I've tried to make this super clear - we will do whatever we can to transfer over your investment in DUST. That means names, skills, items, etc - where possible. The only reason I say where possible is because progression, skills and items are being looked at and there's no guarantee that they will be in Legion. In that case, we would do our best to find some other way of protecting that investment. I realize that one or two Devs may not have all the answers to such uncomfortable (but valid) questions, but please stop trying to dance around the issue, it only makes you look bad. |

Vargralor wrote:Why are you buying anything in F2P game at all? Do you think it is an investment for some time down the track when the game will be better? Do you enjoy the game now? Do the Aurum item/boosters you buy make the game more fun for you in the short term?
If you enjoy the game, play it. Plenty of other people still are and CCP has said it plans to keep it going in the near future. Legion will be a a minimum a couple of years away from a release. Any company that guarantees their game will still be around more than a couple of years in advance are lying to you. There are no guarantees in this industry. If you think Aurum items and the extra SP from boosters will be fun for the next year or so then buy them.
There are plenty of posts around the forums that Dust is dead. Why? They have not announced it is shutting down. They have announced that the features that people have been daydreaming about for the last year or so will not be added. So what? If you do not enjoy this game and only play it because of some promised future feature that is no longer coming then you're an idiot. Play the game if you enjoy it and leave if you do not. There is still over 4000 players at peak each day on the server having fun. At most there are a couple of hundred people posting about how Dust is ending and how horrible it is that CCP is not giving them a whole host of features that would never work in the current game anyway. All the angry posting and whining going on here is as usual a vocal minority of at most 5% of the player base.
Anyone with half a brain can understand why most of the features mentioned for Legion will never work in Dust without virtually restarting it. The thing is CCP did make that promise, and those features people were 'daydreaming' about were things CCP again promised were coming to the game.

But when they looked in detail at those things they saw that it would require a fundamental rewrite of the underlying structure and motivations of the game. People throw around terms like Player Market and Player Driven Economy without understanding how they are fundamentally different. A Player Market is little more that a frontend to allow players to trade items they already have and at least one Dev post since Fanfest has mentioned that they still plan to deliver this for Dust. A Player Driven Economy is not something you can simply patch into what is essentially a Lobby Shooter. You need to have an underlying mechanism for harvesting and/or manufacturing along with sufficient motivation to do so. Engaging in PVE as a valid and rewarding alternative to PVP needs again a sufficient reason to do so alogn with balanced risks and rewards. Whilst you could tack these things onto the current gamemodes of Dust it could never be properly integrated with the sandbox style economy of EVE which was the overall goal. The Dust economy needed the underlying sandbox structure along the ability for PVP focused individuals to come along and ruin your day. Otherwise it would create an imbalance in the EVE economy due to the risk/reward imbalance which must be viewed on a significant scale to understand the effects across such a large game structure. Turning a lobby shooter like Dust into a sandbox style interaction environment means essentially starting again. Given that, CCP made the right call and said "OK. Instead of continuing bandaid fixes that we know won't work, let's start again from the ground up.". The problem isn't that they couldn't make good on their promises (we've all had big plans fall to the ground), it's that they encouraged people to spend money on a project that's endgame had changed months ago without telling their customers.
