CCP Rouge wrote: 1) What happens to my character, skills and stuff?
If Project Legion becomes something more than a prototype, we will not leave our DUST 514 players behind. You would be able to bring your character name, applicable skills/inventory, and other elements of progression with you. We are still working on the details and we will have more to announce soon.
Except it was clearly stated that Legion abilities are directly related to getting better gear. Which will be acquired by the more traditional EVE point and click to find the Salvage. To either release or destroy the Salvage Bots; That part was unclear. However, the first means you will not support SP. One of the very items you must be trying to do is negate the advantages the vets over New Berries.
Quote:2) Are you completely abandoning DUST dev?
No. Without promising too much, we are actively working on stuff like balancing, Planetary Conquest, matchmaking, the in-game economy, and more. And of course we continue to work with the CPM to identify ways to improve the game. Every resource you put on Legion Ganks Dust. And half of your Dust team in CCP/Shanghai has been working on this, not Dust. And not fixing bugs in Dust. Which you think they would because the bugs in Dust are Legion.
Quote:3) Is Project Legion going to have a PS4 version? Or something for consoles?
It is still far too early to discuss platform expansion, as like you saw we are still only working on the PC prototype at this time. But the PC architecture gives us the opportunity to grow once we have a great PC product at hand. For now, though, PlayStation 4 is not something we are working on. Consider you aren't even sure that Legion is a viable game that is actually a truthful answer.
Quote:4) When are you going to give us more concrete information on Legion?
Again, Project Legion is still in an early stage of development but the whole idea behind giving a sneak peek at Fanfest is to get early feedback - and I really want to keep this discussion going, show you progress through dev blogs and such and listen to what you have to say. SOON( BS ); SOON( vaporware ); SOON( HTFU ). Aka typical EVE answers.
Quote:Please post your feedback and questions in this thread - and let's keep this conversation going. The team and I will be reading this thread, and I will respond as soon as I can.
CCP Rouge If you ever respond that will be an improvement. Although your response will be biased by the HTFU videos ringing in the halls of CCP.
You got my money. You will not get anymore. Fool me once and all that, don't cha know?
And I haven't seen information about a replacement product handled worse, except the last Osborne computer. All it did was kill the company. This one will kill Dust, with luck it will kill Legion as well.
At least your EVE players are enjoying how much you have Ganked us. They are so sweet in the Locals poison wouldn't melt in their mouths. Its a shame they are flying so high in their Pods. Because Ganking EVE players would be the very best therapy right about now.
Another day, another Shiv, welcome to New Eden.
And so it goes.

Panther Alpha wrote:This means Dust 514 is FINALLY coming to PC ? About kitten time !!! Best news i heard all year... Dust 514 is no longer being developed for anything beyond game balance. No client work (aka Dust 514 on PS3) is planned at this time.
The as yet unfunded Project Legion is a prototype of a PC game being developed by CCP/Shanghai that is using the assets, code and developers from Dust 514. It will have many of the things promised to Dust 514 but never delivered, PVE being one. However, there is no guarantee that Project Legion will ever be more than a prototype.
No decisions on any console would make sense until they decided to first make the game. Then they would have to decide how they were going to include (or not) the console player base. Most of CCP customers are PC players and they were very happy at the change.
So, where did you hear that this has changed? I search but found nothing from CCP that says anything about Project Legion or Dust 514 has changed status. Basically they are at the same place as they were after fan fest when CCP let us know they were done using us.
And so it goes.

Panther Alpha wrote:They won't announce something like this if it is just an experiment ...In my experience when companies announce that they working on something if to see people reactions to it, and decide if they going to go farther with it. They have a positive reaction from fans and critics... so i believe it won't be a prototype for long, but we should see. However, you need to consider that this is CCP. They had just got slapped upside the head by their investors for piddling away ~$21M US on the Atlanta development team and the vampire vaporware that never shipped.
They had to announce something or the investors would demand that CCP/Shanghai be shutdown if there was no reason for them to do anything as Dust 514 was done. So, they announced a prototype of a possible game called Project Legion (PL) and have repeated stated that there is absolutely no guarantee that it will ever be anything more than that.
Why would CCP do this? Because EVR (Valkyrie VR on Oculus Rift) is a space combat that they showed off as a prototype. It got rave reviews, they boasted that it was just a proof of concept with a small team (now up to 25 devs). This gives them room to move in relationship to their nervous investors. Recall that CCP has only had one success, EVE Online. And they screwed the pooch on that more than just the $70 monocle. But they recovered! If they never release EVR then they have an easy out, just a prototype. Market changed too quickly, whatever.
So, CCP calls PL a Prototype as well, limit it to the PC where they already have a fan base and if it looks feasible then they look like the geniuses only they believe they are and the investors don't demand their heads.
There is no real expectation that Project Legion will be any good. It is based on Dust 514 that CCP themselves was a major disappointment to them and the fans. It drove a wedge into their fan base (bad idea by anybody) and now they can consolidate back to the one platform they understand - the PC. Which can demand as much RAM and GPU power as necessary without the very cost specific limitations that consoles are driven by.
So, Dust 514 is in a holding pattern. If they can keep enough new players filtering in and buying AUR to cover expenses as the more experience (and bored or disappointed) players leave to other games that work and are actually growing then, hey why not? It is nothing more than a few devs CCP Rattiti, CCP Logibro and the janitor (who is a contractor no doubt). Plus it runs on their existing server solution.
Project Legion will have to demonstrate a real potential to get the green light. The saving grace is they refuse to upgrade their Unreal Engine license so that cost is $0 and Shanghai is inexpensive compared to almost anywhere else. But, make no mistake - CCP will never leave their PC fan base again, beside EVR and that will most likely wind up on PC as well as Sony has other companies (real game companies) planning on using the Sony VR system. At least one of which will probably beat CCP to market on the console as their network won't be based on EVE Online.
No PS3 improvement. No PS4, Xboner or WiiU in the future. There is a small chance that PL will show up on PC with a significant PVE component so players aren't stuck with only having to play with the useless drek of Blue Belles. Many EVE Online players are solo players and to keep them happy PL will have to enable that behavior as well. Not every player likes getting ganked by CCP and their standard players. In fact, a single player Dust 514 would probably allow many to continue playing as it is today (except that will require some code on the PS3 side or some tricks on the server).
Past that, no I haven't thought about it much. The truth is that analysis was done in June, after fan fest.
And so it goes.

Jin no kami wrote:I just read ccp let go 49 more ppl from their Icelandic office so they losing more money than expected dust514 might have just a skeleton crew watching this game just saying =ƒÖê=ƒÖë=ƒÖè=ƒÖî=ƒÖïG£î There is only one actual developer on Dust 514 now, CCP Rattiti. He is the only one changing the few things that can be changed currently. Except for the sniper scope reticule the changes are limited to tweaking the numbers on their database (think, excel spreadsheet) on the server and then synching that with the PS3s (which is what happens when the synching graphic shows up).
Dust 514 will never have more than the skeleton crew it has had since before fan fest, truth be suspected.
And so it goes.

No Dev jump prompt? No dev response.
