for the PS2 was 2012 and the end of support itself was the ceasing of production for the console. The 2015 mark for the PS3 is essentially when the hardware will no longer be in production anymore. Most PC gamers are assuming this as a "end-of-life" for the console when it's far different. And yes PS2 were continually sold well throughout it's decade long history strongly in Japan as well as the middle east and other parts of Asia. There were always game still made for the PS2 not available in the US, Europe and North America. Some of these PS2 games have found themselves in the PSN as downloads. Sony Japan has also clarified what 2015's mark means for the PS3; they intend to transition console production to the PS4 and shift away from the PS3.
I also don't mince words with "lie" and "misled"; saying you "misled" someone is sugarcoating a lie. Also the difference between lying to a loved one and a business is that business lies need to pay-off for the company; individuals lie to loved one for personal reasons, including financial. As a company CCP has an obligation to avoid PR mishaps that make it look foolish and further hurt the company.
There's also a few things I'd add in. Their financials are in a mess. They're still reeling over the cancellation of WoD. They also managed to really make the community more divisive over Dust and Legion. A decently minded public relations specialist would say "how about we not announce Legion just because it'll alienate people and we don't want to do that". Remember when Xbox One tried to offer features they thought it felt were "wanted" by console gamers? That didn't go well for them and people responded with their wallets and gave Sony a silver platter.
IF you want to say the playerbase are picky a@@holes; you're right we are. This might be a free game but a lot of us likes to see it succeed. The thing a lot of PC gamers and white-knighters are missing is that Legion is in the future, Dust514 is now. They've somehow managed to damage both games just to have something to say at Fanfest.
As I posted well before, players would've responded better to a Dust reboot, a Dust 2.0 or to have the game issues addressed and if Dust manages to come back a year later and say "hey we fixed tons of stuff" and the players overall agree with that assessment then the players would arrive at the conclusion that they learned a lot from Dust and how a firm grounding on how to create Legion. This is the problem with Legion: you could've avoided the issue from the get-go and come out stronger for it by being patient but CCP didn't. They instead committed corporate hara~kiri and made drama when it could've been avoided 100%.
And the proof of all that I am saying is that we're still debating this issue...
This is actually a well-formulated argument. I wish everyone else was expressing their displeasure in this kind of format.
I feel like the whole lying part is a semantic argument, so let's just agree to disagree on that one.
If I was wrong about the 2015 "end date", so be it. I'm not a Sony guy. I only have a PS3 because my girlfriend brought it with her when she moved in. When it comes to consoles, I'm normally an XBox and handheld gamer. Still primarily a PC gamer, but whatevs. That's beside the point.
Look.... I get that the way they announced it was bollocks. I agree with you in that. But you have to at least try to look at it from their point of view. My CEO is a big time DUSTie as well as a long-time EVE player (he hasn't been in EVE as long as I have, but he's still been there for a long time), and he's said a number of times "I'd rather hear it now than hear it a year from now when it's about to actually happen". They tried to come up with a way to give everyone time to prepare, and they did it the wrong way.
As for Legion itself.... you can't tell me you honestly expected DUST to stay on the PS3 for 10 years. I doubt Sony will hang onto the network on that console for very much longer.

You fail to take into account that many of us who have developed a hatred for CCP are still planning to take part in the Legion project. I personally have no problems with splits and factions amongst the remaining playerbase - the drama is quite amusing.
I don't find it amusing... I find it damaging.
Quote:Ironically, the s***** way we've been treated by CCP has given me a renewed purpose when it comes to this game and its successor. You claim to be a great EVE player, so presumably you're familiar with James 315 and his fellow cultists of CODE - a bunch of griefers and extorters who exist for no other reason than to spoil the gameplay of others.
Quite familiar with the honorable agents of the New Order. James 315 is doing good work. They are not extorting or griefing. They're attempting to push the toxic players out of EVE by damaging their in-game experience. I always have and always will support that kind of emergent playstyle.
Quote:Well, that's what I'm planning for Legion. I'm going to it all legal and above-board, but my playstyle in Legion will be all about exploiting the mechanics to s*** in the sandbox and ruin the game for everyone else.
And you, Mr CCP-Lover are going right near the top of my griefing list.
Good for you. Forgetting what alliance I'm in? Read up on us and what we do, and you might understand a thing or two about how affected I will be by your brand of "griefing". It's just a game. I can turn it off and walk away any time and it doesn't come to the real world with me. Sorry to bust your bubble, but at the end of the day, the only in-game people that matter to me in real life are my alliancemates that I actually talk to when not plugged into the game.
But you're still welcome to try. PvP is fun.... win or lose. It's kind of hard to grief people who have the ability to separate reality from fantasy.
Quote:This community belongs to both of us, and you need to understand that there is a CCP-Hater vs a CCP-Lover narrative going down. If you can't deal with that, you can leave.
That doesn't mean you and all these other emoragers get to turn the forums into a completely toxic environment contaminated with filthy language, juvenile rants, and complete and outright BS, thereby driving what little community is left away. That is incredibly selfish of you all, and I'm going to keep calling you lot on it, whenever I feel the need to.

This is exactly why we keep having this pointless rift. PC gamers have plenty of viable ammunition to use as insults against console gamers.
But both sides of that worthless debate are stupid. Most gamers are cross-platform. Deal with it.

Now, during an entire presentation about red cars and off-roading they state 'buy the blue car if you want to go off-roading; we will continue to develop for red car but in a diminished capacity.' This shows a lack of respect from CCP." What is the argument for our overreaction? How is the above statement fundamentally flawed?
It's fundamentally flawed because you have been "going offroading" for almost two years, and you will still be able to continue doing so until whenever the end date is.... which hasn't been announced yet.
CCP did not shut the lights off, tell everyone to go home, and bar the doors. The club is still open, and it's still hoppin. That raven girl in the corner totally wants you to get out on the dance floor. Go grab your rail rifle and get to twerking, mate.
