Logibro's comments in some of the other threads about how exactly Legion has come about are rather revealing. Unlike Valkyrie, which initially was a Dev side/spare time project, Legion has actually thus far been created as a main project using the production resources slated for supporting and developing DUST. Without actually having the internal authority ("the green light") to do so. Which would mean since October basically, support resources allocated by CCP executives to follow through on the commitments made to Sony regarding product development were usurped at that development level to design and create a product which would NOT go to Sony or the Sony customer base. This explains not only why all FanFest runup materials term items and events as being DUST 514 instead of Mystery Legion or something else AND explains why we, here on the ground in DUST 514 have been living in crazy-bug-imbalance-see-saw-ville for months with very little done to address it. The devs groups have been working on Legion when they were supposed to have working on DUST. Marketing doesn't know, accounting doesn't know, Hilmar probably didn't know. And we sure as **** didn't know.
Now the legal part of this is where it could get real interesting. CCP of course has every right to create what they want, for who they want. UNLESS they are in a contract where doing so is a conflict. Sony has the Exclusive Distribution rights to DUST514, and it sounds like maybe Valkyrie too. Production rights, duplication rights and distribution rights are all different aspects of total copyright. Selling or leasing them is where the $$ is in creative property. And the case law is long and well established regarding conflicts of interest. Depending on how the terms are written, CCP's development cabal may have just exposed CCP to serious legal action from SONY since what's coming out is that the resources obligated to be available to support the product SONY has been distributing instead were used to develop a COMPETING PRODUCT, thus hampering Sony's ability to be profitable in distributing, since they've been basically given a willfully and knowingly defective product to distribute in the first place. If it turns out that what I'm seeing is even remotely close to the truth, there may be some heads rolling at CCP real soon. Sony has a looooong history in media distribution, especially in their BMG side. A cease and desist order for something like this is probably a mad-lib form just waiting to be signed and dated. There's NO doubt in my mind that ALL charge-backs happening ultimately will come out of CCPs pocket, and very little doubt that if Sony feels slighted or shortchanged in this in ANY way it WILL not only affect the future distribution prospects of Legion but Valkyrie too. CCP will be in a position to create the greatest video games the world has ever seen and SONY will be in a position to guarantee NOBODY EVER sees them.
TL;DR CCPs cutting off the nose to spite the face may get the neck broken.
Do you really think they worked on Legion without Hilmar's approval?

Your Dust514 account is stored in CCPs databases along with your PSN ID. CCPs infrastructure is interfaced with PSStore via this ID. That's it. So all your account data, virtual goods and achievements are already with CCP, always were. What would Sony object to? Smoke & Mirrors.
However there must be authentication (aka federated login) between PSN and DUST. We login with a PSN account. 99% guaranteed CCP cannot authenticate our logins themselves. I'm not sure how CCP would be able to confirm which players own which accounts without either a one-time process between themselves and Sony, or a manual process where *we* log in to each account we own, and click some button that transfers authentication details to CCP.
Regardless of legal contracts, I think Sony would have to agree to take part in a migration. Otherwise how the hell do I claim my mercs from the thousands of others that CCP have stored. To just tell them my PSN email address(es) would be insecure and open to abuse. I dunno, just throwing it out there.

I for one hope that wasn't the case, if it was then the scenario I described becomes even more likely with SONY pursuing enforcement even more aggressively. Nobody likes getting ripped off, especially billion dollar multinational companies. And before people start flaming about there never having been ANY legal agreement before between CCP and SONY I ask, How exactly then do you think DUST was made a PS3 exclusive in the first place?

I'd assumed, in light of the link I posted in the post above yours, that CCP are perfectly able to make the statement themselves (that it's exclusive on PS3) and it doesn't have to be Sony that say it. After all, CCP made a decision to not develop it for any other platform.
Don't need to sign anything for that to be true...only thing CCP might need is Sony's permission to say it, but I don't see why there needs to be something legally binding between the two that says it's a deal that lasts forever.
Maybe 5-1-4 is the number of days that any exclusivity agreement lasts for. That's about 18 months I think. Perhaps it's the most elaborate troll in CCP's history lol.

Sony is a master litigant. CCP's announcement was unwise, in that sense, and I see it coming to bite them in the ass.
However, Legion's structure will be so different that a generic move of Dust assests would be the most likely outcome. Something like a 10,000,000 SP startup for all who convert from Dust. Maybe a special BPO skin? If you think you're going to fire up Legion with 50,000,000+ SP, you are optimistically mistaken.

Well we already know CCP will say whatever they want regardless of its factual basis. SONY wouldn't advertise a game as an "exclusive" though without holding the distro license. Again, this is SONY, the biggest media distributor in the world, they don't finalize a deal on just a handshake. Whether a license was granted for 18 months or 10+ years neither you nor I can know, not without our lawyers reading the deal. My point really is just that the way the decision-making has been described inside CCP it sounds like if they wanted to, SONY may be empowered enough to stymie any timely release date for ANY FPS set in EVE.
