Legion- !st person shooter for pc that similiar to dust.
This is their attempt to really do what they had planned for dust but couldnt
Plans-They will keep dust actrive but in the spare of their time they will work on legion as a seperate game and if they continue with it, they will keep both of them up and running.
they do intend to bring all of these games together -eve valkyrie -eve online -eve legion -eve dust 514
Simply put they want a dust 514 on PC along with ps3. that and they want to broaden their horizon and the worlds horizon on gaming and connecting thru multiple games.
In retro spec, they are noble in their cause for wanting legion and they will not be shuitting down dust 514.
Hopefully CCp will sticky this for people to see cause no one really explained their intentions

Dust 514 will only last as long as Sony supports the PS3, and as long as the playerbase is large enough.
Once 2016 comes, or once the playerbase falls to unsatisfactory levels, Dust 514 will be shut down.
The End. Dust 514 is over. EVE: Legion is it's reincarnation.

The name is just a name for the prototype. Before they came up with that name it was just another client running on a server called "Dust PC".
The game hasn't yet been "green lit" by Hilmar, and even if it is, it might not even be what they showed us by the time it's done. This is all very early and everything is still up in the air.
They always said Dust would outlive the PS3, but the issue is that when they said that, we thought they were referring to a migration to PS4 and not changing platforms with the game and thereby leaving a lot of us who dedicated our time to the game behind.
I know they said character progress will transfer, but not everyone who has a console has a PC that can handle gaming, and many of them don't want to game on PC.

Pretty much. The PS3 market was already dying as soon as the PS4 came out. In just 2 years from now, the PS3 will become just like the N64, Dreamcast, Sega Genesis, original Xbox, and the PS1+2. Outmoded pieces of equipment left behind by the very market forces that made them famous in the first place.
This is why the PC is preferable because a single PC can endure practically for as long as 10 years before ever needing to upgrade a single component. Of course, a gaming PC rig can cost up to $1,000 but that $1,000 rig can last you almost 10 years due to the way how PC games are developed. A console usually lasts up to 5 years on average and can cost as much as $500 every time a next gen console comes out.
And I don't know if you noticed, but console prices fluctuate like crazy. Just take a look at this article posted by Kotaku.

Yea i know, but the whole ordeal is that they know they screwed up when making dust and they want to fix it but only by making pc version of it.
BS i know but still i would want to make the correct version of it if i could. So we cant blame them.
Either way yes, dust will live on either ps3 or PC but sill...b y the time the pc version is green lit (btw saw ur post about it) then dust 514 will practically be unknown to many but maybe this will be good on the part that pc is more sandbox than ps3 any day
Simply put, they were doomed from the start ooo making dust 514 when they decided to make it for ps3 knowing that ps4 would be out and sony would junk the ps3

Actually we all knew from the start that Dust will eventually end up on the PC as well.

CCP wants all that stuff integrated on one platform.
CCP also wants to charge a subscription fee for all those versions of EVE.

CCP are concerned about the future of Eve with star citizen on the way so Valkyrie and Legion are basically Eve minigames - value added to help retain the interest of their existing playerbase and retain money in their bank accounts |

Honestly I dont think they are stupid enought to charge a fee for a game that was free-to-play in the first place.
If they do then they are definitley money hors

Changing to the PS4 would be changing platforms as well. Migration to PS4 or PC would be classified as changing platforms. In either case you would have to have or acquire a different machine than the PS3 to continue playing. |

When they started on Dust 5 years ago though the PS3 was in its prime... they just took too long to ship a playable game and by that point the PS3 was nearing obsoletion.
Yet another reason why the PC seems the more sensable choice. If it takes 2 years to make Legion on the PS4 it will be about 2-3 years from the PS5 release :/ (assuming a 5-6 year console lifecycle, considering how underpowered the PS4 is relative to modern PC gaming compared to the PS3 in 2006). |

The oddity of these arguments assume features that grow with the PC when that isn't the case. Game obsoletion itself isn't tied into the "prime of console" during market activity. For MMO's this has been the endless debate of "what will topple WoW" for example. Even when games continued to be released on superior graphics and mechanics, they failed to readily establish the marklet presence WoW cut itself.
Likewise, even with a PS3 not in market prime with the PS4 really being the new coming feature, end of support is really the overall period where production ceases and game titles from major manufacturers won't be providing cross-platform/multi-platform support. The irony of all this is that PC supporters of Legion typically miss one of the vocal points made by those unwilling to support Legion: the graphics could even be less fantastic if only bug fixes and base mechanics in the game were nominally addressed and fixed. This also imparts the coding and programming area where having more content to work with due to a more advanced feature subset makes it harder in theory to dish out updates which is why it made little sense to work on Legion and rely on UE3 as waiting until a viable plan to working Legion on UE4 would have also meant faster updates and easier development overall.
That's in some respects why PS3 players, myself included, aren't buying the argument of "a PC being powerful = a better game"; WoW is HORRIBLE in graphics capability but if you look at an mmo on one of the most important criteria, subs, then it's still vastly superior to many titles out there despite its significant graphics.
The ability to keep, maintain and grow an audience is how EvE really first developed itself and why players supported its growth to this day. This is *NOT* what you see in Dust514. And yes, times change and they may have failed to capture enough of the market but players responded with tremendous feedback on why and Legion really hasn't shown itself it's ability to evade the significant problems you see in Dust. If skill and ISK transfer over, you're still at a position where you're limiting new player acceptance in the game.
This isn't an argument about PC vs. PS3 it's really an argument where what we think is common sense isn't. For PC gamers it's like old PC parts, that stick of RAM several years ago might cost as much as current ones just because it isn't in wide circulation and support anymore. Better yet old mechanical keyboard; some of them do cost more than your standard logitech keyboard. Common sense dictated older tech should be cheaper where the reality of it is that it isn't and that's really the point that PC gamers need to evaluate and look at hard.
Starting Dust on the PS3 isn't what failed CCP its really how they approached Dust514 that did much of the damage. |

Eloquent, relevant, but slightly off.
CCP tried the impossible on a console. They set out to make a meaningful, serious, "gritty" (as they initially put it) FPS. You really cannot physically do any of those on a console, without some serious tongue-in-cheek moments.
You want a serious, consequential FPS? Can't have aim assist. Can't do it. It also cannot be a side strafing hip-shooter. Yet, this is what they have morphed Dust in to. At some point, several months ago, they took a step back, looked at the product and said, "This......is NOT what we had in mind." And now, here we are. |
