Legion looks more realized than Dust. I just hope that CCP pushes their vision more instead of letting the community guide the ship. We need that HTFU mantra of old

Dude, seriously, I'm tired of arguing the finer points of bait and switch and why I simply don't want to play games on a PC, regardless of cost or how awesome you think it is, but honestly, the one argument idiots like the OP need to drop is the "Dust wasn't going to be on PS3 for 10 years anyway, derp."
Mind blown! Man that is some insightful sh!t right there. I had no idea they would not keep developing for the PS3 by the time the PS5 comes out! Statements like that make people with half a brain do this  and ignore everything else you say.
The natural life cycle of the vast majority of console games is to migrate to the new generation when it arrives. It's unquestionably stupid to say that Dust moving to the PS4 in the near future is not a logical expectation for us to have had.

First, yeah, PS4 or PC, and PC makes more sense, I am also pretty chill about the whole thing, but people were upset because of these reasons, (mainly point 1 and point 2 are what bugged me most on a moral level)
1) hosting major aurum events / Booster sales right before being notified that Dust 514 was to be thrown into the dark. Essentially if there are no transfers, then it was a money grab. Dust as it stands doesn't need a whole lot of investment at 20 mill you pretty set, so chances this info was withheld so people would over invest due to the assumption of a longer road map (AKA deception)
2) Informing Dust players via fanfest, and highly advertise participation to dust players to pay $20 for viewing or attend fanfest when the obvious issues that would arise with such news, especially with the complete lack of info given. I mean all that was obtained from fanfest was that "dust is dead, Legion is the future". (Ignorant or worst don't care)
3) Dust was very much a grindfest along with an economical meta game, which is fine, but that generally attracts those who value what they have earned and the time invested, so the idea of losing it all would be scary for a few. (starting over or having no recognition for the intellectual help and beta testing we provided via dust)
4) Least important but console only players obviously don't pc for whatever reason feel cut off now. (self explanatory)

It was reasonable to expect it would transition to the PS4 but not guaranteed. They had a choice between PS4 and PC and they decided on PC. A lot of that has to do with how CCP develops their products.
For example, PC allows for a test server while PS4 does not. PC also allows for rapid iteration on their products, where PS4 requires validation from Sony. During the first year of Legions release I suspect they will be fixing tons of ****, essentially the PC players will be beta testing the product, just like we did for Dust 514 here on the PS3.
Once the experience is polished up a bit and there is no longer a need for constant bug fixes and content iteration, a transition to the PS4 is very viable and likely. Its just that, on the PC, they can make these changes MUCH easier... meaning at the end of the first and second year of legion's release we will have a much more polished product than if it was on the PS4.
What it comes down to is that going PC first into PS4 results in a much stronger product after 2 years than going straight into PS4. Short term it sucks for console players but long term its the better decision. If CCP is anything they are a company that makes decisions based on longer term goals.

I already had the PS3 to begin with. I didn't own it just for Dust as I also had plenty of other games to go into like MSG and FFX/X-2.

Some of you guys are sooooo but hurt, look, we're still getting what we all wanted. Maybe they didn't go about telling us the right way. But we are still getting what they promised. Unfortunately not on the original platform that they intended for. They finally realized as I did way back when they first announced Dust514 that the hardware would be the biggest limitation to creating the vision they wanted for us.
WE ARE STILL GETTING THE DUST514 we wanted, just on the PC to start, then I got the hint that the PS4 to follow. The PS3 is just outdated and too limited for what they wanted.
Chin up guys, even though it has a different name, the beautiful babe that Dust should've been will be Legion, I'll go play her once launched. |
